In the preface to World of Thedas, Mike Laidlaw, suggested that among the lore, particularly the narrative sidebars, might be a few hints about the future of Dragon Age. One that immediately springs to mind is the double page picture of the Deep Roads with a tall godlike figure in the background, clearly foreshadowing what we discover about Mythal in Trespasser.
In view of the fact that it seems likely the next instalment will be in northern Thedas and feature the conflict between Tevinter and the Qun, I am particularly drawn to the entry Battleground State about the island of Seheron. We were introduced to the Fog Warriors by Fenris in DA2 and this entry expands on both them and other folklore of the natives of the islands. It has the line "They tell us of the ancient Curse of Nahar that brought the fog, and the promise that will one day life it". So could this be a major plotline?
The fact that Dorian returns to Tevinter and is made a Magister regardless of his status with the Inquisitor suggests that we will definitely be seeing him again, probably as an advisor figure. However, one of the things he particularly wanted to do was track down his father's killers. He also stated that they were likely also people who were against his reforms, so removing them would be killing two birds with one stone. So could be investigating the murder of Halward be a major plotline?
Calpernia is never seen dead and her end is ambiguous both in game and in WoT2. If you do Hushed Whispers you never even meet her. However, as a former slave who still cares about her fellow slaves but made a serious misjudgement in taking up with Corypheus, she is an interesting character. Her fate is addressed in the form of a question, the answer to which will likely be given in the future. So will she return simply as part of a plot or as a companion?
Tallis is like Marmite, you either love her or you hate her. I was never enamoured with her in Mark of the Assassin but I know there are those who were. She has a considerable entry in WoT2 for such a small story contribution, which makes me suspect we will see her again, particularly as at the end it states that there are rumblings she has been part of Ben-Hassrath activity in Minrathous and how she could easily blend in with the elven underclass of the capital, considering she was once herself a slave. My heart sinks at the thought of her being a companion, even more at the idea she might be the elven romance option, but she could equally be an antagonist considering she is still an agent of the Qun. So will Tallis be part of a future plotline?
The point of this post is not to speculate on the basis of what I would like to see in future games but the "clues" that I think are to be found as to what future plots might be. Are there any more hints that you have found in the source books as to possible plots in the future?

Eleni Zinovia (DA:O): - She had strong ties to Tevinter and her statue had disappeared from the Ferelden Tower. DG once mentioned we would see her again.
Nexus Golem (DA2): "The Stone lives beneath Orlais. Mathas gar na fornen pa salroka atrast." "We were once more than we are." "The Gauntlet is passed. Only a Shaperate can bring the light. Conversion begins..."
- Now we know it was referencing Descent. "Conversion begins..." caught my eye though - maybe we'll see more dwarves gaining power like Valta?
Great Dragons (Silent Grove): Their existence is teased by Yavanna in the comic, but we haven't seen them in-game yet. Their blood confers a lot of power and has ties to the Qunari, Calenhad and Aurelian Titus.
I would not be surprised if we see Calpernia again (I hope we do actually), but I don't expect we'll see Tallis again (she was too polarizing).

Kieran (DAI): - He drops a lot of hints as well...
Kieran: You’re the inquisitor. I thought you’d be scarier. Mother said you were scary. Inquisitor: Why would your mother say such a thing? Kieran: Because people fear the next age if it comes too soon.
Inquisitor: Who is your mother? Kieran: Mother is the inheritor, she who awaits the next age.
- So we have a couple of references already to a "Next Age" and Morrigan as "The Inheritor" (of Flemeth's power).
Inquisitor: You caught me; and here I was trying to be taller. Kieran: But you can't be taller. Not without the Titans. (Also note Dagna's rune dream of being mountain tall like a Titan.)
- Taller dwarves...?

True, but not in the game. IIRC, neither Wynne or Shale are mentioned in DAI by Cole or Rhys. I consider the books to be somewhat looser canon in that regard. Both Wynne and Shale can be killed by your hand in DA:O, and unless both miraculously returned as spirits...

Cole does mention Wynne in Inquisition: he says she died for a Templar he (Rhys) loved. Of course, since she was inhabited by a faith spirit, it's entirely possible the spirit revived her (again) after being killed by the Warden.
For me, if we don't see Kal Sharok and/or dwarves from Kal Sharok in DA4, I will be very disappointed.

Kordilus Drakon's vision:
Portents of the Maker's Return:
Seven times seventy men of stone immense Rose up from the earth like sleepers waking at the dawn, Crossing the land with strides immeasurable, And in the hollows of their footprints Paradise was stamped, indelible.
And I heard from the East a great cry As men who were beasts warred with their brothers, Tooth and claw against blade and bow, Until one could no longer be told from the other, And cursed them and cursed their generations.
And those who slept, the ancient ones, awoke, For their dreams had been devoured By a demon that prowled the Fade As a wolf hunts a herd of deer. Taking first the weakest and frailest of hopes, And when there was nothing left, Destroying the bright and bold By subtlety and ambush and cruel arts.
The ninth sacred mountain upon which rests The moral dust of Our Lady ascended Whole into the heavens, to be given high honor In the Realm of Dreams forever. And around it, a chorus of spirits sang: "Whatsoever passes through the fire Is not lost, but made eternal; As air can never be broken nor crushed, The tempered soul is everlasting!"
And I looked up and saw The seven gates of the Black City shatter, And darkness cloaked both realms.

He dies in CotJ if you take too long during the timed sections (you can get around this tediously by exploring them multiple times, you just need to keep defending the hall on time). So yeah, that's why the tile is there.

There are hints that one of the two remaining Old Gods is sealed beneath the Western Approach, a place that has darkspawn lurking around. That indicates that the Sixth Blight may not be far off.
Jaws of Hakkon gives us more information about Razikale. There seems to be a general shift to her now that Urthemiel has been dealt with. Jaws also has us face an enemy that closely matches the Chantry's claims about the nature of the Old Gods.
There is a reference to the possibility of an eighth Old God being stricken from the record, which would have serious implications about the Blights and ancient Tevinter. True that it's only mentioned in a brief codex entry, but so were the elven gods back in Origins and look how important they ended up being.
Based on the account of how Corypheus was sealed away, we can infer that the corpse of the corresponding Archdemon is needed to seal away one of the Magisters Sidereal. Since Razikale and Lusacan remain uncorrupted and therefore can not be used to seal away their magisters, and there is an account of multiple corrupted magisters running around the Deep Roads, this lends itself to future appearances by the Augur of Mystery and the Watchman of Night. Even if the Madman of Chaos, the Forgewright of Fire, and the Appraiser of Slavery were sealed away, they could still end up being released later.

Seven times seventy men of stone immense
Rose up from the earth like sleepers waking at the dawn,
Crossing the land with strides immeasurable,
And in the hollows of their footprints
Paradise was stamped, indelible.
Welp this would seem to say there are 700 titans and they'll be waking up in earnest one day, the bit about the hollows of their foot prints and paradise might have something to do with all the light and greenery we saw inside the titan in Descent. (side note, yay future major dwarf plotline) And I heard from the East a great cry
As men who were beasts warred with their brothers,
Tooth and claw against blade and bow,
Until one could no longer be told from the other,
And cursed them and cursed their generations.
My first immediate thought is the 'Nature of the Beast' quest in Dragon Age Origins, the Brecillian Forest is east of Orlais and the elves were fighting werewolves and being cursed into them, however that was resolved handily by the Warden one way or the other, so it might be a reference to something else. Another werewolf conflict? A reference to the red lyrium templars that turned monstrous and attacked regular templars? And those who slept, the ancient ones, awoke,
For their dreams had been devoured
By a demon that prowled the Fade
As a wolf hunts a herd of deer.
Taking first the weakest and frailest of hopes,
And when there was nothing left,
Destroying the bright and bold
By subtlety and ambush and cruel arts.
Could be a reference to how Solas plans to take care of the evanuris? Or instead of sleeping ancient elves it could mean the old gods that are slowly succumbing to the blight? The ninth sacred mountain upon which rests
The moral dust of Our Lady ascended
Whole into the heavens, to be given high honor
In the Realm of Dreams forever.
And around it, a chorus of spirits sang:
"Whatsoever passes through the fire
Is not lost, but made eternal;
As air can never be broken nor crushed,
The tempered soul is everlasting!"Well this seems a pretty blatant reference to the temple of sacred ashes + mountain bits getting raised into the sky with the breach at the end of DAI, that last line is harder to parse though. And I looked up and saw
The seven gates of the Black City shatter,
And darkness cloaked both realms.
Looks like we're going to be seeing some black city action, interesting that there are seven gates and seven old gods. Perhaps destroying all the old gods unleashes something? Maybe that's why Solas was against the wardens destroying them?

There is however a "Ser Barris Died" tile in the DA Keep, which lends a little more weight to his possible demise... He dies in CotJ if you take too long during the timed sections (you can get around this tediously by exploring them multiple times, you just need to keep defending the hall on time). So yeah, that's why the tile is there. But doesn't it automatically set itself to that if you don't do CotJ at all? That seems to indicate that not doing CotJ doesn't mean he escapes, but rather that he dies. And while Wynne had a credible way out of being dead I don't think Ser Barris does.

Yes, the only way to save Ser Barris is to do Champions of the Just. Presumably he becomes a red templar or is just killed.

I think you can safely assume that even if the Warden did think they had killed Wynne, her faith spirit raised her up afterwards, which would allow her still to be involved in the plot of Asunder, which is what Cole alludes to. After all Leliana was also raised/substituted by a lyrium spirit. It seems to be the standard solution to the problem of returning characters who are meant to be dead. However, I don't think Barris would be considered an important enough character to warrant being revived by a faith spirit.
I used to wonder if Drakon's prophesy was a bit of foreshadowing but that would essentially mean that the Maker must be Solas since this is the only way Drakon could have had a vision of these things. Why would the Maker show all these things to Drakon and yet fail to inform Andraste of things like Titans? Unless of course he did and Drakon had them taken out of the Chant, so as to make his "vision" seem more impressive. It is meant to be a vision of the end of the world, which is why people thought Corypheus opening up the sky was following the first part of it and why they assumed that you are the Herald of Andraste's return. The events are all mixed up if that was the case and in fact the end of the world didn't come because we averted it, so what does that say about the prophesy?
I'm hoping that Drakon's prophesy amounts to nothing or remains ambiguous (like Sandal's) because I think he was a charlatan and he was never Andraste's anointed. His prophesy and the title he claimed of "Blade of the Faith", was used to justify his purging of rival cults of Andraste and the Maker and his spreading of the faith by the sword. He may have convinced himself it was a genuine vision but I have no such illusions.
If his prophesy was true, then everything is pre-ordained in the world. According to Drakon once everyone starts singing the Chant, the events of his prophesy will follow. I think that was a misinterpretation of what Andraste actually taught when she was alive but we shall see.

I think that was a misinterpretation of what Andraste actually taught when she was alive but we shall see. I would be more skeptical of his vision too, but too many elements of it have turned out to actually be a thing in Thedas, things which Drakon would have no way of knowing about in his time. So at this point I'm thinking there may be elements of truth to it, though perhaps not as literal as the Chantry would like it to be. Edit: And Sandal's prophecy, we have been told, is a true one, but deliberately phrased so vaguely that it won't spoil anything to come. In the same way, Drakon's vison may be, in broad strokes, true, but there could still be details missing or misinterpreted. Or, heck, lost in time and translation.

Never got this in-game. How many times do you have to click on Sandal before he says it?
