This is my first time playing and while running around on Taris, I got prompted to talk to Carth.

Something like "Carth seems upset" etc etc. So I clicked on him and he's so angry that I'm talking to him.

So I'm like, "Well, Carth, I got this prompt..."
"I don't trust you. I don't want to talk about it"
"OK, but see, this prompt indicated I should talk to you because you're upset."
"Fine. I was betrayed."
"Sorry about that."
"I'm keeping my eye on you for betrayal reasons. You'll betray me. Probably."
"OK."
"I don't want to talk about this."

Apparently he's romanceable?

As ridiculous as Carth is, he's always the LI in my games. I always thought he was more compelling than Bastila, and Juhani's romance feels tacked on in comparison with the other two.

I don't like Bastila.
Maybe I'm KOTORing all wrong. I think she's haughty, but I can be turned around on her as I go through the game.
on the other hand, Carth is starting to grow on me.

I think Bastila is probably my least favorite party member. That's not to say I dislike her, I just like everyone else more. She does have plot stuff happen which may influence you one way or the other. So does Carth, so I'll be curious to know what you think once you finish the game.

I read about her on the wiki and she seems far more interesting to me.

Juhani's 'romance' is buggy as hell. From what I can recall she was intended to be a full blown romance for a female PC like Carth is however Bioware got told 'No' by LucasArts not too long before release so Juhani's romance track got pulled in a hurry but there are fragments of it left in the game so it's somewhat random if it fires or not.

I stuck with Carth and found his romance to be really sweet.
there's a restoration mod though that I think is a must have for Juhani's romance to play out like it's supposed to. and here's a romance guide for anyone interested.

I love romancing him in my female playthroughs, taking all his deflections and vague suspicions personally, getting all offended and forcing him to constantly defend his silence and insulting insinuations. He completely falls apart trying to apologize and take his accusations back, and it's adorable.

The way that romance lets you actually have fights and treat it as further chemistry and sexual tension instead of incompatibility really hits the mark. Some great writing went into that. The "hairless wookie" line alone makes me want to strangle whoever decided that SWTOR should feature a canon male Revan.
