Used to be a huge fan of the series. San Andreas was probably my favorite, it had that "gang" appealing for all of us younglins when we where at high school. Nowadays I don't really like the series that much anymore. Not because I think it's bad, but because I just lost a lot of interest.
BTW I do have GTA V on PC pretty much since release, with only 12 hours of gameplay. Most of that not due to me not wanting to play but the game actually not fucking working and Rockstar support being useless morons. I bought it mostly because of the multiplayer, but then I remember (after buying it...) that I wouldn't have anyone to play with.

GTA makes up for 60% of my console backlog lol.
Other GTA-related thoguhts/trivia:
First experience with GTA was either 1 or 2 at a buddy's house. Whichever one had the line of joggers in brown track suits. I thought they looked like cooked turkeys and always endeavored to run over the turkeys.
First GTA game I actually owned was GTA3 on the PS2. Lots of hours in that game. If you stock up enough ammo (or cheat) you can hold out against the cops indefinitely at the landing of the police station (ironically) between it and the hospital in the first area. Obviously choppers still come after you, but the AI isn't usually smart enough to come up the ramp around back and take you out. And since you're on foot, they'll drive up tanks right below you, get out and have a nice grenade/molotov dropped on them. Then you can steal a tank and go on a rampage that way. Also funny how tanks were invulnerable to everything except slow cooking by flamethrower. I miss that. Also ridiculously overpowered M4 vs the AK-47. Fav radio station: K-Jah
I played Vice City at another friend's house quite extensively but didn't get it myself until years later (late 2000s maybe even 2011-12). I also played it at school (long story there). Vice City is also where the perpetually flying tank was born (and apparently died since later games don't allow you to rotate the turret a full 180). Also loved shooting random assholes off bikes with the magnum. The distance they flew back was entertaining. Also this was the one that had Flock of Seagulls so props for that. I guess they were kicking themselves for blowing all the Scarface soundtrack on III though.
San Andreas was the bomb. Loved taking over gang territory with a jetpack and some Tac9s. Also loved cruising the desert in a chopper (the bike, not the helicopter) listening to K-DST. I actually have a K-DST playlist I'll pop on sometimes.
Got the Liberty City/Vice City Stories PS2 port two pack for Christmas one year before I finally got Vice City for myself. Played through Liberty City Stories, still need to do Vice City and Vice City stories (this is where the backlog starts).
My friends got me GTA IV for my birthday years ago (again, mid-2000s). Still haven't played it. San Andreas has made it hard to go back to Vice City with all the new features, I figure between that and the graphics update, it'd be even worse if I played IV first. I did pop it in briefly which resulted in a trophy entry on my account still sitting at 0%
Obviously haven't even touched V yet.
I'll get through it. Eventually.

How would you feel about multiple protags in GTA VI? I guess it worked in V, Rockstar can make a lot of things work I give them that, but I'm still not fan of it. I'm not part of GTA community, so I have no idea what kind of general feedback they got, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was positive. As for GTA VI - Rockstar discovered a real gold mine with GTA Online, to the point that they even abandoned all single-player support. After that I can only expect some kind of GTA MMO and that's totally not my thing.

Yah, I mean, I keep waiting for a price drop (and no, not the Steam Sale price drops) of about 70-80%. Never comes, so therefore, never playing it. I tried to play IV, I got that one cheap... But quit about maybe 1/20th the way into it? I wasn't very far. Just too f'in' boring.

From now until the 26th, GTA Online will be covered in snow again. Enjoy it while you still can. I swear, if it wasn't for the game being 60gb in size I'd just uninstall it... (took me quite a while to download back then when I really wanted to play).

The best thing about GTA Online is that Rockstar still updates and adds new contents regularly for free. Although lot of new DLCs are end game items which cost an astronomical amount of money.
Newcomers always struggle to make money, but once they have made friends who are capable of doing missions and heists together, the game becomes a lot more enjoyable.
The player base is pretty much expected for a game that promotes violence and illegal activities. Public sessions are full of griefers, trolls, and assholes in general. (Plus tons of cheaters if you play on the PC)
Personally, I'm lucky to have met many helpful and friendly people through playing heists. Without them, I probably would've just finished the single player campaign and uninstalled it forever.

GTA series was always too stupid and violent for me growing up, but GTA V definitely appealed to people like me (who were otherwise turned off by that kind of crap in the past) - except for one unacceptable scene, it's one of the greatest games I've ever played. I live in Los Angeles and the immensity of the realistic city AND SURROUNDING COUNTRY that they rendered is mind-blowing. What the hell.

Ive played a tinnnnyyyyy amount of this, and my current impressions: I wish people would stop swearing... just because you have an M rated game doesnt mean every second word in a sentence needs to be a curse... I gave up trying to understand baaaaadddd writing there Im also in the same position as Addictress and I think the city is amazing The character creator sucks though... like completely sucks I did a race online and it seemed fun, although I did end up rolling down a biiigggg slope and I came last... So far ive died about 3 times I think... 1 was... I dont know what it was, some kind of deathmatch thing I really didnt want to do but the game made me... I thought I was doing the sensible thing and climbed up a ladder so I could see everyone, but it was like 2 vs 1 for some reason... so I died The second was when I got a call/message thing saying I could buy property so I pulled up at the side of the road and started looking at houses (and found they were all soooooooo expensive)... while I was busy another player killed me in 1 shot and then I saw a weird guy in heaven The third... someone pulled up next to me in a big truck with a gun on it and I was shot again Im not exactly sure how I feel about the game though... its ok i guess but I probably wont play much of it, I dont think its for me haha But if someone plays on PS4 id give it a go with them

If you want to avoid getting killed by others in public sessions, you can enable "passive mode" in the interactive menu. I usually stay in my own invite-only session with my friends because public sessions are full of cheaters on the PC.
It's definitely not a fun game if you don't have anyone to play with.

I'm not against multiple protags but I am against this current "reality" era of GTA where the cities are just empty, soulless carbon copies of their real life counterparts. I'd also like them to go back to the 3D/PS2 era and bring back the mafioso/gang warfare style that GTA3 and Vice City had. I'd like something different as well, like playing as a corrupt cop or a bounty hunter or something. Maybe even a female as one of the PCs. Most of all, pick a tone. Not 85% parody like 4 and 5.
What I want to hear from GTA in this gen is a good electronic, rap, and an actual METAL station maybe featuring Djent and Deathcore. On the electronic front, LSUR was a step in the right direction.

It's that time of year again folks! Where snow is back without some jackass modding the game. I really wish they kept the snow around longer or at least had some servers with it. Is anyone else still playing GTA Online? I've been having fun wit the latest dlc's vehicles, particularly the motorcycles with the saw blades. It's hilarious to go ghost organization and hunt down would be griefers. The vehicular selection for the most part is impressive, especially now that I've got most of my favorite sports cars from car design's golden age such as the McLaren F1, Supra, Esprit, and RS200. Driving and testing gets addicting sometimes.

So, I realized today that I haven't really earned any achievements in GTA IV PC version. That is my next project. Been working through all past titles. Granted, once Anthem comes out, it's over.

So I've bounced off GTAV twice (just struggled to get into it) but with the appealing GTAVI trailer, I may try again.

Yeah I'm not really a GTA playe rbut the nwe trailer looks good I may be tempted by it if and when it does make it's wa yto PC as I heard it's coming to consoles first PC later. Not somethin gto worry about now though given it's dated 2025 so it's still more than a year out.

So: Grand Theft Auto V. Prologue. Shoot a guard in the head. (yes, i tried to wing him, but that's not allowed apparently) First mission. Recover a bike. Shoot a guy who's enquiring why I'm opening his garage. Shoot 9 more in the head. (to get perfect score) Looks like I have to do a 'renegade' playthrough...

I've never played any GTA and I don't think the new one will be my cup of tea either but, damn, that's an impressive trailer. Almost photorealistic in places, at least on a small phone screen. Loving the song they picked, too. Just perfect.
I spent two weeks in Florida as a 14 year old kid with my mom and my best friend's family, had the worst sunburn of my life in Miami, lol. Don't remember anything too crazy at the time but that was 25 years ago and my memories mostly consist of Disney World, Sea World, some big ass water park, manatees, and an alligator farm. *g*
Maybe if the storytelling is good I'll check it out. I loved RDR2, my only experience with Rockstar. To this day the best open world created imo. If the trailer isn't totally misleading like so often, this is next level.

I almost started a thread yesterday, but just couldn't believe there wasn't one already. Surely I must be going mad?
Anyway, I'm optimistic about the protagonists. Probably a bit of a Bonnie and Clyde / True Romance thing going on there, which could be interesting and might mean they are nuanced leads.
I enjoyed GTA5, but only actually played it once. The open world, the random and wacky things you could find, the heist preparation, the switching between characters, etc were all very well done, but I just didn't like Michael, Franklin or Trevor at all. GTA4 was a less impressive game with less to do outside the main story, but I found Niko a much more complex and sympathetic character. Trying to drive your date home drunk was usually hilarious, especially if everything spiraled out of control. (I preferred the driving in general in GTA4, as it took some practice to be able to take corners at speed without stacking it, but they made it much more forgiving in GTA5).
I'm curious how the characters will work in GTA6. Will we pick one of the two to play or swap between them GTA5 style? It might seem a bit weird to switch between two characters in a relationship, although it could be interesting if it's done well.
Looks like it will be a long wait for PC though.
Edit: LOL. I just realised how ancient this thread is. Just not much traffic since. Still, I'll leave my error for all to see.

Yea hthey're not normally my thing either. GTA usuall yhas a very cartoony look about it. I tend to focus on NFS when i comes t ogames lik tha tas it's moe rfocused on racing. I'll admit if the graphics aer as good as tha tin the gam eI migh thave t ocheck it out as that's som eimpressive stuff they'v edone there. I tlooks pretty on par wit hother impressive openworld titles like Hogwarts and the Horizon games at least. Yeah I went to Florida on holida ygrowing up to to Disne yworld and the like again lik eyo uit was 20/30 years ago now and I don't remember anything to crazy The landmarks remind me more of NFS Heat than. GTA though. But then NFS Heat was supposedly set in a fictitious area in Miami. I think m ybrother hadone of th eearl yGTA's eithe rthe first o rsecond ones and I played som eof that but I haven' treall yplayed an yof them since. Mostly becaus eit never really appealed t ome. Though atm if the trailer is anything to g oby I ma ycheck the new one out.
