So I've just wrapped up i think most of the side quests that relate to ME2/ME3, got my charm maxxed and its time for me to probably do Feros, Virmire then Ilos and the finale.
Question - do you guys think its better from a story perspective to do Bring Down the Sky before or after the usual ME1 ending? In the past I've always done BDTS AFTER the final fight but now i'm wondering what makes more sense and fits better.
Also side question - I have Pinnacle Station - any reason to do anything there? Isn't it a shooting gallery?

If you want to play Bring Down the Sky, you have to play it before you land on Ilos. If you complete the game, you will have to load a previous save (if you have one) before Ilos. When an Mass Effect 1 playthrough ends, you go back to the main menu.
Completing Pinnacle Station will give you access to a store that will give you randomized items (from a limited pool of mostly great items) for a price. If you play it early enough, it is a good way to spend all your extra credits to try to get the best weapons, amps, omni tools, and medical exoskeleton mods for your squad. That being said, it can be very boring and tedious, so if you do not care about equipment you can safely ignore it. I think you mentioned earlier you were playing on Veteran difficulty? If you are on Veteran, do not bother with Pinnacle Station since you should already be steamrolling through the game.

Isn't it a shooting gallery? I don't think it matters with BDTS since it doesn't become relevant until ME3. When I RP a Colonist background Shepard I like to do it early. Shep can't wait to kill them, so the sooner the better. I did a whole Twin Shepards RP where they were from Mindoir. One was Paragon-ish and the other Renegade-ish. One wanted them more dead than the other. It was actually a fun RP and can be found many, many, many pages ago in the "What did you do today in ME" thread.
EDIT: In retrospect, do it before the ending. Shep has definite Council missions to scan for geth and it's only a couple weeks after the end of ME1 before the SR-1 is blown up.
Pinnacle Station isn't all that useful except in terms of maybe getting one or two more levels. From an RP perspective, it's worthwhile (some Alliance marine's ass is on the line if you don't help him). Otherwise, skip it. Not all that interesting, which is probably why you can only get it buy purchasing ME1 or the MET on Origin.

The few times I played bring down the sky, I chose to complete it shortly after Shepard becomes spectre.

I would do BDtS before you do both of your two remaining main plot worlds (i.e. Feros and Virmire). If you do both of your remaining main plot worlds, you'll get hijacked to the Citadel and then you'll wind up doing BDtS after stealing Normandy. From a story perspective, it's just never made sense to me to do side missions after stealing Normandy, since you're supposed to be in a big rush to catch Saren now that you know where he's going and why. As Red indicated, you will not have an actual opportunity to do BDtS after the final fight. If you do load a previous save to do it, then its results will not be tagged to your save import to ME2 and ME3.
This late in the game, I would probably forget about doing Pinnacle Station unless you're in real need of some better gear to finish off the game and you have the excess money to "gamble" for the gear you want Doing it completely will give you access to the Level X spectre weapons regardless of your level, IIRC. However, you have to outright win a total of 12 specific challenges and 1 very, very tough special challenge fore you'll gain access to the UI which will just give you a chance to get the specific gear you want from the pool for each 220,000 credits you put down on it. That final challenge can be a real pain on higher difficulties unless you've rolled through it before at least a few times and are familiar with the various "tricks" that make it easier. I often just roll back the difficulty for that challenge, but you won't want to do that since you're trying to unlock hardcore and insanity... and changing the setting from Veteran even during the DLCs will prevent that from happening.

Thanks guys I'm an idiot. Haven't finished ME1 in a while. Forgot the game just ends and you can't continue. Therefore, u have to do BDTS first. Thanks for all the tips. I am finishing up the Geth mission for Tali's pilgrimage - then i think ive done all the crew member missions. I was headed to Feros next since I finally maxxed charm. P.S. I did take advantage of the monkey Paragon bug - only twice. I think it gave me +12 paragon. That bumped me up to max. I realize i would have gotten +40 paragon or so by doing Feros quests, before I have the max-charm check anyway so it didn't matter. But I only abused that monkey bug twice. Didn't want to max paragon, made me feel dirty. Kaidan/Ashley don't have a specific me1 mission, right? I'll skip Pinnacle as well. Might play with it early on another playthrough then.

No, but there are mods if you're playing on a PC...

I'll skip Pinnacle as well. Might play with it early on another playthrough then. 1. Lorik Quin also has a glitch you can abuse for Paragon and/or Renegade points. If you play full Paragon or Renegade, getting max Paragon or Renegade is not hard, but using the Lorik Quin glitch can give it to you much earlier. Basically, after completing his mission to get the data, you can Charm/Intimidate him into testifying. You can then talk to him again and ask about Benezia. Asking him about Benezia will unlock the Charm/Intimidate options again. You can continue doing this until you fill your Paragon/Renegade bars. This is good for filling the bars early to get your free Charm/Intimdate points. 2. Kaiden/Ashley do not have a specific ME1 mission. (Neither does Liara.) 3. Pinnacle Station is best done with good equipment or on a low difficulty; preferably both. Time Trial Missions work best with you, Liara, and Kaiden having quick cooldowns which requires max passive talents and two mods with cooldown bonuses (Medical Exoskeletons, Kinetic Buffers). That means you have to do it later in the game, but best before Virmire to make sure you have Kaiden available if you plan on killing him later.

That's the thing with Pinnacle Station - It can be really frustrating to try to win those challenges with low-level skills and gear unless you lower the difficulty... and then when you're leveled enough to do them reasonably quickly on higher difficulties, you probably don't really need the gear it offers (which is random anyways).
