I would like to ask how many of you have a Mahariel as Canon warden? How did you find this origin? What do you think of Tamlen and his heartbroken apparition later in the game as a goule? I personally find that this origin has the less connections with the story of the game but really sad because he is ripped away from his clan for the error of another. I am really sorry for
Tamlen too because he had a form of innocence and pay a high Price for his error.

Well, it is a little short in comparison to other origins, which is probably why it feels uneventful to some people. But if you're a fan of elves, it still does a good job at immersing you in that atmosphere. And as far as connections go, the Dalish origin is pretty relevant to the Witch Hunt DLC, which feels like a perfect closure to the Dalish Warden's story.
Yeah, meeting Tamlen again is a powerful moment because of how unexpected it is. A first time player is certain that Tamlen was long dead, so meeting him again in the worst possible way does have an impact.

I felt it had a fair amount of impact. The first time I saw Tamlen in camp it was quite a shock. But Awakening has a bit more grist for the mill for a Dalish elf and as Iddy mentioned,. Witch Hunt has a lot for Dalish Warden.

I found this origin really immersive. The feeling of belonging to this dalish clan. And for Tamlen he was introduced as your friend (and for a Fem Warden even perhaps more), losing him like that at the very beginning is hard. I wasn't expecting his return too. I though he was dead (it probably would have been better)

I'd argue that while the Dalish origin may feel a bit less relevant to the Origins story, it's by far the most relevant one to the series as a whole so far with the Eluvians, and the clan cameo, in subsequent games and the revelations about Elven history throughout and beyond Inquisition. And it's one of only two origins to pit you against darkspawn even before Ostagar as you can remark to Alistair, and give you a direct personal reason to resent the Blight. Tamlen and your own corruption for Mahariel, and the Darkspawn perpetually hammering Orzammar's defenses as an Aeducan. Not to mention the Elves of the Dales originally being cast down for not participating in the eradication of a Blight, and the previous slayer of an Archdemon being Elven as well. There's a reason the default canon Grey Warden PC is a Dalish Elf, methinks. It's been a while since I played the game as Dalish, but I do plan on playing next time as essentially my current Lavellan Inquisitor reiterated as a hunter with the Sabrae clan in Ferelden a decade earlier. And I'm quite looking forward to it.

I think it's far more interesting and meaningful to go back to that origin after having played through the other games for the reasons you state. Just regarding DAO, it is a somewhat disconnected beginning, but after all the lore reveals later on, it becomes much more relevant.

I love Mahariel (currently playing one who I plan on making my canon), it was the second origin I played when the game first came out (my first was a Cousland)
out of all of the origins it's one of my favorites, and because I play on pc I'm able to add a few mods to enrich the experience it makes the ending of the origin less abrupt and even brought me to tears (mostly due to me playing a very reluctant Warden who refuses to go with Duncan even though it'd mean her death) Mahariel: This is all I've ever known! This is my home! ^ I love this one, imo. it's so powerful and conveys so much
I think the fact that Mahariel is one of the more neutral origins in term of everything going on makes me like them so much

Mahariel is my cannon warden too. She was the first warden I ever played and is still my favorite. It's the world state I carry into DAI and I've never changed it.
