With all the push and pull between peeps wanting to go back to the Milky Way or stay in Andromeda for a full fledged 50-100 hr sequel, I'm thinking that finishing the plot threads of the Ryder-specific story might be doable as a more contained 12-15 hr expansion.
Recently, we've seen games like "Far Cry New Dawn", "Dishonored: Death of the Outsider", or "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" be added to existing, established franchises, allowing you to play through that universe but with different characters, stories or mission types. I think this is something that could be pulled off with "ME:A" in terms of allowing the remaining plot threads of Ryder's specific family-related story (The Benefactor and the fate of Ellen Ryder) to be told in a very focused way. Specifically, it means:
- Missions that are designed to still allow you to leverage the jetpack but the corridor is narrowed so there is a less open world feel to it like the intro mission on "Habitat 7" or the critical path missions. - Set immediately after the events of "ME:A" - Story is focused on the Ryder family, Jien Garson and the Benefactor - You import your Ryder and your choices are acknowledged - Companions can be added to the party but some missions will automatically default add your other sibling
I'm thinking this could allow BioWare to experiment with conversations that are not from a distant perspective like we saw in both DAI and MEA but more focused on the on the back-and-forth between Ryder and the NPC...especially nice if they have Anthem-level MOCAP. Additionally, since they don't have to worry about filling five planets worth of activity, they can focus on getting creative with the level designs like we saw in Liam's Companion quest or the mission to rescue the Salarian Ark and make individual events more meaningful. Also, if they want you to revisit one, or all, of the five planets from ME:A, all the assets are there and they can just add new content.
In the end, the Ryder Family/Benefactor quest-line is completed and you set up to either continue with the Ryder to solve the issues with the Jardaan/The Opposition/The Kett or they can be NPCs to a new protagonist a la "Dragon Age".

I've been a big supporter of this idea for a while. Tie up loose ends. Make Andromeda fans happy with a tight 15 hour expansion. Make the people who want more Milky way happy by returning sooner. Who knows? Maybe we will see another full in Andromeda game some day...but an expansion could introduce new races and companions...it'd be like awakenings I suppose.

Pretty much like your idea, but think the benefactor story was meant to be spread across multiply games so not sure if they can finish it in the expansion. It's better to make a sequel.

It's not a terrible concept, but if DLC didn't work, financially, I don't see how this works.

Yeah, that would be fine. I think they could get some traction in terms of what they dealing with though in the expansion and go from there. Give some insight if the "benefactor" is an individual or group, motives for financing the Andromeda Initiative and enabling the Human-Artificial Intelligence linked SAMs

It's not a terrible concept, but if DLC didn't work, financially, I don't see how this works. I think DLC didn't work mostly because of the rush in the 18 month, Mac Walter-led final push just to get ME:A out the door and follow-up work on patches and planned in-game content through the last week of July 2017 didn't allow for a lot of future development. Once BioWare Montreal was absorbed in EA Motive to help finish development on "Battlefront II", BioWare Edmonton/Austin wasn't really in a position to take people off "Anthem" to create non-related content. They've since moved into more modern facility in Edmonton that might allow to expand for the personnel necessary to complete such a project.

Ryder was a failure. Does not need an expansion. Simple as that...i m sry to be a bit crude but reality is what it is. There will be no ryder expansion.

I've states my preference many times... an Andromeda sequel that eventually takes the Initiative back to the Milky Way (which was what was hinted at by Mac Walters before Andromeda released). In short, Bioware should just continue with whatever story for Andromeda they originally planned and just make Ryder a little more jaded and edgier (which I'm confident is what they were planning to do anyways).
The only reason why I might support condensing the story into an expansion is if they get it out the door in the next year (which they won't)... and that's only because it's unlikely I'll be around to play any sort of sequael game in 4 or 5 years anyways. BTW, it's not Andromeda fans who need appeasing... Bioware just sticking with their original fans is just fine with me. Andromeda "haters" are being unreasonable... it's not necessary (and not ever a good idead, iMO) to derail the entire story plan just because the game that introduced it is rated as average and panned by a bunch of disgruntled ME3 types who were bound to pan any new ME game anyways... and who will most likely pan the next one regardless of what Bioware does.

I'm pretty much on board with any new Andromeda content with Ryder. As UpUpAgain said, I don't think the characters need to be scrapped, just matured a bit. Starting from scratch would be a step backward, because one of the main attractions of ME games is seeing past decisions play out in a new game. An Andromeda expansion can serve as a test balloon for a full sequel -- fewer resources committed in case it doesn't work out. Also, I'm in favor of moving back toward semi-open rather than open world settings. The plot just hangs together better when you're not wandering around scanning rocks 40% of the time.

I like this though I'd say leave the open world, just scale back the mineral gathering or drastically cut back on the amount we need for crafting and upgrades. I'm just a big open world buff and just can't get into the linear style gameplay anymore.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind basically an Andromeda 2/subtitle that works basically like Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood or Rogue. That is to say, they basically use the entire basis of the original game, barely change anything about gameplay/graphics/engine. Basically no technical changes. Just generate a few new assets and environments and concentrate on the story and characters instead. The gameplay of Andromeda works very well and the graphics look good even today so there wouldn't be any (or only very minor) changes to be made. All we really need is more content to continue/complete the story lines. However, I do not see this happening. It's very late for something like this now and BioWare doesn't really do that sort of thing anyway. From what we heard in the Schreier articles, they didn't even reuse their tech basis from Inquisition for Andromeda or Anthem. They basically rather start from scratch. IMO that was and is a huge mistake but I can't see BW suddenly digging out the Andromeda code and build a new game with it, especially since the studio that made Andromeda doesn't exist anymore. So unfortunately, that won't ever happen. Even if there will be an Andromeda 2, I'd expect it will be built on a fairly new basis.

I don't see it working, for multiple reasons. First of all, the promise of it being all the things that Andromeda 1 was supposed to be. It is the same deal, as with DA2's DLC, which didn't enjoy the number of sales it was probably worth, because it was overpriced and required purchase of the original game, too boot. It is a lot to ask of anyone. Similarly, you are asking people that weren't pleased with the Andromeda premise to begin with, to just go with it, the people who bought Andromeda and disliked it, that if you pay a little extra, you're going to get something that you will like and all this on promise of good faith and all this, after Bioware basically killed Mass Effect, in favour of an even more poorly received Anthem. Get ready to get shat on by a whole lot of angry people, if you do this.

I do somewhat agree with you but I think developmen tbegan on bot hInqusition amnd Andromeda begamn moer or less the same time i twas only the messing about with things like procedural p;lanets or whatever it was they ewre originally planning wit hAndromeda and the projrcts mismanagement that led to where it ended up.
