Did anyone ever figure out the actual algo for how negative traits are given?
Clearly it is tied to difficulty level and/or chance of success (most likely both), but I don't see a way to figure it out from data mining my results.
As an aside: I've gotten negative traits failing the following (among many others): 66% Gold fail
90% Silver fail
94% Bronze fail

According to BioWare it’s when the team “critically fails” a mission. So I take that to mean it’s completely random.

According to BioWare it’s when the team “critically fails” a mission. So I take that to mean it’s completely random. Thanks. I had checked your strike team guide in the past and recalled something about "critical failures".
I still imagine crits will have their own probability table, which may be a fcn of difficulty level and/or success chance. While I can't say how they do it, I'm pretty sure (based on a lot of logging), that the negative trait rate is much higher on low-probability missions. So I'm sure it isn't just a "1% chance on any mission". It could be as simple as a second roll with a fix crit %, after a fail (so greater failure rate chance, i.e. Golds and other low-probability attempts, would lead to more negative traits).
I have changed my approach (tired of getting 16+ negatives!) by no longer attempting any below 50%. And my negative trait rate has dropped precipitously. Instead of as much as 2 a week(!), maybe one every 2-6 weeks.
One thing I did figure out from my logging that you don't have in your excellent guide: Strike mission XP formula. It is: 150 XP per minute with following multipliers: 0.1X for a fail 1X for Bronze 2X for Silver 6X for Gold
Apex vs. nominal doesn't matter (except Apex missions are typically longer, thus indirectly higher XP).

So I take that to mean it’s completely random. This. EDIT: Ah, posted at the same time. Interesting thing is that few times my team with four negative traits and only 66% chance to win on gold walked out victorious.

Ah, interesting. If I still gave a shit about this game I'd update the guide.
