Is there anyone else who is struggling to find a public game? I'm thinking that this has to do with my console's lag setting although it could be something else. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure your NAT = Open. Other than that, just patience. I have an impossible time finding Platinum games and even Golds are getting sparse.
Sometimes I'll host my own Gold lobby and people tend to join by Wave 3. Or not, in which case it turns into a solo attempt.
There's typically a surge of players right when the Daily Challenges refresh which is 8:00 PM Eastern time.
