Search function broke?

The ProBoards search has always been a bit... not-great. Honestly, it's a lot easier to find something using google, with a site-specific search string.

If you throw something into google like:
site:https://bsn.boards.net/thread/9439/numerical-damage-tests "hot duration"

it'll narrow the search to that thread, and look for the phrase "HoT duration". Any words in quotes like "min/maxing" or "hack" it will search for that string specifically (standalone, surrounded by spaces), but you can skip the double-quotes if you want to be more general for broader results.

It's not perfect, but it's generally more reliable than the ProBoards search, especially when the ProBoards search isn't working. Meanwhile I'll put in a support request with PB, and see if they can have the search database rebuilt, I think that's what "fixed" it last time.

I am aware that the search function is not great; but now it doesn't seem to work at all? Used the function last week without problems.

You usually can search for posts from specific users (which I sometimes use to make sure I don't post things in the same thread twice xD) but now that doesn't work at all. It doesn't show any results, even in threads where I just posted the minute before.

Oh, I misunderstood completely this whole time... you mean the thing where you click the little spyglass and then choose a username to search/filter by?

I've been poking around with it, and I can make it work, but only if I'm searching for something as well?

So, if I put something in the search box like "posts"... it will find all the posts with that word in it. If I then click through and add the filter adding a user (I used dreamowl ) then it only shows the posts that you made, that have the word 'posts' in it.

That's not very helpful, because you have to search for something first, and then you have to actually search for something. If I leave the search box blank, it returns zero results. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be the behaviour... I'll ask in the support forum.

Also, putting something like "*" in the searchbox doesn't actually seem to work?

Weird.

I just searched for Chenowl Blanc posts in DQ using the menu bar search and no asterisk or anything in post content and it showed 8 pages of results, which is correct.

But searching for her posts using the search function inside the thread yielded nothing. It also showed nothing for me and I'm pretty sure I have posted in that thread
