So, I just read it. Too short by half, I want more. I probably would have said that had it been 50 pages, but still. lol Loving the storyline so far. I like Francesca's magic. I want her staff. If she is a companion in the next game, I am stealing it. I plan on playing a dwarf. Still stealing it. Love Vaea, Francesca, Aaron, and the doggo. I don't mind Marius, either, so far. Personally I think the sarcophagus looking thing is some old device that aided uthenera or is a rejuvenation chamber of some kind. Hence it being the key to "unlimited power" if "used correctly". It taps in to the Fade. Yep. And with a careful read of the preview pages, you may get a theory of what it is and does… I have formed one. The device is what Denarius used to give Fenris his power and now his son wants to do the same to other fighters/elves but this time using red lyrium. Something along those lines anyway. So... stupid is as stupid does. Forrest Gump is proven right and the Denarius line was doomed from the start, basically? lol (To be clear, I like the theory. Just saying, if its accurate, even a blind man could see that backfiring *horribly* from a mile away.)
EDIT: Oh, and the most important bit...

I liked the issue, so far I’m liking Francesca and want to see more of her. Autumn is adorable 😍 My money is on the casket being used to give Fenris’ lyrium infused tattoos.

I finished reading the first issue. So far I am loving Francesca (glad my gut was right about her) and Vaea. I really like how their relationship is being developed, and am looking forward to them becoming even better friends.
Oh, and Fenris is there too I guess. This might be my favorite chapter of the three since I’m not a fan of Fenris. But the other main characters make it worth it even to me.

Finished! Enjoying it so far it was over too soon! - Autumn is too cute for school I'm die - I dig the location in the second part being north-west of Arlathan forest, it makes me think that elfy stuff/lore is gonna happen - clenches fist Clan Boranehn gifted Vaea her horse.. my heart.. her naming him Da'len despite not knowing what it means exactly reminds me of the Solas/Sera banter where Solas tells her their People can sometimes feel the rhythm of the elvhen language, despite lacking the vocabulary. It's also an interesting piece of lore - so some Dalish clans keep horses, not just halla? makes sense given the Dalish All-Bred mount in DA:I. - lol @ Vaea's "you know slavery is immoral and killing slavers is what good guys do right?" sideeye - during Ser Aaron's time with the... ? with the elves/Dalish? plant magic has so far usually been the purview of Dalish elves, so if I had to hazard a guess? nunziodefilippis I'm so curious, does the long-haired Dalish elf with Elgar'Nan vallaslin have a name?

Doubling the connection she has to the horse. I liked that as well, and found it interesting how Francesca thoughts suggested she agrees with her to an extent. That along with her threatening the man who was about to beat a slave says a lot about her.

Fenris' former teammate is named Shirallas - that will be revealed in the next issue. Da'len is a Dalish All-Bred And Ser Aaron's horse, Cassé, is an Orlesian Courser You will get to hear the rest of that sentence from Ser Aaron somewhere down the line, I promise. Glad it seems to have gone over well so far. I promise, much more Fenris in Issues 2 & 3. Sorry, Hanako Ikezawa

My dislike of him is mostly because of him being really mean to characters I did like, most notably Merrill. And I imagine that he will be hostile towards Francesca. But if anything, he'll just make what I like about Vaea and Francesca shine even more with the contrast.

Pretty good first issue. It's maybe juggling a few too many things at once — Ser Aaron struggling with his alcoholism, Vaea trying to keep him on the wagon, Francesca explaining her motivations, so forth and so on — but otherwise a decent read. Vaea's still the star here, since she's the most likeable. (Oh, and Autumn is pretty cute.) Looking forward to Issue 2 and 3. My gut is telling me that there is going to be another comic to follow this one, however. I think Blue Wraith is about resolving Francesca's thing with her dad and possibly getting Fenris on board to help with breaking into the impenetrable Castellum Tenebris. I just want to take a moment to ask one thing: WHAT'S UP WITH THAT GUY WITH THE MUTTON CHOPS? I know this art style kind of lends itself to Gonks, but that guy's head is like a pumpkin!

I posted this in their character threads but figured they could go here to: Thoughts on Francesca She was super adorable as a kid. Also love how her brother was always there for her, even against their father.
I understand why she is in the emotional state she is considering the death of her brother and loss of her home, but I do hope through this she realizes that she was right in believing in things like friends and family and looking for beauty in the world, unlike right now where it seems she has surrendered to the cruel world mentality.
Her magic is really cool. We've seen plant magic before with some characters like Velanna and Merrill, but those usually used things like roots while Francesca creates thorned flowers and carnivorous plants. A neat way to make her unique among the already unique magic users. Also interesting how powerful she was, to the point Marius had even heard rumors about her from when he was a magekiller so she was even younger then.
She still is not a fan of Caius, which makes sense. Especially when she brings up the point when he says "You know I'm not responsible for your brothers death" and she goes "No, I know you didn't kill him. There's a difference." which yeah even though he didn't personally do it he was responsible for hiring the Crows that did. He seems to be the only one she has really any issue with at the moment, since she is polite to Aaron.
It was really cool to see that even though she is from an altus family she does not approve of abusing slaves, even going so far as threatening the friend of the family who was about to punish one for spilling a drink on her dress. she also thinks how the old her would agree with Vaea when she talks about how the person killing slavers are the good guys.
Speaking of, I'm loving the relationship between her and Vaea. They seem to genuinely like each other and confide in each other. They do have a lot in common like losing their families and homes, so it's understandable, but even before Francesca knew that she was good with Vaea. It'll be interesting to see how their friendship develops. It's great to see two of my favorite characters getting along so well.
Thoughts on Vaea I'm really liking this development of her becoming more of a leader, like how she goes after Francesca not just because her power could be useful for their mission but also because she can tell Francesca needs somebody with her. Their whole relationship with each other is great and both can relate to each other since both have lost their families and homes. She knows what's its like to be alone and the importance of someone being there for you. She also is really selfless, already ready to help find Francesca's father before Francesca finishes asking. I'm excited to see their friendship develop even more, and they already like each other.
Her interactions with Aaron is great, like her interrupting the stories he is telling during battle and when they had to go, but letting him continue after he gets sad.
It's sweet the connection she has with her horse. First, it's a horse she got from the Dalish clan her uncle was a part of. But also, she named it Da'len after what her uncle used to call her. She says she doesn't know what it means, but it was clearly an affectionate term so she figured it was a good name for the horse.

Can we pre-order the whole thing in one shot somewhere that I'm not seeing? You can susbscribe to the series on comiXology. (However, at this point I believe that will only get you the second and third issues. Subscriptions don't work for issues that already came out.)
Anyway, I am enjoying this so far! Curious to see Francesca's unique magic explored more - especially since the only time we've seen anything like this it's been done by Dalish Keepers. Imagine many Dalish elves would be shocked by a Tevinter mage being able to do the same thing, so I hope that plays out somehow.

Dorian: Solas, that little flare you sometimes do with your staff... You're redirecting ambient energy to your personal aura? Solas: Yes. The effect clears magical energy and creates a minor randomized barrier to impair incoming magic. Dorian: Fascinating. It's a Tevinter technique. I've never seen anyone in this part of the world do it. Solas: The technique is not Tevinter. It is elven. Dorian: Oh! That means we... never mind, then. Solas: But do go on about the wonders of Tevinter magic.
Given how often Tevinter magic techniques draw form ancient elvhen magic, I really can't say I'm that surprised I think what may be more surprising to Dalish Keepers is that a human has such strong connection to nature and magic related to it.

I like Francesca's magic. I want her staff. If she is a companion in the next game, I am stealing it. I plan on playing a dwarf. Still stealing it. I love the idea of a dwarf carrying a staff because it looks cool. It would confuse so many people if (s)he pulled it out in combat and then whacked people with it. the attention to detail is awesome, right down to names and lore-compliant breeds of horses Yeah, we're very into the lore and making sure what we write fits directly into it. We sent reference screen caps of the two breeds of horse to Fernando to make sure they looked right. north-west of Arlathan Forest... Shirallas... the elves who left the Inquisition and from across Thedas en-masse in that Trespasser epilogue slide where they're heading off into a forest... We picked that spot for a different reason. Nenealeus put an estate inside the forest, because (1) no one would bother him there and (2) he really doesn't care about elves or their history. its been a day now and I've become attached, I'm prepared to die for Shirallas Fenris thought highly of him, too...

Another great comic series to satisfy our hunger for Dragon Age. A strong start with all the features that define the setting. Moral ambiguity, conflicted characters, magical mysteries and impressive combat scenarios. Great to see how our newest heroes/protagonists are growing as their mission continues in the long awaited setting of Tevinter. Great job and can't wait for more.
