Emphasis on MAY so remember that. The tweet that made everyone freak out about ALL of cyberpunk 2077 being in first person...well do we actually know who made it? up until then we had been told it would be a first person game but the cut scenes would be in third person. Just recently they had said this (no I don't have a link) so it's weird they would completly change it this close to the release date (they have been working on it for YEARS so having this change when there is less then eight months till release is weird. Also I have a feeling that their romance scenes will make this difficult. Remember they said there would be full nudity even frontal and doing that while in first person would be.... I see more then one country giving it that super high rating (like an A in the american system) and that would mean there would be less stores both online and stores with a physical store would sell them. And while CDPR is pretty good about not giving in to different demands and put their customers first I doubt they would do something that would actually limit how many games they could sell.
Now again I could very well be wrong and I have no "real" proof but it's just some points.

The problem is at least from what I have read from different developers over the years is that its a major undertaking and really needs to be done from the very start of development and requires a whole lot of work almost making the game twice. With those comments I just don't see it being easily undertaken in the last few months of development to prevent loss of sales, it should have been addressed years ago before even the very first E3 showing.

CDPR phuqed up plain and simple. They made a bad decision and it's going to cost them in sales. They should have taken the time and implemented the option for both viewpoints but instead they went with the easier, faster option because they wanted to rush the game out to make money sooner rather than later. Such a shame. They could have had a real gem on their hands.

OK, so I was actually not happy about this decision. In fact I kind of hated it. Being so used to something like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, I greatly enjoyed and preferred seeing my character in third-person.
However, after spending a great deal of time with The Outer Worlds, which has zero options to change to TPS like Fallout 4 does, I feel like I can easily get used to it, so long as the field of view doesn't feel too constrained. I can certainly understand those who actually get much more uncomfortable with this view, but my beef is more just a matter of preference than anything.
I'm just glad that the game will have cutscenes and voiced dialogue and [presumably] a lot of options on how to deal with companions/allies, enemies, etc..

And, to play devil's advocate, I don't think their decision to stick strictly to first person view was a matter of expediency in their development. They probably really did stick to it for how it plays into the augment gameplay aspect of your character builds, particularly things that augment vision.
