Periodically, around December, I feel eager to start Mass Effect again.
"The call of the Milky Way"

So I decided to do a new (final? maybe not) playthrough, with my canon Shepard.

As I succesfully managed to do with the Dragon Age Trilogy (and it was awesome, thrilling, a new experience, I recommend it to everybody), the main rule of this playthrough will be: you have only one life: if I die, it's game over baby, see you next year.
I have already tried this kind of playthroug but failed poorly (around 40% of Mass effect 1). The time has come to try again.

Before I begin, my doubt is: "what difficulty should I play"?

I've completed all Mass Effect games at Insane difficulty, many times, and... it is not really "difficult", but still, in some phases is very "punitive".
A small mistake and you are dead within seconds, and sometimes there is no way to "tactically" recover and fix a very bad situation (as in dragon age).
And there are some enemies that one-shot kill you.

So... what could be a "fair" difficulty for this kind of gameplay?

I've tought:
ME1 -> veteran (as I will start clean with new a profile)
ME2 -> hardcore (even if I think that insanity is doable, if you are very very cautious)
ME3 -> ? maybe hardcore?

So. Started today.

Shepard, male, spacer, survivor, soldier.

I completed eden prime and saved Tali. So far no problem. Kaidan is strong, I think he will be pretty useful in the future.
Always used Kaidan and Ashley, but now I'm gonna switch to Garrus and Wrex.

It's amazing how this game manages to introduce an extraordinary, beautiful LORE in a few hours and yet in a clear and interesting way.. arriving on the Citadel, and then exploring it... masterpiece. After 10 years... still a masterpiece.

Best moment: meeting Wrex, IMO bioware's most charismatic character ever.

Main choiches: Fist was killed, of course. No mercy for that kind of people.

Today I have become a Spectre. Great moment. The best after the Joining in DA.

After that, many subquests on the citadel. Talk. Scan. Relax. Enjoy the setting. Help people, be nice and affable. Yep.
All sub quests resolved peacefully, except for the mission of Dr. Michael. Krogan kapputt.
I also found my favorite armor (heavy, yellow). So stylish:D

I am distributing experience points mainly to armor and assault weapons.

Ready to leave the Citadel, I think I will start with Artemis Tau. With Wrex and Kaidan. Throw is powerful, speciali in tuo è early phase of the game.

I fear the Threasher Maws on Sparta.. finger crossed.

Lot of gameplay during the weekend.

1. Artemis Tau (and Therum main quest) with Kaidan and Wrex: no problem, they are a powerful and balanced squad, the Krogan on Therum was killed in 5 seconds; previously there had been a good fight against Nassana's sister, she fought well but she didn't stand a chance. The Threasher Maws scared the hell out of me a few times but I was lucky. Recruited Liara, not a great character IMO.

2. Armstrong Nebula with Tali and Wrex: so boring repetitive, but no problem. I tought that Tali could be useful (sabotage) but she was nothing special. Too fragile. Garrus is better. No problem, anyway.

3. Argos Rho with Garrus and Wrex: the fight with Tonn Actus was long, brutal and dangerous. Tonn Actus, with all his men already dead, charged me and almost killed me. Close, but not enough.
I will not play Pinnacle Station, awful horrible awful DLC.

4. Gemini Sigma with Wrex and Kaidan: no problem.

5. Attican Beta (and Feros main quest) with Garrus and Wrex. The first time i played mass effect i didn't like Feros very much, but now every time I play it, I like it more and more. Great atmosphere, great choices, maybe no memorable moment but a great rhythm... and they managed to make the Thorian something truly alien, incomprehensible.
Saved the colony, killed Jong, killed Shiala (she could still be indoctrinated, I can't trust her, sorry). Wrex and Garrus excellent performance, I feared the clones of Shiala but everything went smoothly.
Good fight with the geth on Eletania, nothing too dangerous but still, I had to be careful.
Wrex and Garrus are probably the best squad, from level 18-20. Kaidan's biotic powers are stronger and usuful in the beginning but he is a little fragile in some situations.

6. Hades Gamma with Wrex and Garrus. No problem. Killed the biotic leader (Farinata), no compromise with terrorist. I feared the biotics, they knock you down, again and again, and there nothing you can do. But I waited them in the funnel at the entrance of the ship and destroyed them. No problem on the other planets.

7. Kepler Verge with Wrex and Garrus. No problem. Killed Saleon and let Toombs execute ths scientist. Great moment, that's way I like the survivor background.

8. Solar System (moon) with Garrus and Tali. Hard fight, but I was always in control. This time Tali performed well. Garrus too. Very good.

9. Maroon Sea with Garrus and Wrex. Killed the exo-geny scientist. No problem on the MSV Cornucopia (another potentially dangerous place).

10 Back on the Citadel: some shopping, some subquests, some interview. The Citadel. What a sci-fi masterpiece.

The commander on tv tonigh!

Now I'm ready to go with Virmire.

Last consideration. I messed up the romance with Ashley. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
The first dialogue after leaving the Citadel was too harsh. Uff.
Liara is not an option because I consider her an unbearable silly thing. In Me2-Me3 she improves a lot but right now.. no thanks.

So, damn, I'm close to complete a perfect walkthrough (I don't see who could stop me now, except for dreadful mistakes on my part) but I messed with my canon romance of ME1

Luckily, Miranda is the LI of ME2 and ME3.

Maybe is destiny, I had to sacrifice love and passion in order to be invincibile on the battlefield
