Which ME had the toughest combat?

Mass Effect (1) will always hold a special place in my heart. Want to customize your weapons? Check! Level X specter weapons with 3 slots? Check! Wanna customize that armor? Check! 2 equipment slots in said badass looking armor for you AND your squadmates? Check! Wanna equip Tali with a Geth Pulse Rifle with 3 slots? We got you covered! Wanna put Wrex in some Battlemaster armor that looks awesome and is made by Geth Armory? Sure, it makes no sense, but we got it! Ok, so maybe Saren was working with the Geth and breeding an army of Krogan, so the Geth technically did indeed make the armor, but you can get the armor before you discover Virmire. How cool is that? You get badass armor and guns, but if you stand out in the open you will get REKT by spider Geth and Geth snipers, Colossus, Destroyers, Geth with rockets... You get the point. Also, Thresher Maws. Taking them out in foot is just fun, and Hazard conditions can make them even more entertaining. Did I mention Turrets? Never mind the turrets, you had better recognize and respect Krogan in melee range, or suffer the critical mission failure that is just as bad as the one Kaidan got guarding that bomb on Virmire.
Mass 2 had some good enemies too, like *that* vorcha pyro hanging out around the corner on Garrus' recruitment mission. That dude was a pain because getting killed by something with an IQ that low is just..... insulting. Fighting the Collectors was a blast, except for the fact that we got trolled by Harbinger for the whole game and never EVER get the satisfaction of killing him in the entire series. Scions and Praetorians added levels of pressure that gave true satisfaction. For all of my hard work to earn the Geth Pulse rifle on Haestrom, I thought that it was a huge let down.
