Source article - from Cinelinx.com Article is short but I went and put the main point from it: Note: I went and added the Ewan McGregor link (OG article did not have it) just because it makes sense to show this site has gotten rumors right in the past.

I've tryed playng again KotOR just a month or so ago. Just starting it was dramatic, and the solutions I've found didn't help with crashes (expecially with the videos). I'd love a decent remake of this game!

It'll be by EA. Can you trust that it will be better? I don't think so. Moreover, will it make changes potentially reflective of SWTOR? I'd just as soon let it lie. If they have to do something with it, a remaster is the way to go. That would keep the story intact by update it so players on more modern PCs (or even consoles) can play it. Man, I miss it. It's nearly unplayable on Windows 10. It's possible for so hard to handle the controls that I very rarely touch it.

I would love a KOTOR remake. As far as a sequel goes, it depends. I would probably like it if the sequel follows the style of KOTOR and is a single-player rpg. That seems unlikely, though.

Resolution will always be small since it's an old game, but there are mods that might help with that. I never had any issues running steam version myself.
KOTOR2 received a patch not long ago and now it supports widescreen resolutions by default. IIRC you still need to install restored content mod separately.

I rather they not go down the road of a remake. There is no way they are going to be able to capture what made the original as good as it was while at the same time giving players what they expect from modern games. Look at the Final Fantasy VII remake, right now from what I have read they have altered the combat system to be like the more "modern" Final Fantasy games and not to mention the episodic release setup with no announcement of how many $60 games you are going to have to buy to get the full game.
For me I would much prefer just a new game in the universe of Knights of the Old Republic and let everything from the past stories go and start anew.

So, since it's coming from newBioware : an open world and/or multiplayer GaaS ? Cause I'm seriously wondering if the only chance to get a single-player story based ARPG from them isn't the remake way, as sad as it sounds

Cause I'm seriously wondering if the only chance to get a single-player story based ARPG from them isn't the remake way, as sad as it sounds BioWare's game direction doesn't hold steady so I have no idea what they would do. They are always changing things to try and pander to those that criticized the previous releases by making sweeping changes to their games. Just like with the open world approach of Andromeda and Inquisition it was due to the cries of "open world is what makes an RPG" or back with Dragon Age 2 "Give the Dragon Age IP to Bethesda they are the only ones that know how to make a RPG". Even after Mass Effect 1 and the complaints about the combat system they focused more on the combat system in Mass Effect 2 the detriment of exploration. As far as Games as a Service I still have no idea what it really means to what is included or not included in a game. EA once mentioned they had been working on Games as a Service for years and I looked up the date and that even pre-dates Dead Space 2 and the complaints about its microtransactions. I have no seen anything really definitive on what to look for in a game to really see the claims as Games as a Service aside from the fact most of the games now require you to have an account.

Have you tried to temporarily change your desktop scaling from "display" (the default) to "GPU" when you play old games with low resolutions? I have to do that when I play old games like Dark Forces (GOG version) to make sure that I get a proper 4:3 full screen instead of either a tiny window or an incorrect wide screen.

That setting can also be set on some screens directly. I remember on my old rig, I had a 24" 1920x1200 screen, some games didn't handle the 16:10 resolution, only 1920x1080. My screen allowed me to choose between either filling the screen and get a "vertically extended" display (not looking good) or keep the native resolution of the screen with small black bands at the top and bottom of the screen (far better rendering).

I've tried a lot, including a program - Flawless Widescreen - that supposed to fix it. I've tried having Windows run it in on older versions. Was it Windows XP it initially ran on? Not sure I can make Win10 run on acknowledge that far back. I've tried lowering the resolution. In any case, I can play it's just not enjoyable without it being on full screen. I'll live without playing it but I'd rather have the memory of it that EA trying to "improve" it.

May sounds stupid, but do you have an old 4:3 TV you could plug on your computer (S-video or other) ? I know old games (and old DVDs) look better on these old resolutions.

You mean the game runs in a window, no matter what? The Origin version ran without issue on fullscreen, even with the cinematics and all Graphic options on (except that silly one that blurs everything when you use Force Speed). I think I may have put the .exe on compatibility with WinXP and sometimes I had to restart the game to get to the starting screen (a little freeze happened sometimes when I tried to click quick through the intro screens), but otherwise no issues. I had the game run on 1600x1200 as the highest resolution available without tinkering. You can increase it with Flawless Widescreen, but that also gave me some crashes, so at some point I went without it and finished the game no problem.

I decided to go ahead and buy KOTOR on Origin. If it plays well I'll go for KOTOR 2. Really loved those games.

Purchased the Origin version and still doesn't work. Crap. Did you put the .exe in compatibility with Win XP (SP3 I think or whatever is closest, maybe even Win8)? If the game crashes or black screens at startup, you might just exit, check if the process is also closed in Task Manager and launch it again, might even restart Origin. Let it get to the start screen without trying to skip the intro stuff.
Not sure if it had a launcher where you can modify settings outside of the game, but if you find it, try disabling some stuff to see if it makes a difference - most common are Disable Movies, Grass, Frame Buffer effects, Soft Shadows, etc. Might be even as simple as toggling Vsync On or Off. Different hardware might produce different issues. I ran the game perfectly fine with just a Compatibility change, but other PCs might need more.
Check if Win10 Fullscreen Optimizations are on. You might want to disable them for the game.
Edit: another silly thing that sometimes suddenly works - run the game as Administrator.
Sorry for forwarding you to Origin. I had only issues with the Steam version, no matter what settings I used. Then on a whim tried the Origin one since I have a Premier subscription and it worked from the get go. So I think there is a difference since the Steam KOTOR still has issues.

After multiple attempts at updating the game, or just installing, and getting stuck on "finalizing" - it works today. No full screen but it's something.
EDIT: Sort of works. Can't see the bottom of window which makes choices and even setting up my char extremely difficult.

So long as it's not made by BioWare, isn't used as a way to milk more money from the player by EA - then sure, why not.
