Greetings, BSN! Long time, no see.
In the end, there's something about this place and the people here that gets under your skin and stays forever, so after some time off and some friendly cajoling of old friends, I have returned. However, I would like to note that my role here will be changing. While I do still have Admin powers for the sake of organizing the forum structure, pinning threads, and other space-building elements, I will NOT be taking an active role in moderation or disciplinary actions. Those will remain in the wheelhouse of our moderation team. To illustrate this new role, I am simply Curator - a librarian who keeps the Resource Libraries on task and maintains the overall architectural flow of the forum. A member of the moderation team also will keep the Admin powers I bestowed upon them before my year-long sabbatical as they are far more capable than I with plug-ins and bugs/troubleshooting and having two active members with Admin structural powers is important should one need to fill in for the other in that regard.
Speaking of moderation, however, I do return to let you know of some structural changes within the moderation team - addressing the matter of who is actively moderating and who is not and what those roles will look like moving forward.
As such and after much deliberation of logical timelines, the moderation team is enacting the following policy for moderators, effective immediately:
1. Retirement: Moderators who indicate they are leaving the forum or no longer wish to be a moderator will be placed into a Champion role as their "retirement" and acknowledgement of their service to the forum. This will happen at the time they let us know of their wishes. They will no longer have moderation powers and will be removed from the Staff page.
2. Farewell/Going on Break: Sometimes moderators may make a somewhat ambiguous post in the Mod Cave about taking a break for real life issues or other reasons, and often a timeline of potential return is not given. In this scenario, their moderation powers will be temporarily revoked but they will still maintain access to the Mod Cave to alert us upon their return, at which point reinstatement will be discussed if they wish to return to the moderation team. The Staff page will recognize them as On Hiatus. If they have not been heard from in 6 months, a PM/email will be sent to check on them. At 12 months, if still no word, they will be retired to Champion status and no longer considered as part of the active moderation team.
3. MIA: If a moderator says nothing of leaving and is discovered to have been inactive on the forum (no posts or "likes" to posts) for 3 months, moderation powers will be temporarily revoked but they will still maintain access to the Mod Cave and a PM/email will be sent to check on them. If there is no response after 6 months, the Farewell/Going on Break procedures will begin.
These changes are to ensure that the Staff page and current roles of the moderation team accurately reflect the activity level of who is available to help when needed and who is on hiatus or officially retired. This also ensures that moderation powers aren't floating around on accounts whose activity level has come into question.
The current list of today's changes enacted:
Retired/Champion:
CrutchCricket
Draining Dragon
Grinch
On Hiatus:
Cyonan
Gecko
Active Moderators:
ArcadiaGrey
DragonKingReborn
mousestalker
regack
SofaJockey
Active Support Staff:
