So in an exercise of... exercise, I've recently adopted a new strategy to make my daily walk/exercise a little more interesting. Since I'm more or less just taking a walk around the same neighborhood, again and again, I approach each intersection, and roll some virtual dice using the Google Dice Roller. I've set some basic rules, where if I take the same path 3 times in a row, it gets removed from the pool of options, and when returning home again, I'm allowed to exclude the directions that don't lead back home. This has taken me on some paths that I normally wouldn't choose, and while I know everything in the area where I live, it has introduced a bit of chaotic fun into the "get out for a daily stroll" routine. Hope you're all not going stir crazy

And at the very least it gives your daily stroll some variety so that you're not passing by the same tree 4x a day. I'm gonna try that starting tomorrow! I've got a question though, how does the roll of the dice relate to or dictate which direction you go? I mean it's not like flipping a coin and saying "heads I go left, or tails I go right".....It sounds a little more complicated. Could you please expand on that idea, please? I'm interested in hearing about it. Thank you.

regack , I have it on expert authority that you need a Siberian Husky.
My expert advisor tells me that she β¦ er, I mean a Husky β¦ will dutifully take you on walks β¦ at least twice a day, never picking the same route.
And when she, er, I mean when you have gone far enough, the Husky will then take you home.
After a period of time, she will train you, er, I mean show you β¦ the joys of running the route, especially in the winter and most especially when there is snow on the ground.
And if you live where there is no snow, then my Husky friend says you need to move β¦ for health reasons, of course.

I mean it's not like flipping a coin and saying "heads I go left, or tails I go right".....It sounds a little more complicated. Could you please expand on that idea, please? I'm interested in hearing about it. Thank you. Sure, it depends on the size of the intersection. A couple of simple examples, but I do change it up, introducing my own additional randomness. 4-Way intersection : 8-sided die 1-2 (turn around and go back the way I came) 3-4 (turn right) 5-6 (go forward) 7-8 (turn left) 3-way intersections I'll use the 6-sided die, and there's a 5-way intersection, so I used the 10-sided one. At some points I draw the line and don't want to go that direction, so I'll just eliminate one of the options and pretend it's a smaller intersection than it is. Like a 4-way where turning right will put me on the 4-lane road... I'll just take the turn-right option off the table and turn it into a 3-way intersection instead.

Reg, I would say you need a Golden Retriever....a generally all around great pet; though I have to admit, The Grinch has a point about Huskies and snow. Golden Retrievers are....well, I am extremely biased. But still, the advice is sound: you need yourself a dog. Oh, and thanks for the reply about your walking adventures. sounds like fun. I should give it a try.

We've done that before (put harness on our cat)....Only because he loves being outside and he has a tendency to escape our property. THough we found out that a harness can hurt a cat (long story) so we decided against it. Now we just have hundreds of feet of rolled up chicken wire strung along the tops of all our fences. Even still, the odd time....if there's another cat around, he finds ways to pull a Houdini.

If you're going to go outside with a cat, the trick is to adapt to the cat's lifestyle, not the other way around. My cat likes to play hide-and-seek, for instance. (He also enjoys trespassing, but while this is legal for cats, that doesn't carry over to their humans.)

Today I went shopping with my military gas mask, boy am I glad that I have one. People in the mall were really cornered about contracting the virus, they were shuffling around fast and moved around hastily to make the trip as short as possible, everyone was afraid of getting too close to one another. With absolute zero chance of contracting it I was super relaxed and actually enjoyed that trip. Once you are used to the breathing resistance its really not that bad, and the protection you get with a P3 active charcoal filter is, according to the manufacturer, 99,95%. Yeah I earned a couple mildly shocked looks, running around like in the Metro game series, or like in world war one during a gas raid, but who cares, really. Results matter.

I'd go dressed up as a Stormtrooper if I could; a friend of mine has actually done that. He ordered the molds from California and then put it all together himself. He also has a Rebel pilot and TIE pilot costume. I'd go out just to walk around. That's one reason I wanted to make my own custom lightsaber earlier....I wanted to dress up and go out just to walk around. Maybe have people ask me how I made it or where I got it from.....But it would be cool just to get dressed up in a costume like that and walk around.

You're just asking for a rash with that thing. I wore a medical mask the other day to pick up some supplies and about died of heat stroke. It may still be winter a lot of places but it's been summer-like here. I'm already claustrophobic with anything around my face but add in being overheated the entire time and it was a miserable trip overall. At least the store had TP.

It's a sad thing but it has taken this to at least temporarily clue governments and society into how vulnerable the aged are in long term care facilities. A majority of deaths here in Canada have occurred in these places and it has devastated a few facilities.
The staff, do a very difficult job but are paid poorly and in some instance poorly trained for something like this.
Seeing the stony faced politicians bemoan how tragic this is when they sat on their fat asses and ignored the aged for so long is revolting.
When all of this is over it will merely blow over and things will change only marginally.

You're just asking for a rash with that thing. I served in the NBC unit, we wore those masks for up to 8 hours straight / day, doing decontamination and NBC drills (Yes, also biological warfare drills). Never got a rash, and got quite used to wearing it. The contact surface is very large and smooth so you don't get any kind of chafing, unlike those paper masks with relatively rough sharp and small surfaces and strings that dig into the skin. A military protection mask is quite comfortable to wear, unless its a very hot summer day.

Wow. I just read that people who had even mild cases suffer from lung tissue damage so severe that they will likely need treatment for the rest of their lives. The article said that doctors checked x-rays of recovered people and at first they thought they mixed them up with pics from still infected people. The virus does deep lung tissue damage unlike any other pneumonia where the lung recovers nearly to 100%. Even though they feel really good now, several divers' lung damage was so extensive that they are no longer allowed to do ANY diving at all, the risk of a diving accident and health issues would be way too great. And those were cases with only mild fever and no hospitalization. Man, if that's true its MUCH worse than I thought.

Wow. I just read that people who had even mild cases suffer from lung tissue damage so severe that they will likely need treatment for the rest of their lives. If that is true, and Covid becomes a seasonally recurring thing like the normal flu... ugh.
In other news, I'm a bit pissed now. I really should not wonder as the local federal goverment has a penchant for testing stuff before it is introduced elswhere. But prescribing masks if there is no guaranteed or safe way to get them as a tradeoff for lifting other restrictions is a rather dumb idea, especially for those who have no tools nor material to make D-I-Y ones. I see myself frantically running around the city hunting for stuff (so much about limiting exposure) and then finally running into a police patrol, first arguing if that scarf slipping from my nose again constitutes a breach of the regulation and then fining my butt.

So it's been a week for me now since I was tested positive for Covid-19. It took two more days for the test results to come through, whereas I've been having symptoms a bit earlier. My estimate is that I had around 5 days of distinctive symptoms, 2 more days of just the aftermath. I guess I was one of the lucky people. I only had very mild symptoms, the more annoying ones being the loss of smell and taste for three days. Honestly, I could not distinguish between salty and sweet at some point, it was pretty crazy. Other than that, I only felt that I couldn't draw a deep breath for a few days, like there was something heavy sitting on my chest - but only if I really made the effort, otherwise I didn't really feel anything. Additionally, just one day of very mild fever for me, no cough whatsoever. Now I'll be struggling with quarantine for another week, and honestly, it's taking its toll. Before that I also didn't go anywhere, but at least I could take walks whenever I wanted to and I made frequent use of that. Now I only have the house and a big garden, and even those already feel like a prison to me. But still I feel kinda bad complaining, I know that it could have been way worse. Stay safe everyone!
