Proboards put out a message here. Useful links for ACCURATE information from that post are the following: WHOCDCECDCThe overall impression I've gotten is this has hit nearly all industries and resulted in massive unemployment. Most places are urging you to self isolate to avoid catching it or avoid spreading it, as symptoms appear similar to the flu. But what's a rough afternoon for you may be death for another. Them's the stakes. They also don't want you to come to the hospital, and tests are limited as of this posting, so please call the following hotlines if you feel you have symptoms to be triaged by phone. USA: Phone Numbers for State and Local Health DepartmentsEurope: National Information Resources for COVID 19
I know this site can be quiet and maybe we don't need another place to talk for COVID 19, but this is one of only two places I generally hang out online. I am in the medical profession, and although I won't be deployed, as it were, until May, my heart goes out to all of the medical professionals risking their lives in hospitals right now. Catch up with old friends by phone or letter. Dust off an old hobby or your resume. Start your new exercise at home routine. Or pull out your favorite Bioware game and save the world. If there are any other resources (even memes to make you laugh) that you think you want to share, feel free to reply. Let's be kind to each other, folks. A bit of humor from the Daily Show from March 11th PS: Let's generally keep this to support, helpful, venting sorts of posts. Conspiracy theories and political infighting? I get enough of those from headlines.

I am not currently affected in any way that makes life difficult. My classes went online only and my hubs is working from home and not likely to be laid off. However, I will take a contract for a job in late April or Early May that will put me in direct contact with potential COVID positive patients. And due to all the Non Essential Medical themed jobs that have been closed right now, I will be facing more competition for a smaller pile of jobs. My dog walker says my household is her only client and I won't cancel her. I will trim other areas of my budget and it's not like we're going out to resturants right now

Here in Austria we've been in full lockdown for 1 week now, 3 more to go. That means I can only leave the house to get either medicine or groceries from the nearest place, I cannot drive to another town. Officials are very strict about that quarantine.
I do home office but to be honest, not much is going on since the entire industry has taken a big hit. I'll probably keep my job since the company I work for get´s monetary aid from the government (at least for now) and my position is essential.
I get my food delivered to the door, so no need to risk my health getting groceries in the shop, especially since I live right in the current epicenter of infections.
Problem is I have no friends at all and I cannot visit my family members, which I rarely speak to even in normal circumstances. I basically feel like I'm living on the back of the moon, totally isolated in the dark, my already low mood has degraded a lot in the last couple days, I'm sad, bored and lonely, and yet I'm still better off than a lot of people who are sick fighting the virus.
Oh boy.

It is safe to go on your front porch, if you have one. I did that earlier and it was quite pleasant. Trying to do that more since hubs commented yesterday he hadn't left the house in a week. I wish the USA would be more strict. I was wondering if there were going to be masks when I start my job in May or if it's still going to be "bring your bandanna from home" day

Yeah I know, but ironically I have no desire to go outside. Today I walked around on my front porch and that simply did not evoke any feelings at all. I've been battling depression before all this, and the current situation does not help things. I was wondering if there were going to be masks when I start my job in May or if it's still going to be "bring your bandanna from home" day It does help some, but not much. Certainly not to contract it, but it traps or slows down coughing and the air you exhale when talking, so it helps others a little. Its better than nothing.

Have definitely been affected. My business supplies organisers and exhibitors at events, which were the first thing to tank when this became a problem for my country. Today we enter 4 weeks (minimum) of lockdown of everything except essential services. The silver lining of that cataclysmic news is that it might make the end of this thing appear sooner. If we knock it down now, by the end of the 4 weeks, domestically at least, things might have a chance to starting improving, or even returning to something resembling "normal". The borders will still be closed, which means tourism is still a long way from recovering. However, government subsidies have begun arriving (including for my company which means I don't have to get a mortgage to pay my staff ), so things are not as stressful as they were last week, that's for sure. My family are all still healthy, so we just need to endure each other for 4 weeks

Yes, lockdowns here like most places.
As I work in an "essential" industry, I will still be at work (or will have to move to home office if someone gets infected here). Luckily, even though schools has been closed (I have 2 young children), their usual care places are still running unless the government decides to can that. The amount of children attending these centers has dropped dramatically. Husband is not so lucky, he works for a major airline here, and with tourism and travel taking an obvious hit, his work hours will be reduced to an undetermined number as of yet. So hopefully, sooner rather than later, this crisis will be over. For my work, however, business has been skyrocketing due to all the panic buyers.

Most definitely affected, but to varying degrees - mostly "first world problems" inconvenience level at this point, stuff I don't really want to complain about, given that some people have lost their livelihood entirely. My workplace has gone 100% Telework * *Except for those of us who have to go into the office

I'm affected in that I have to be very careful because I have family that has age, immune system and respiratory "pre-conditions."
I can't afford to contaminate or infect them, they would be at very high risk if they contracted COVID-19.
But they also rely on me to take care of things they can no longer do for themselves.

Yeah I know that, my mother has severe chronic lung problems from a very bad case of pneumonia some years ago and I have to partially take care of her. It was super hard enough to even convince her that the virus is real and dangerous and that she should not be seeing friends or family. I don't care much about me getting sick, I'd probably survive it, but I don't want my mother to contract it as it would be very dangerous for her. I am very worried.

Most personal effect to me has been the closure and delay of a few movies that I was looking forward to...even a documentary in IMAX of all things. That and work has been a nightmare and a half and getting the supplies we need to ride this thing out if it gets bad or I have to self quarantine has been an adventure.
That and the existential fear that *mutters something vague about politics for the next minute* which will just make things worse.
Honestly don't even really have an fear of getting it, what happens, will happen.

Yeah I suffer from high blood pressuer and my mum's a smoker so is als ovulnerable should she get infected But we have been extermely careful and we don't go out very often anyway. She belongs to a line dancing club and she's encouraged them to cancel everything until this blows over which is a smart move tbh.

Yeah other than potentially my nwe PC that I ordered last week might be delayed I don't think there's anyhing tha twill directly affect me. Though I think mail order businesses aer probably the only things that will be left alone as without them the whole world will come to a standstill. As people will have to rely on them moer than ever what with the self isolation protocols coming into effect.

Whole office is telecommuting. Other than that, just living on takeout and chatting with family on WhatsApp. May need to go to the store for batteries.
I can't seem to find a transcript, but did Dr Birx at the WH press conference tonight say this damn virus has a 10 week cycle?

I'm sad, bored and lonely,
If you lived closer, you could always mow my backyard for me. It's supposed to rain again this week so next time the sun comes out it's gonna sprout big time.
As for effects.....yep. We just got the "stay home" order today though my work is deemed an "essential" business since one of our customers is a Red Cross supplier. We will be staying open, though I can choose to work from home if I want. We're somewhat short-handed atm so I will probably continue to go in at least another week or two. We are closed on Fridays for the next several weeks. Some business is decreasing and/or going away due to the market conditions. We already had some decreased business due to the Boeing 737 fiasco which led to some layoffs a couple weeks ago.
As for personal, not affected much other than stock outs at the grocery stores which is more an annoyance than anything critical. At least until I need more TP.
I definitely don't want my mom going out and about, not even to pick up the mail at the Post Office so that basically means more errands for me. But, it's worth it since she's at potential high risk while I am not.

She was describing the outbreaks in different part of the US, and the rest of world, to explain why some places have different infection/detection rates, aside from because of testing. Basically New York and Washington state were some weeks after Italy, which was some weeks after China, etc. Different parts of the US would start having similar cycles in the coming weeks. I hope I misheard her. P.S. Found the quote: www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/donald-trump-coronavirus-task-force-briefing-transcript-march-23

But you're talking time of emergence through - some measure of - control, right?

Anyway, apparently my fellow kiwis have their priorities in order. People are demanding to know whether or not liquor stores are classified as "essential services" and are asking the question seriously. Particularly so in my part of town because there is a licensing trust in action, meaning supermarkets can't sell beer and wine, so literally the only place to get booze is a licensed - specialised - liquor store. Thoughts and prayers, everyone. Thoughts and prayers.
