I'm not understanding why the CDC would remove people 65 and older as a high risk catagory.

There has been a steep increase in Covid19 cases around here, the numbers are by far not very high but the rate is concerning, especially considering there are no counter measures at all - nothing to keep it from spreading. People here no longer have to wear masks, social distancing has been thrown out of the window as well and another lockdown is out of the question. People seem only to be concerned about spending a pleasant holiday on some beach, fuck the rest.
A few schools with Covid19 cases came to their senses and either temporarily closed down or have made face masks mandatory again.

So the government is sending out automated texts and phone calls about the whole covid thing. The work phone has been calling constantly for the last 15 minutes (we are literally answering and hanging up constantly) because we have a few numbers associated with the business. Who do I report this harassment to? If anyone on the opposite side of the world to me sees a desk.phone floating around in the atmosphere above them, you know why.

And now back to increased lockdown in my suburb (and others locally, not statewide) for 4 weeks, with 4 valid reasons to leave home. One of which is work, which means I'll still be going as usual until something changes. Let the panic buying increase again

"CDC officials shared data with the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices that showed, compared with white Americans, coronavirus hospitalization rates were 4 times higher for Hispanics, 4.5 times higher for Black people, and 5.5 higher for American Indians and Alaska Natives. A recent study in the Atlanta area suggested that being Black was as large a risk for hospitalization as having diabetes, being a smoker or being obese." I can never trust journalists, since they almost always change the meaning, or build a new meaning, from selected quotes or misrepresented facts, always to nurture their narrative or to protect their narrative. So I can't read anything like this without wondering what the facts or statistics really said. What is the real meaning behind a phrase like "hospitalization rates"? Also, we already know that smokers are less hospitalized - although more likely to die. I also have in mind a similar claim in Britain, which was exaggerated because they used an outdated census and also failed to consider that other variables like diabetes, heart disease and obesity were also more prolific. But never mind all that for now, because there's another point I wanted to make: How food habits, age and skin pigmentation relate to something that in turn probably relates to vulnerability to Covid19: Vitamin D deficit. Old people lose their ability to generate D. Dark skinned individuals living in the north generate less D (this is btw the reason why white skin evolved). People having less fish in their diet get less D. People having less meat, less fatty meat, in their diet get less D. Now, before everyone goes out and overdose on vitamin D, keep in mind that you actually can overdose on vitamin D!And, oh yeah, almost forgot, there's also the part of that you can get vitamin D deficit by spending all your time indoors.

Illinois seems to be doing well: New cases over the last 30 days A bit spiky, probably due to the riots starting around Memorial Day (you can't tell me rioters were social distancing) That's the number of deaths in the last 30 days

I guess we're waiting to see the effect of the new cases (demographics, hospitalization, recovery, etc) to see if the opening can continue. I mean, if everyone just gets a fever and recovers at home after a week then maybe we're fine. Saw a news report out of a Texas hospital yesterday that showed doctors replacing someone's breathing tube. The tube they removed was covered in organic matter from virus infected lungs. Man I don't want that shit. For anyone that actually wants to see this...

I read a report a month or so back that said even "mild cases that fully recover show signs of significant and permanent respiratory damage". I did try and find it for link purposes before posting but there is just so damn much being written about this thing in the past month. Will try again later in the day, though.

There was that case of a pair of Italian divers, they got a very mild case of Covid with barely any fever but after they were healthy and feeling well again it turned out their lungs are so damaged they have to forfeit their hobby. They did not notice any ill effects during normal daily routine but during sports they experienced a severe shortness of breath.

That wasn't the specific example I was recalling, but it serves well enough. Previously - you'd have to assume - super-fit people now hobbled in their life because of a 'mild' case.

I think most people would (or do) not even realize the damage, the damage in light cases seems to be only noticeable during physical exercise. I'm an athlete, I rely heavily on the valsalva maneuver for which you need good lungs to perform it correctly. If I ran out of breath or got coughing fits from doing it I would have to quit lifting. I would not like that at all.

My colleagues and I have returned to the office. The safety measures include masks (1 mask per employee) and antiseptic (1 bottle), though no one, except the director, is wearing the former inside the office. For some reason, two of my colleagues think that I had COVID in February (2 months before the lockdown) and infected them. It was just a common cold as I was perfectly capable to do my job (tech support).

Luckily, my office hasn't said anything about people having to go back to the office yet. What is the point of returning to the office if you can work safely from home? I wish everyone could.

I could work from home, but it would be a lot more difficult and it'd be like running a circus amongst 5 other people whilst performing brain surgery

Exactly this. Working from home should be the new standard, at least until the bug really dies down. Or create a rotating roster so that not all have to be at the office the same time.
