Well, I did it, I completed Mass Effect 3, with all the DLCs. Leviathan, Omega, Citadel. But I couldn't do it with the original game.
In 2012 I was very disgusted with ME3. The noticeable drop in the writing quality made ME3 a disjointed experience for me. The game has some geat moments, but I couldn't overlook some of its deepest flaws, especially the endings. This was made even worse with BW's response to it all at that time.
So, I buried myself in MP (and it was the best MP experience I had in gaming until now!), and accumulated +1000 hours on it. Ocasionally I tried to play SP, but couldn't get through Mars. I couldn't bother with all the bad writing. I didn't buy the DLCs as well, because I totally disagree with this business model.
Time passed by, and in 2019 I discovered some beautiful mods for ME3SP. Expanded Priority Earth, Galaxy Map Overhaul, High-Res Textures, Better Ending mods, Tali's face and romance mods etc. So I finally installed it all (a hefty 60 gbs worth of mods!), and kicked The Reapers ass to oblivion. To finish it all I played Citadel DLC after destroying the Reapers. Had my party, got everyone drunk (except Jack, who would thought...), and went to The Normandy again, to continue Shepard's journey.
The veridict? The game is good now. Not great mind you, good. It still has Kai Leng's bullshit, It still goes to the Organic vs Synthetic bullshit, it still has the nightmarish mission track and journal. I would change the entire third act, even make a Mass Effect 3, part two. But at least I can finally make peace with this game, and put it to rest, until some crazy modder makes an complete overhaul or BW decide to remaster or remake the trilogy.

I feel your pain my friend... Sadly I played the OT on consoles so I had no way to improve the travesty. i just recently discovered Priority Earth Overhaul, due to me not being able to use mods for ME I dont seek them out. But I'll tell you what, when I saw the trailer showcasing the changes to the final beam charge, with Harbinger screaming his taunts, with the Shadow Broker song playing...I am not ashamed to admit I jumped from my chair and cried out in a mix of anger and excitement, on the verge of tears of frustration. Because for that moment that is exactly what I wanted. Also the MEHEM, I feel like that ending was the most no brainer decision of all time, people on these forums don't like it because it robs them of their choice, but frankly it's the most logical ending the game can have, and if it wasn't for 2 guys who thought they were cute thats probably the ending we would have gotten. Which would have been a better ending in the long run for the sake of the franchise. You are right, those two mods alone, make a terrible game way better than it has any right to be. It is unfortunate that those mods cannot actually fix the problems ME3 created. So I am glad someone is able to find peace with this game and put it to bed, alas, I am forever cursed, because in the back of my mind, I know the mods aren't canon, and ME is still forever damaged by the "real" course of events. So sadly for me, the pain is ever lasting. But god speed to you, for finally putting it behind you. Gods knows I wish I could.

So sadly for me, the pain is ever lasting. But god speed to you, for finally putting it behind you. Gods knows I wish I could. I feel you. I had ME3 installed in my hard drive since 2012, exclusively for MP. The mods were good enough that, when I finished it, I could finally uninstall it. I know this sound contradictory, but I really made my peace.
If or when BW do a trilogy remaster, I hope they will change ME3 the most. Changing the timeline would be great as well, ME2 happening before ME1. The storyline flow would be much better:
ME2: Shepard, an alliance soldier, is investigating The Collectors abductions. Fed up with Alliance bureaucracy, he's approached by Cerberus to form a team and discover what's really happening. The story happens as usual. In the end you learn about the Reapers.
ME1: Shepard gives the information he learned in ME2 to The Council. His exploits grant him Spectre status. Saren is the main antagonist. Here we are presented with much more diplomacy and exploration, making alliances and enemies depending on our choices, giving more backstory on the major and minor races struggles, perhaps even missions on the Elcor/Hanar/Volus homeworlds. The finale is the same, battling Saren, but without his nonsensical link with Sovereign, its demise being the struggle of the fleet you unified during the game.
ME3: NO crucible. NO Kai Leng. NO Cerberus Empire. Indoctrination takes a huge influence on the game, linked to the Reputation system. If you don't complete side missions and increase morale, it starts corrupting Shepard, initially taking away dialogue choices and opportunities of better outcomes. If you are completely indoctrinated, in the final battle you betray your allies and its a premature game over (worst ending). The Reapers destruction comes from discovering a way to weaponize mass relays, sacrifing part of the unified fleet, the solar system, and your allies if not loyal (for example, Liara would die on Thessia staying behind to guarantee its mass relay destruction, and so on). Mission order would have a huge impact as well, sacrificing some planets and assets early or late in the game would change alliances and grievances. The final battle would be after discovering The Keepers secrets and controlling the Citadel to cause a chain reaction throughout the surviving relays, destroying the Reapers.
The only ending Shepard would survive would envolve playing the entire trilogy making all the right choices, with maximum war assets, minimum indoctrination, all allies alive and loyal, making it a very hard but very satisfying finale for the completionist.

I only played on PS3 and never got around to getting it on PC. How would you rate your experience with all of those mods installed? I watched some online and MEHEM was exactly what the ending really needed. Also if possible, could you write a list of all the mods? My brother got a new PC so I might coerce him in to letting me use it so I would just buy the OT on there but with all the ME3 mods.

I always do the Citadel party after the endings now. The tone of the party just fits perfectly as an upbeat epilogue and the actual end with the hung over morning after and then the final scene where they all get back onto the ship and fly off is just brilliant. And Deager did a bang on jobediting the sound files, so there are no anachronisms left in the dialogue. Perfect. It's been a few years since I played through the trilogy so I haven't tried some of the alter mods but the Extended Galaxy Map mod was also brilliant, even back then. It just adds so much more depth to the game. The only thing I am dreading a little for my next playthrough is that I'll probably have to spend another week or so just sifting through all the enw and updated mods, re-downloading, finding the correct install order and fixes for incompatibilities and stuff. But in the end, it was well worth the effort last time and I am sure it will be again. Kudos to the modders that stick with it even years later.
EDIT: I actually found my post here on BSN after finishing that last modded playthrough. I remember writing that post. What a beautiful experience that PT was.

But at least I can finally make peace with this game, and put it to rest, until some crazy modder makes an complete overhaul or BW decide to remaster or remake the trilogy. I am in the same boat as you. I had never played any ME3 DLCs besides From Ashes. Tonight, I finished my first trilogy playthrough since 2013, with all DLCs this time. I added lots of mods like EGM, Ark, Spectre, Variety, Priority Earth Overhaul Mod, JAM for the ending, and ALOT of course. Big kudos to them for adding so much content to the game, the hard work really shows and improves the game. I just finished the ending, will do the Citadel DLC tomorrow thanks to CEM. I feel ... empty. During my run to the beam and conversation with TIM, I felt drained. Of course, part of me always wished Priority Earth was more like the Suicide Mission, where your heart raced and the epicness was too much to handle at times. As the Crucible activated, that emptiness turned into the bittersweet feeling from the ending, causing me to smile and reflect on the trilogy as a whole. What a journey I went through with these characters and this galaxy. Of course, each game had its flaws. ME1 had its wonky gameplay, ME2 lacked focus on the Reaper threat, and ME3 had its plotholes and inconsistencies (sure Thane, run to Kai Leng and his sword .) But such is life, nothing is perfect. Not humans, not Bioware. It can be easy to fixate on the parts that were not executed as well, but looking at this trilogy as a whole, they did a heck of a lot more right than wrong. The world building and exploration of Mass Effect 1, the characters and Suicide Mission of ME2, the payoff of the Genophage and Geth/Quarian arcs in ME3, as well as the best gameplay of the series. Special mention to the beautiful soundtrack as well! For me, this trilogy remains one of the most unique and emotional games out there, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. To quote my Shepard talking to Miranda in ME3, "I'll always want you in my life". Off to party with my friends in the Citadel DLC, one last time. Farewell, Mass Effect. Thank you for the lifetime of memories. Until the next playthrough ...
