Sudarshan Ramani @razrroman So about the name Eivor, I looked online and it seems to be exclusively a female name. Were there instances of it being used unisex historically?
Darby McDevitt @darbymcdevitt There is a reason for everything, my friend. You will have to play to see.
My guess, they wanted to make a female protagonist but the higher ups said no so they "compromised".
Going by what I've read online from people coming from Sweden/Norway/Iceland, it's like playing a dude called Margaret.

i have been keeping up with this thread, I just haven't had a chance to respond. I spent 2 1/2 hours watching that painting being made. It's a very nice painting. I'll probably pre-order the gold edition for the season pass and call it good. I'll put my other comments in the general AC thread.
Thank you to everyone who keeps this thread updated with news and info

It's a case of a boy being named Sue. If you play a lad you eventually meet your papa in a pub and give him a good smacking for it.
"My name is Sue, how do you do? Now you gonna die"
"Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise he come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear. But I busted a chair right across his teeth and we crashed through the wall and into the street. kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer"

This image has a twin...and there is a lack of beard on this one.
I'm guessing this is some kinda inside joke I'm missing...?
LOL first time I saw it I didn't even notice that the guy was leaping off another guys shield!!!!!
I have no idea what the insider joke maybe but whilst it looks impressive I'd say it is neither practical or effective, you'd make a nice target for a throwing axe or bow.
Saadh Sam @samsaadh @ashrafaismail will we be able to run around in the loading screen like in Origins and Black Flag?
Ashraf Ismail @ashrafaismail yes

Kevin Klayer @kevinmjkid12345 @ashrafaismail Can we visit Stonehenge in #AssassinsCreedValhalla ???
Ashraf Ismail @ashrafaismail oh, can you ever!
If we don't get a free ability point for doing that I will be disappoint.

Ehh...this is a next gen title? I'm sorry but these screens look last gen. They don't come close to RDR 2, or even Rise of the Tomb Raider.

But considering how the PS5 and XSX are going to practically do away with loading screens due to their capabilities, what’s really the point? I guess it’ll be nice for the XB1 and PS4 versions.

These aren't screenshots, way too much Photoshop is happening in them for that. You can clearly see the paint brushes and copy-pasted elements with these two.

I'm excited for the new world, characters and features. It sounds like its going to be a lot of fun.
I'm bummed, but unsurprised, that not even AC bothers to go for historical accuracy in games. The stupid costumes; armor and weapons; and the eye-popping anachronisms really aggravate me. I realize that stuff doesn't even register with most gamers, but it's impossible to not see if you are in the know. Historical clothing, armor and weapons are nearly always more fascinating and awesome than what Hollywood/game devs invent, regardless of setting. I just can't understand why this series, of all series, won't embrace more historically accurate visuals.
Anyway, I'm sure it will be a very fun game into which I'll pour unseemly numbers of hours. I've been ready for a new game for a very long time. This can't arrive soon enough.

And in case it was missed, it looks like the rope-dart (or maybe a grapple-dart) returns in this game too.
Was not that big of a fan of the rope dart but it was fun in AC3 to string people up in the trees!!!!!
Playing AC3 Remaster I used it the needed amount in the one mission and thats it.. It works but in AC games I am more in favour of sneak-assasinations if necessary, or poison. I love poison when it spreads.. if necessary

Bring back the berserk darts that made the guards attack each other, it was effective and bloody funny!!!!!!

I think it was things like that I was missing in Odyssey. More then just using weapons and maiming people. Smoke bombs were another thing I enjoyed using too. For me Syndicate had the right amount of Assassin Kit for the lack of a better term for there could be variety as well.
I was reading on my feed that they are going to be altering the leveling system to be more of a power system so my guess is that it would be more like Destiny's level system where the gear and skills you have is what increases your level instead of grinding experience alone. That is something I think would fit better with my view on AC, but I know there are going to be people that disagree.
The more I am seeing for Valhalla the more intrigued I am by it unlike Origins and Odyssey.

Destiny's system is an item level gating system (aka ilvl or ilevel) that has been around for decades in MMOs as a way to train the "hamsters" into grinding raids in a linear fashion. It's worst than Origins/Odyssey level gating system, a item power system means you have to grind gears to raise it up, not just character levels.
Origins/Odyssey level system main issue is that they designed the game like a level zoned MMORPG which just exist to force linearity in an "open world" map. It force you to rush to max level so you can play the game like you want. That's what they need to fix: the linearity of their level gating. Switching to a power gating system isn't going to fix it at all, unless they have a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 are just optional bosses/challenges and the game storyline max at power 2 or 3.

I finished Black Flag recently, and the rope-dart was easily the least useful weapon in our toolset. Sure, it fun the odd time to string the odd lone guard up in a tree, but it was so inefficient compared to other methods. I'm hoping they know that by now and it'll be addressed.
