I remember someone in the bar on the Nexus announcing a slam poetry contest but I don't recall actually getting to hear any slam poetry.

There are actually four or so different stages to that.
But it seems somewhat bugged, in four playthroughs I only got the second stage to trigger once, and never the remaining ones after that.

I got lucky one PT, I think you need to prioritise going to the Vortex as soon as you return to the Nexus every time. They still don't trigger every time but that seemed to be what worked for me. Otherwise I think the other conversations with other squad mates etc. are prioritised over them. A guess but that seemed to be what worked for me.
I have heard the intro buy the bald woman, the Human guy doing the Shanxi Boys song, The Turian doing a poem and an Angaran female doing a poem.
