I've been planning another replay of the trilogy, plus Andromeda (which I haven't played), and I was considering using Adept because that would be a new experience. I recall years ago reading about how great the Adept is in ME3. But my recent research has revealed a whole lot of complaints about it. Like how Singularity sucks compared to the Multiplayer version, and the Sentinel is a "better Adept", and that there is nothing unique about the class. This is quite disappointing, but before scrapping this plan, I'd like to know if there are any significant disagreements with these opinions.

I would say the classes in ME2 and ME3 are pretty well balanced. The adept might not be #1, but I have beaten the game several times playing one.

Considering that the vast majority of enemies you'll face in ME3 and MEA do not have shields (unless when using mods), Adepts are actually pretty powerful for their crowd control powers alone.

The Adept is generally fine in ME3; all classes can steamroll through the campaign.
The single-player version of Singularity is not as good as the multiplayer version, in my opinion. But that is because the multiplayer version was buffed tremendously (in a patch?) and the changes were not ported to single player.
Personally, I dislike the ME3 Adept as it find it rather underwhelming. As for the sentiment that the ME3 Sentinel is a better adept than the ME3 Adept... I generally agree with that sentiment. While the Adept has Pull and Singularity for easy dismantling of unshielded enemies -- while the Sentinel does not -- you can also run around with Javik (Pull) and Liara (Singularity) for about 90% of the game, meaning you rarely need to use your Pull/Singularity. That just means you end up using Throw most of the time, or Warp + Throw for armored/shielded enemies, something the Sentinel can also do.
Sentinel also has both Overload for removing anti-shields and Tech Armor for damage reduction, while the Adept would need to choose either Energy Drain or Fortification/Barrier/Defense Matrix if you want to compensate for a class "weakness".
But that is just my personal opinion. You might like the class more than I do. You can focus on using different powers if you want to make it more unique from the Sentinel, even if that may (or may not) sacrifice it's stronger builds.
the ME3 Adept's main three powers will be: - Pull or Singularity (I usually end up using Pull instead of Singularity) for lifting enemies on health - Warp for armor/shields/barrier priming - Throw for detonating
You can also use Cluster Grenades as a fourth power, but they are a limited resource (best used against boss-type characters, usually after priming with Warp), and you may find that you forget you even have them.

My recommendation is that if you haven't played the class, you should go ahead and do so. That said, it isn't necessarily my favorite class in ME3, or my favorite version of the Adept.
The biggest limitation for Singularity, and a few other CC powers, in ME3 is the fact that there are rarely encounters where you get swarmed by enough enemies that CC is valuable. Something like UNC: Abandoned Mine from ME1, or Derelict Reaper (IFF) in ME2. Really the CC powers often end up being little more than primers many times.
Don't want to make this post overly drawn out with a "trademark" power discussion, but the only one that was really "improved" for ME3 was Tac Cloak, and that was way overbuffed.

The best recommendation for such situations imo is mentioned in the previous post "try it youself". Period. My recommendation is that if you haven't played the class, you should go ahead and do so. ME3 is well-balanced. It is of course "unique", as every class, there are so many builds for this class. CC powers, priming, detonating - there is everything you need actually. That Singularity is not as in ME2 - not a big deal for me at all. As for opinion "Sentinels are better Adepts" - Sentinels are Sentinels, Adepts are Adepts, Soldiers are Soldiers and so no. You have team anyway if that bothers you too much. Plus, my opinion, even if e.g. Sentinels are better tanks, if you are up for some challenge so to say, Adept is a good choice as well. ME2 Adept is better imo, but there is nothing wrong with ME3 Adept. Just try it w/o any "research" and make your own opinion.

Thanks for the info, guys. I've also noticed that the Adept version of the final boss of the Citadel DLC doesn't have Singularity. That seems very strange to me. All the other versions of the boss have the trademark powers of the other classes, but not the Adept. What's up with that?

ME2 adept was meh because combos were hard on shielded enemies. In Me3 when combos are better and easier then the adept was much better. still my least favorite class but it isn't a class I rarely play as.
