Sort of a basic question:
Most of the time I play Giant, someone (and often most of the team), immediately move from the LZ to the nearby open area (between LZ and sniper perch). I know that gives them a clear line of sight down the long ramp (to the Terminal area). But it also exposes them to crossfire from three directions.
Q: Why? Why leave the friendly confines of that big beautiful wall? I'm assuming it is because it is "faster". But as often teammates just end out "deader". Unless they have good situational awareness and damage dealing skills. We all know the exterior hack is the toughest on the map, so why go there intentionally?
Example was yesterday. I just fired up a bronze to play with my finally unlocked Geth Plasma SMG (even with TS, soooo slow to kill). An AA joins around wave 4. Immediately heads to the open area. Goes down ~ a half dozen times in the match. I figure "newb". Lobby reveals they are a L20 N7 2400.

It's because waiting for the enemies if you don't have to is boring. Sometimes you overestimate "not having to" and shit happens. edit: and sometimes (usually?) you just want to stay away from the team for whatever reason

Okay, that's about what I expected: speed. Which is fine, as long as they know their capabilities. Usually, I just see PUGs dying a lot there in even Silver (and apparently Bronze!). Especially in later waves (clear LOS for Scions, Ravagers, Primes...).
I was wondering if there was some strategic positioning at play. Examples: 1) Start there, rush the "Cargo Transfer" spawn (a fair # do that, including me). 2) Maybe have one near LZ to suppress above spawn, one at sniper perch to do same, and then force the "Terminal" spawn below the ramp. But I don't see this done.

Nothing wrong with going after enemies, HOWEVER you better be able to do so without getting downed often. There are some maps where it makes perfect sense to use the terrain to your advantage.
Dagger is a good example, zero good reason to be down below in the middle unless due to objectives.
Also dump FBGiant, you will see enough of it when you reach gold and above as every0ne and their dog seems to want that map.

I seem to remember a few hack locations in London that, to this very day, boil my blood.

Oh, the Giant was just a random UU draw. And I see you highlight Geth SMG, reason? It's a crap weapon, I know. But it was new (at least to this alt-account), and I wanted to refamiliarize myself. Yeah, still sucks Not too bad on the Jugg who can just stand there with finger on the trigger till empty! Open areas: How many pugs have you seen go down wave after wave in the Dagger "valley of death" (or Hydra's ... or the LZ area of White ... or ...)?

I'm just trying to be funny here, no disrespect intended. The Geth Plasma SMG is a horrid weapon - it is not particularly strong in any area, even though Geth Weapons in general were designed to cut through shields. Just ask Corporal Jenkins. As for pugs, they are always seeking new and interesting ways to bleed out.

More targets mean more kills.
If getting overrun, move to cover counter-clockwise.

Whenever I'm working on the Geth SMG challenge I put it on the GI. AP ammo with heat sink and thermal clip. Then I can ramp it up and cloak two or three times while firing. It's also ok on the GE with incendiary rounds.
Not sure these are the most efficient uses of the gun, but I find them enjoyable. I'd rather use the GPSMG than most of the other SMGs, even if it is a bit like a water pistol.

i mostly host. or solo. or both. so don't have to deal with the pugland favourite more frequent than the others, well within the rng trolling confines of course. so my biggest problem with the Giant, well and the other larger maps too, is because of me overall scrubbiness i kite. excessively. like overly excessively. which makes for longer matches. much longer. which is sometimes fine and sometimes is too tiring
