EDIT: And another thing i feel like a wasted opportunity is Leviathans. Shepard risks their life to talk to them, they promise that they will kick Reapers ass, you get a war asset Leviathan Enthrallment Team 400 and... Nothing after that. The Leviathan says that they will not fight for Shepard and his war but for themselves, so why do we even get a war asset if it is useless for us? It is only worth something to enable us to leave Despoina. .. Was interested myself. Without the Reapers those idiot-monsters could have actually enslave the rest very easy. Maybe they were going to do it later, after getting confirmation that it is safe and they can leave their coward hiding water hole to show how powerful they are. Really, what is next if the reapers are destroyed? Well this is a loose extension of the Leviathans; and one that Legendary Edition players will not get to see; but in the ME3MP the Awakened Collector character's description highly hints at the fact that the Leviathans are involved in the war in a more tangible way (kinda). The kit's description is that a Leviathan severed the connection of a Collector ship from Reaper control and that these former Protheans are now fighting for their dead race alongside the current cycle. This of course comes across as very suspect considering how the Awakened Collector doesn't vocalize or call out in pain when shot. It actually seems like its nothing more than a zombie; or more actually a meat puppet, considering what we know of the Leviathans and how they can control other species. Knowing that fact it seems far more likely that all the talk of 'Freed Protheans' is just war propaganda on behalf of the Citadel/Alliance government to cover up the fact that the Leviathan is just turning Reaper husks back onto their former masters. A lie to help bolster morale if you will.

Dark Energy. Both of the times they mention it in ME 2 my heart weeps. I know low hanging fruit but there could have been something there for pay off.
