Hello there, fellows. Yesterday, I decided to get 100% achievements on ME3 (on X-Box One). The achievements I Have left are the 2 insanity difficulty ones on the regular game (finish the game on insanity after leaving earth, or make all missions on gold or on insanjty) and the "meticulous" achievement on the Omega DLC. So, I started an insanity playthrough, obviously. I'm pretty confident after an easy time on the hardcore difficulty some weeks ago; but the two fights that were more difficult, for me were DLC ones: The fight in the room where Aria is restrained in the end of "Omega", and the fight against the clone Sheppard in the middle of "cidadel". So, my plan was to ignore the DLC completely; finish the game to get all the difficulty achievements, and only then do the DLC, because it diminishes the chance that I'll hit a wall, and after I have the difficulty achievements, I can lower the difficulty on the DLC ifn the case that I need it. Obviously, if I have to begin the DLC before the endgame, that is not an option. I can always keep a save game for later, but I usually keep few, and sometimes I save over in the wrong time. I don't want to have to do yet another playthrough. Hence my question: can you start the DLC after the campaign? I imagine yes, because it resets the time to before the Cerberus base, but as it is a long time commitment, I'd rather not to find out too late I'm wrong. Regards . Ps.: another curiosity: does enemy level scale in this game? If I do omega very early, will it be easier? In insanity, it could be overwhelming with lower levels if there is no scaling...

I would suggest playing From Ashes early to get the most from it since Javik has a lot to offer. I found Omega tough no matter when you play it even with new game+.

Yes, enemies scale with the player level. The Omega DLC may be a little easier early game, depending on your preferred build. For the final fight, generally you want to ignore all enemies until you free Aria. Enemies will keep respawning anyway until you do. Basically, just run immediately to your back left or right, activate the terminal, then go shoot the shackle. Go around in circle to get all four. Then mop up all enemies. I don't know exactly what causes the enemies to spawning in. I think you have to kill a specific number of Adjutants (2 or 3?) to stop enemies from spawning? I mention this because I once had one of the room doors close in front of an add-in Adjutant before it could join the fight, then Petrovsky said to stand down to end the fight. So I am not sure what the game uses to determine when the fight should stop spawning in enemies. For me, the hardest sequence in the game on Insanity is "Marauder Shields" after the beam run. I play on console (with a controller), so the forced aim hindrance in that sequence made it extremely difficult to get the two required headshots to kill him. Also, Clone Shepard in the Citadel DLC can be a bit of pain with specific class builds. (Some no-charge Vanguards make the clone fight more difficult, for example). Also the Ambush sequence on Insanity in the Citadel DLC can sometimes be a real pain as well.

For the fight against the clone, focus on Brooks. She goes down a lot easier than he does and when he revives her, it wastes one of his medigels.

I think the main thing is to hit reload so that you get the Predator reload animation and confuse viewers.
But seriously, I thought it was actually more than two shots, I can't remember exactly. I tried to hit him in the head, if body shots work then my whole ME3 life has been a lie.

I believe you can move far enough to the right, you can get behind cover so he cannot kill you (he will shoot you once). Using "right-hand advantage" you can shoot him and he cannot shoot you. If you are standing in the open, you have only two shots to take him out on Insanity: the first must take down his shields to stagger him, and the second shot must kill him. The second shot needs to be headshot to kill him. I believe you need to score a headshot to take down his shields in one shot. It has been a while since I beat Marauder Shields on Insanity. I just know it took several tries. I only play that last sequence on Casual since I got the Insanity achievement. If I have time, I will see if I have an available save point and try it on Insanity to see. But boy do I hate that sequence. Not sure how easy/hard it is wih keyboard and mouse, but it is frustrating with controller because the game purposely fights your aim in that sequence.

On higher difficulties, it's best to head shot shields. It will go down faster and there's less chance it will fire at Shepard. Body shots work, but the player is taking a chance since one shot from shields kills Shepard. On lower difficulties, it doesn't matter.

Wow, so maybe Marauder Shields will be an issue? I took him out on hardcore pretty easily, barely noticed any increase in difficulty; on insanity, I'm not there yet, just did Priority:citadel, than the Jacob side mission. It would really suck to go all the way, and than get stuck on him. But I can see it; I use the executioner hand cannon, and in the Mars mission, I had it equipped when I ran after the EVA robot; so when I had to shoot it, and a headshot didn't take it down, I thought I was stuck because she killed me before I could reload. Tried several times to reload faster, or use powers, to no avail, until I realized I had time to equip my assault rifle, and down she fell... By the way, what is your chosen class and accompanying ordinance? I always play as a soldier, to the point that if I decide to platinum mass effect one, not only I have two difficulty playthroughs ahead, I also will have to play with an untested class, because I don't have the achievements of power usage for either biotic or engineer. Anyway, here are my chosen weapons, allowing for a good mix of range, stopping power and weight: M13-raptor sniper rifle; I know it's like a scoped assault rifle rather than a proper sniper, but I don't use it much; it's there to handle the few occasions when I get pinned down, or to handle foes behind fog. M96-mattock assault rifle: on ME2 I exchange it for the revenant, but on ME3 I feel there is no better mix of reliability and stopping power. M12-Locust submachine gun: my anti shield option. All upgraded, weights almost nothing, fires fast, and is pretty accurate. Executioner pistol: my anti-armor instakill, and the option against any heavy enemy. I take no shotguns with me. They are very heavy, and I feel they are redundant with the heavy pistol; in fact, to my amazement, I feel no shotgun ever matchs the power of the heavy pistol slugs. My game improved much when I dropped them in order to get faster power reload times, and trusted that my heavy pistols would be enough; they are actually better. So, what weapons do you like to use (specially you jarheads like me)? Any suggestions of changes I should try? Regards .

... By the way, what is your chosen class and accompanying ordinance? ... So, what weapons do you like to use (specially you jarheads like me)? Any suggestions of changes I should try? All classes work just fine. Other than my first playthrough (Normal difficulty so I could experience the story), I play on Insanity. For the most part, the game was not too challenging on Insanity, apart from some specific sequences, especially if I was playing with a sub-optimal build (like a Chargeless Vanguard variation). If you focus on using powers, weapons pretty much do not matter. If you focus on using weapons, then you generally want weapons that deal good burst damage, or have good damage per second (DPS), especially when combined with various ammo powers. (Incendiary Ammo with Explosive Burst evolution is good for Soldiers and Vanguards, or you can get it from Jacob at reduced damage.) Almost all DLC weapons are good. A few of the vanilla game weapons are okay. On the old BSN forums, a user named Athenau ranked all the weapons. I copied his forum post here. I usually stick to a handful of weapons, usually weapons I can pick up early in the game, or DLC weapons since I can get them right away. My most-used weapon is probably the Claymore. I have used it on all classes at some point. My choice of weapon depends on the build or playstyle.

Marauder Shields on Insanity: - 2-3 shots to take down his shields - minimum 3-4 shots to take down his health
Damage for health is location based. Headshots do more damage obviously. Occasionally it seems like I wing his arm and it takes down 1 pip of health? The weapon you are using seems to have a chance to stagger, or maybe it is location-based. (Kind of like how some chest shots on the final three husks in that sequence will blow a hole in their chest and stagger them.)

Ok; decided to do citadel, so I can level up the m7 Lancer to level 10; and, as predicted, the very final fight against the clone is giving me a hard time.
The clone and Brooks are though, but seem manageable. The real problem are the cat6 heavies.
I didn't find a way to reliably bypass their energy shields, so I am forced to move too erratically because the clone will *uck you up if you let it close up, and I can't control my position properly because the heavies are always closing in on me.
The heavies are, IMHO, the thoughest enemy in the expansion, but I always overcame with movement and using allies (garrus and wrex); because wrex can actually beat the heavies head on, buying me maneuverability.
For some dumbass reason, I changes for garrus and Edi for the last leg of the fight, and she lacks the same efficacy against heavies. I might have to restart that segment, which is annoying but doable; my issue though, is that I would love a consistent strategy to fight heavies.
My ordinance in the fight is the one described in my last post, with two changes; changes the mattock for the lancer and the executioner for the suppressor. My elected power is domination over organics, and I have all powers of soldier Sheppard maxed, except the cryo ammo.
So, any suggestions on how to approach cat6 heavies consistently? Merely shooting in the eye hole of the shield works great on Cerberus heavies, but really isn't cutting it against the cat6...

Ok. I just did it. I figured out that you actually can overload the heavy's energy shields. Funny, because it shows as a blocked power in the interface...
Anyways, that was the edge I needed; it was still tough, and took a few attempts - the clone powers do a ton of damage and stun-lock you in the middle of loads of enemies; but once you get through the first half of the fight, it gets a lot easier...

Turns out, no plan was needed.
I finished the combat portion of cidadel (withholding the party until after the miranda mission so she can join), and I decided that I had to do it so I could upgrade the lancer and the suppressor to mark X.
Than finished leviathan - never considered skipping this one, too story essential, and no real though fights to speak of.
Than decided to go for Omega, keeping a save from before starting it. Figured that I could always relax if I hit a wall and load that save, and little would be lost if the "meticulous" achievement was already unlocked.
Only that, to my surprise, while the end fight of Cidadel is indeed very though on insanity, Omega OTOH let me down. With my upgraded gear, the adjutants were pushovers, and the final fight was just a little above average difficulty. I kept expecting when omega would punch me in the face like cidadel did, but... it never came.
Anyway, finished it, and the "meticulous" achievement is on the bag. Now, all I have to do is play the game until it's completion, and the two achievements left should unlock without much fuzz.
And now, only ME1 left for me to platinum.

Five attempts to get marauder shields down. Four shots, only one of them a headshot.

Congratulations on getting the achievements. So I searched some videos on YouTube, and I think I know why Marauder Shields was the most frustrating moment for me on Insanity. When I beat the game on Insanity, I beat it on my second playthrough. I believe this was before any patches to the game. Pre-patch, Marauder Shields spawned in with 100% shields. It took four shots to take out his shields. Now he spawns in with less than 50% shields. Video here showing the original re-nerf version of Marauder Shields.

So, they nerfed marauder shields! I would never know if you didn't tell me. As I used to play lower difficulties, he was always an afterthought. These 4 deaths today are the only times I ever died for him... And you are right with the ambush sequence - particularly the area just before you enter the car store. The issue there is ammo conservation; it is very scarce. Maybe a fully biotic Shepard can do it in a whim, but for a dedicated soldier that needs his ammo a lot, it is brutal. Save the clone sequence, it is the place I died most in the whole game. Now that I think about it, I might have died more in the ambush sequence.!

For the fight against the clone, focus on Brooks. She goes down a lot easier than he does and when he revives her, it wastes one of his medigels. Makes total sense. But curiously enough, I did it doing the exact opposite. Not that I was planning to, it just kinda happened. At a certain point I got the clone in front of me, and unloaded my fully upgraded suppressor on him. It eat away 2 of his medigels, and left him with partial armor. As I was behind a balcony, and using a lot the soldier reflex, I managed to keep the upper hand, and trigger the Cerberus counterpush. So, took a few shots, next thing I see is the midfight video! That suppressor is a BEAST of a weapon...

Marauder Shields isn't difficult. All you need to do is hitting him. Preferrably the head. What makes this "difficult" is the change in pacing, since this is slow-mo - this can put your aim off when you're used to a rhythm and muscle memory.

Now that Mass effect 2 and 3 are both out of the way, I have only ME1 to platinum so I can be done with the trilogy. I have eight achievements left.
1 - finish the game on hardcore 2 - finish the game on insanity.
I wished to beat both at throphies same time with an insanity playthrough, but apparently ME1 will only let you raise difficulty one level at a time. Go figure...
3 - lift mastery 4 - warp mastery 5 - singularity mastery 6 - stasis mastery 7 - AI hacking specialist 8 - neural shock specialist
So most of the achievements left are due to the fact that I always play as soldier. So, they are not much of a challenge, most people get them without much work; but from where I am standing, it's just busy work, what is a shame.
I could combine much of the effort by playing the hardcore and insanity playthroughs with new classes. But sound kinda risky doing that exactly when I'm ramping up the difficulty. I know I can do it as a soldier, with my high level fully equipped character. Not so sure if I have to be, I dunno, a vanguard, or an adept, for the first time.
Safe path will be very boring, because it will entail at least 2 more playthroughs with the soldier, and than some more gameplay - not necessarily all the way - to get the extra powers.
So I have two questions:
Is there a minimum percentage completion of the game for unlocking the difficulty achievements, or can I just ignore most content, and shoot straight for the main missions to unlock them (what would actually be interesting to do once, feel an extra sense of urgency with all filler removed).
And do you guys have build suggestions for characthers, or strategies that I can use to grab those throphies with the minimum amount of playtime required?
Thanks In avance!

Do a new game plus with all your equipment from the previous playthrough. I would only do the main missions. It won't take long. Once done, go back to a lower difficulty to get the rest of the trophies playing a different class.

Yup, pretty much my plan of attack. So no way around it. Several plays left to get all throphies... at least with no completion requirements, right?
If at least they let me skip the hardcore and go straight to insanity...
