Dragon Age The Veilguard Criticism Thread (formerly Skepticism Thread) [Spoilers]

I'm thinking I should finally play Fallout London. I downloaded it a couple of days ago, still need to add a few mods to make it run on my ultra wide monitor and an RTX card. But that shouldn't take long.

I wish I knew how to safely pirate this game so that I wouldn't be upset for abandoning it after a few hours if it's unbearably bad (and it's looking like it). I'd buy it eventually on discount if it turns out decent enough.

I hope the price drops fast, so that I can get a key for cheap...

I have some other games im my mind too, namely Life Is Strange which I never played and Jedi Survivor PS4 version, I'm gonna dodge that 100+ GB update from the PS5 version like the fully upgraded Normandy shrugged off the Collector beams lmao

I always liked this guy. I don't watch a lot of his stuff but he always seemed a fair and intelligent reviewer and news reporter. He's saying what I've been thinking the whole time and the examples he gives really don't allow me to come to a more favorable conclusion.
I could have handwaved the boring combat, I already thought DAI had brain dead boring combat on default settings. I could try to ignore the visuals but if the writing is teacher talking to a toddler level of conflict resolution, I'm sorry but WHAT?!

This is so bad I'm in utter shock. I know I keep repeating myself but I don't understand how we got here. Even the best BioWare games had cringe lines once in a while. You can cherry pick them to make ME2 look bad if you are determined. Very easy to gaslight people with rage bait. But apparently any random scene reviewers are showcasing is a complete joke. 40min of game footage doesn't lie. I can't understand anybody defending this kindergarten game. Shit, Tim Burton movies are creepier than anything I've seen of DAV. I've read books for children and young adults more mature than the tone of this game.

This goes beyond creative bankruptcy, this is... I don't even know what to call this!

Well, interesting bunch of reviews and turns out the game's writing looks just as expected. Ooof.

Gotta go kill some tyranids for the Emperor and the Primarch.

I (mostly) enjoyed the first one. Though I thought the finale made no sense.

I started the second game, and yeah it got so preachy I stopped playing. haven't tried any others. Not even sure how many are out now.

Looking at Skill Up's video, the puzzles, so to speak are hilarious. They all feel like the gaming equivalent of those puzzles that scientists set up for orangutans to solve or something.

Reminds me of Angry Joe's review of ME3 in which James Vega was portrayed as a dumb meathead who can't even solve a children's puzzle ("this is too difficult!")

Looking at the disparity in reviews, I’m seeing a bit of a trend emerge:

If you just want a generic action RPG or disliked previous Dragon Age games, it will be right up your alley. But as a proper Dragon Age sequel, Veilguard falls short.

Case in point: Paul Tassi of Forbes, who gave Veilguard an 8.5 out of 10, is quite upfront with the fact he dislikes the DA series to the point he never finished the previous games.

After seeing what they've done with Veilguard, it makes me wonder if they're gonna butcher Mass Effect too (as if Andromeda wasn't enough). A part of me hopes that EA will shut down the studio before they get the chance to do that... Like, I don't even want to consider Veilguard cannon at this point.

I get that you're going to love the game. But this is the skepticism thread.
