Dragon Age The Veilguard Criticism Thread (formerly Skepticism Thread) [Spoilers]

I just heard there was a scene in this game where the characters argue about misgendering or using wrong pronouns.

Can anyone confirm that's true?

It's 100% true. And it's not an argument. It's an acquiescence and humiliation combined in one. We can start with the character assassination of Isabela. A damn near chaotic neutral pirate who's into crass and offensive humor and doesn't pull punches with people. In the scene described, she 'misgenders' our Qunari and proceeds to 'pull a Bharv'.

A 'Bharv' is a convoluted way to humiliate yourself by doing 10 push ups in front of the offended party. Beccause as Isabela explains, saying sorry is not good enough 'you just want to get it over with'. And being too apologetic is even worse because 'now you've made it about you'. So the best way to resolve these crimes is to pull a Bharv.

If this sounds ridiculous, I encourage you to seek out the scene yourself. Every bit of this is true and not exaggerated in the slightest. I'm likely not doing the scene justice.

By "our Qunari" do you mean Taash or a Qunari Rook? I thought it was a false rumor that Taash was non-binary.[

Either way, bringing real world politics into a fantasy setting can be... pretty jarring, to say the least.

how do you know it's much more frequent? Was it mentioned in one of the reviews?

They really do have a power rangers'esque scene near the beginning missions of the game where they discuss their evil plans. And how they're shaping up. It's so stereotypical Saturday morning cartoon villain that it hurts.
