I'll say the Taash debacle is disappointing. It wasn't handled with grace and now it's like they've dumped gasoline on a fire. Roaches like Asmongold are taking the narrative and running miles with it. Which is to say, it may have been hamfisted but I'm seeing a lot of overreacting from opportunists. I'm not defending these people, hell certainly not Asmongold lol. but in the end it is still Bioware's fault for giving culture war grifters such a low-hanging fruit. They could have made a Qunari word for "non-binary" so actual fans wouldn' t be taken out of the game by terms that never even existed in the setting before. They could have made Taash a tiny bit more likeable and focus more on the dragon hunter/qunari/rivaini aspect of the character. Alas it is too late.

Fell asleep watching the playthrough. Not intentionally. It was like listening to a golf sportscast with the volume a little low. The worst thing I can say so far is that it's boring. Strangely enough I would've taken a Gaurdians quip fest over what's being presented at the moment.
Edit: Is being blighted now a status effect? I could have sworn it was a death sentence barring you had no Grey Warden to perform the ceremony.

I just heard there was a scene in this game where the characters argue about misgendering or using wrong pronouns.
Can anyone confirm that's true?

Can anyone confirm that's true? It's 100% true. And it's not an argument. It's an acquiescence and humiliation combined in one. We can start with the character assassination of Isabela. A damn near chaotic neutral pirate who's into crass and offensive humor and doesn't pull punches with people. In the scene described, she 'misgenders' our Qunari and proceeds to 'pull a Bharv'.
A 'Bharv' is a convoluted way to humiliate yourself by doing 10 push ups in front of the offended party. Beccause as Isabela explains, saying sorry is not good enough 'you just want to get it over with'. And being too apologetic is even worse because 'now you've made it about you'. So the best way to resolve these crimes is to pull a Bharv.
If this sounds ridiculous, I encourage you to seek out the scene yourself. Every bit of this is true and not exaggerated in the slightest. I'm likely not doing the scene justice.

Either way, bringing real world politics into a fantasy setting can be... pretty jarring, to say the least.

Another problem with the storytelling that is currently also taking me out of the game: Varric narrating the story and it's clear they're trying to recreate the narration he did in DA2. The problem however is that it's far more frequent.
In DA2 he only spoke directly to the audience 9 times I think. At the prologue, at the beginning and ending of each act and at the end. But the problem is, Varric was still talking to Cassandra, here in Veilguard however it is just another example of a character breaking the 4th wall unless at the end of the game they show us that Varric is telling this to somoene in-universe.
It is very distracting, it's already bad having dialogue pop-ups explaining to me what a character is feeling, what they thought and what they remember or whatever. I seriously don't like this at all.

In the scene described, Taash's mother actually tells us the term and then Taash screeches at her to just understand or something to that effect. This 'dragon slayer' is very unlikeable. And they probably knew she would be, but they couldn't let that get in the way of the message. Suddenly I have an urge to do ten push ups. To be honest, I had more of an issue with her giving Neve a hard time for the way she dressed. On Neve scene i'm curious does Fem Rook get told off like male Rook for having an opinion too

I really can't get over that scene. It sends such a hateful message. I'm having flashbacks to 50 years ago when our neighbour's daughter told us, in all childlike innocence, that we weren't really human because we weren't Christian. And the attitude of her parents back then, that I see in the writer of this scene. A level of moral condescension and self-righteousness I find incomprehensible. I never would've thought I'd have to fight that stuff again. And in a game with the name Dragon Age on it of all things.
"He who fights with monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster. When you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you" - Baldur's Gate 1 tagline, originally by Friedrich Nietzsche.

Funnily enough, Asmon actually said something about that scene that rings true: "it's not dialogue. It's a sermon".

Regarding Ghil and 'em They really do have a power rangers'esque scene near the beginning missions of the game where they discuss their evil plans. And how they're shaping up. It's so stereotypical Saturday morning cartoon villain that it hurts.

And it doesn't stop there, Ghilan'nain was this cartoony over the top even in flashbacks before she turned into whatever the fuck she's suppposed to be now, hell SOLAS is cartoony in her flashback, there's a moment he goes like this "I FAILED YOU FRIEND, I AM SORRY" LOL. Ghilan'nain, she is always one note: Experiments, creation, Blight.
She's more one dimensional than the Archdemon, I can't even compare these two clowns to Corypheus because I somehow respect him more lol
His attack in Haven was cool as fuck, but here? I half expect Elgar'nan to tie Neve onto some train tracks or something thanks to that voice of his.
And about Power Rangers, they ARE dressed like Powr Ranger villains. lol

I just caught that on Asmongold's channel...and all I can say is...ugh. Who the hell wrote that scene...I feel like my IQ drop 10 points just by watching it. And Isabela looks ridiculous...not to mention she should be in her 50's. It's like some cartoon for 8 year olds on conflict resolution. Gahhh! Imo it was like watching an HR video at work. There's so many different ways they could've gone about the whole Taash is non binary, something that fits the ingame universe. Saw many times that they could've just come up with a Qun name for it or something. That's just preaching now, lecturing. The disappointing thing is that there is actually an interesting conversation to be had about these themes, and I could come up with interesting ways to use Thedas' lore to anchor it all in the world in fairly short order, so that we could discuss it in-world and maybe take some wisdom along with us into RL. That's how these things should ideally work.
But for a meaningful conversation, there has to be mutual respect. And I'm not seeing that here.

Yeah, there's a two and half hour long video of the final stretch and it was pretty compelling. Made me forget what I disliked about the game for a moment. The player clearly rushed to the end getting the bad ending in which everyone dies. But it was satisfying to see Solas get what was coming to him.

So it's true then that the final few hours are actually good? Good compared to the abysmal writing for most of the game or genuinely good? Big difference to me.

For some reason, Google AI is now giving me the Audience review for Veilguard. Not sure how reliable this might be since I think there is no need to actually play the game to post some kind of evaluation. As of this moment, it sits at 1.9 out of 5, with approximately 200 ratings posted.

Seeing Solas for who he is, getting his ass handed to him just put me in the most glorious mood. The epilogue, if you can call it that is lazy as fuck but that last scene, YAY, JOY , HOORAY!

I've only seen a few hours, mostly just the finale and some small bits here and there, but I had the same thought. The quality was better than the Taash scenes and the treating your companions like Kindergarteners scenes.
Maybe not amazing, but satisfying and far less cringe than I expected.
