Dragon Age The Veilguard Criticism Thread (formerly Skepticism Thread) [Spoilers]

I (used to) adore Bioware, but this new game looks, sounds and feels alien to me. So put off that I have not purchased it yet either.

I just hope and pray they don't taint ME5 in the same manner.

This is the saddest thing tbh.
Apart from the shallow story and characters, not being true to your own lore is just the worst. I can live with a few inconsistencies or a character, that could be dead, coming back, but just ignoring, what they build up in three other games and books and comics on top ( and a ttrpg) is just sad.

I wouldn't know, I went dark as soon as they released the Gameinformer article with the 20 minute intro scene. If I hadn't just finished the Lucanis recruitment quest, I would have been spoiled

I read an article about it at the time, that they randomly paid a really good ?cinematgographer? lots of money to make that scene. Legitmately pornographic minus actual insertion angles. The lip synced kissing was yum.

Peebee, a pan character, rides a Ryder woman like she has a dick and it's pretty disappointing. Another lady is like Asexual, I never saw Liam's sex scene and then there is the Lizard lady and the Koala man and ya... you won't like.

I romanced the turian lady Vetra as dude Ryder and was actually relieved that there was a fade to black. Because let's be honest, nobody wants to see a Turian naked. Then again they gave us Jaal's wrinkled old man butt I can never forget, so eh.

I never saw the Cora love scene but what I heard they poured all the budget into that one.

I can't wait to see what the DAV version of a love scene is. I mean, BioWare romances we're mostly cringe before to me so I don't quite know what kind of horror to expect. I'm not sure it's even possible to have a sexy love scene when all characters look Pixar cute. There is something very wrong about the idea of Pixar sex to me, lol. Like these two things should never be mentioned in the same sentence...

Its shocking. And this is happening despite a huge marketing campaign and lots of positive reviews from major gaming sites. The gaming community has spoken I guess.

In terms of female sex appeal it also doesn't compare with BG3. The Veilguard girls pale in comparison with Shadowheart and Karlach is far superior to Tash (both the more unconvential female type).

Also I think its not just about sex appeal but also emotional depth. Astarion and Shadowheart & co. were very broken and the player helped them get through it. In Veilguard the characters seem so PG and safe that there are no real flaws

I think Darvin Lucanis and Neve are all pretty hot even in a more conventional sense, but I think the general design works against them

Neve looks bland imho, compare her with beginning companion characters like Morrigan or Miranda and she pales in comparison. Maybe its also the VA thats contributing to this for me at least
