I feel like you know and care about the lore much more than most people in Bioware at this point I feel like that applies to most of us at this point. I know for sure that's why I raged so hard at Andromeda. That was MY Veilguard moment, as I had always somewhat prefered ME to DA.

 This is the comedy special that just keeps on giving! They have definitely made an unintentional parody of themselves. It will likely become a cult classic because of that: Veilguard the Movie (from all the cobbled together cut scenes) I remember years ago after Conan the Barbarian came out there were lots of studios rushing to jump on the bandwagon and some of the stuff they produced was really dire. We had just bought our first video player (showing my age here) and went down to the local hire shop to see what was available. Well, all the good titles had gone, so we picked up a fantasy film we'd not heard of before. The guy behind the counter was begging us not to hire it. I think he feared we might never hire from him again if we did. (Don't know why he left it on the shelf then). Anyway, we assured him we would not hold it against him and took it home to watch over dinner. It was definitely so bad it was hilarious. We had a very enjoyable evening and returned it the following day with a grin as we handed it over. He was somewhat worried about us after that! Veilguard is definitely DA's The Room or Fateful Findings, it has that vibe.
Indeed playing it today I'm having much more fun by treating it as on of those so bad it's good movies, thinking less about how this was supposed to be a serious game and more about what it actually is.
Only wish it had more replayability, then it might have even grown on me over time.

I think they've already gone. Mary Kirby was one of the last of the old guard of writers and she was dumped last year. Lots of the original team that created Dragon Age left before they switched back from multi-player to single player. Weakes only joined the team for DAI and then took over as lead writer when David Gaider left shortly after Trespasser. Weakes was more of a Mass Effect writer before that. According to whistleblowers (no way to verify so take it as rumour), the old guard who were more into DAO mood and type of game were pushed out of the company. It apparently became so egregious that EA would send "applicants" to be trained by the old guard, and after the newbies were thru training the senior developer would be fired. After a while they started leaving the company by their own volition instead of waiting for that humiiation ritual of training the person who was about to replace you. Now, this could be completely fabricated, but it does give a possible answer to why old guard devs started fleeing the company like they smelled something rotten in the years between Inquisition and now. And might explain why they wanted to "get rid" of Mary Kirby - she was too connected to the old guard way of making games. She might have even been a thorn in the writing team side the whole way through, as I cant imagine she was happy with the way things ended up. But I guess we will never know for sure. I raise a glass to Dragon Age! Gone too soon. May your plots be resolved in the afterlife! (2009-2014) All these rumors only make me feel worse, and I really hope that's not true, that if the "old guard" as you call them left it was of their own volition or at least not after they were forced to train replacement that's sinister... It's like digging your own grave at a gun point. Also why would they want them to train replacement if they didn't like the way the old guard did things? |

Only wish it had more replayability, then it might have even grown on me over time.
The last five hours are supposed to be great, so there's that. It seems that this game would have benefited greatly by being at least 20 hours shorter than it is. And apparently there are three endings if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think it'll hit Inquisition numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had a respectable showing. In either case, BioWare and EA will laud this game as an amazing success regardless of the reality. As someone else said, if we start hearing about 'restructuring' and 'repurposing', we'll know the truth.

Unless it has some huge secret fan base this game is flopping right now. Barely 85k players for an AAA game with tons of marketing is terrible I think EA needs to put Bioware out of their misery at this point

My first impressions are weird. Good combat, very good visuals, but the actual writing feels like "some fans threw together a Dragon Age fan game in RPGMaker, BioWare somehow found out, hired them, used their plot and texts wholesale and created an AAA gameplay for it."

I will consider this game as a bad nightmare my Inquisitor had after drinking from the Well of Sorrows. It literally just now occured to me what a gigantic waste of time that choice was...also a pretty big indicator to me, that Veilguard wasn't Laidlaw's vision for this franchises future. And while i hope its not true, it doesnt feel that farfetched after watching this trainwreck... The point in training replacement, i imagine, would be on the technical aspect of things, not mood and tone preferences.

Always remember that the majority of players are on console. BG3 was probably a lot more played on PC than most big releases. So the Steam numbers are not necessarily super terrible.

You know, on the plus side, this is the sort of game that encourages people to become Indie Devs. I remember reading a Salvatore (I think) interview decades ago (writer of Drizzt Do'Urden) and I think he said something like he was reading books and thinking he could write better than that. So he did. This is the type of game people play, listen to the dialogue, and think to themselves ... I can write better than that. Then they do. And then they go make Indie games like Henchman and Penny Larceny and I snap them up because they're wonderful experiences. So clouds and silver linings.

My rough calculations is I multiply it by 7 (concurrent so timezones is a factor, and some people just don't play long), double it because consoles, and get a really rough figure. I used to multiply it by ten but that was a bit much and Hogwarts was closer to 7 when the figures came out. So 90 by 7 is 630k double it for consoles at 1.3 million, then double it again because let's be really nice and take the largest possible number to equate for a big fat console audience just for arguments sake and you get 2.5 million sales at launchish Which is low. Just my uneducated opinion though (Hogwarts 900 * 7 then double for consoles is almost 13 million. Hogwarts sold 12 million in the first 2 weeks. That's when I changed my formula from 10 to 7)

Hmm. Perhaps if there are some sexy scenes eventually they will conquer tik tok and the game will get some more sales.
I honestly think that BG3 had no business to sell as well as it did and the only reason it happened is because of these sex scenes and hot characters etc
