For what i saw, there are many things i'm not liking but none of them is super important. here is a list. Tell me if you agree on any of them
1) In Dual wield build it's possible i can't use the 2 weapons i like better because they both for main / off hand...but why?? let's put all those swords together and let me choose 2,
2) Too many places doors i can unlock later. It's not good to see some doors are locked for no reason. Let me go there and if i'm going too early then i won't find anything
3) Same for doors in the cities. so many closed doors. in a RPG you have to allow players to do what they want. Even going where there is nothing to do. Not all chests must have loot
4) Speaking of chests part 1: why they are already visible on the minimap?
5) Speaking of chests part 2: horrible to see a chest dropping from an enemy rather than having their loot directly
6) Too many materials to pick up. Reducing costs would make those material less useful so i don't have to pick up everything
7) Companions abilities cooldown are OR too long OR they shouldn't have the same shared cooldown. Give me long single cooldowns or a short shared cooldown (solution 1 is better)
8) Too many ability points! not even at half of the game and i already finished my build on the skill tree.
9) Why can't i sell the items i don't want? it's not only for gold but also to keep inventory clean. i don't need to have 25 armors
10) When i'm upgrading an armor i can't compare it to the one i'm using. i can see the comparison only if i'm buying a new one but if it's an upgrade i can see only the old version and the upgraded version with better stats.
11) They did great job with quests marks and with loot visibility. i turned all off to have no helps but that TAB signal remain. The environment i can interact with is already known after few hours (harding's rocks, Bellara's aftefacts etc etc) so don't warn me about those things. Let me open TAB when i want and make a scan (yes...i should be able to rotate view after activating the wheel)

So we gloss over the whole ruthless trained assassin's guild and act as if they're just really nice mercenary freedom fighters who don't do nothing to nobody, and our so called Lords of Fortune are a bunch of glad handing pusillanimous robin hood types who take care not to 'disrespect' other cultures. Fucking wonderful. They really got dark with this one. The real Isabela would take their most precious artifacts, laugh about it, and do it again. And I hate to think what the real Crows would do, but something tells me things would get a whole lot simpler with them around. Yeah, the famous hero crows, good patriots fighting for freedom, generous and inclusive people. I don't forget that a crow took care to use pronouns to show that he was not a bigot lol. Also a child, apprentice of the crows lost a loved one killed by the Antaam, and you don't understand, all the bland crow npcs mourn his loss, and wonder if he will recover one day and how he will get through it. This is the subject that comes up over and over with all the crows in the Cantori, and I wondered why it mattered to them. Who the fuck care ? Since when does a crow cares so much about the insignificant life of a child and his hurt feelings, even if a recruit ? Are we really in the presence of crows or an Italian goody two shoes family mafia ? Lucanis and the crows, it's incredible how their obsession keeps being the safety of the civilians in Treviso by the way, not to counterattack and destroy their enemies. Not to take revenge. No, the priority is to save people, to treat the wounded, side missions to get medicine for them, above all their priority. Why don't you focus on your plans to counter-attack instead of that ? Are you for real ? According to Teia the crows have built several field hospitals, to treat all civilians, not the crows, but the civilians. Not even to win the favor of the population, but because they care about the lives of the inhabitants. What is this disgusting portrayal of a guild of cold and very professional assassins that I respected so much since DA:O ? You hear the stories of Zevran and you witness such shit, you cry. They have nothing to do with the crows, they are fake. #not my crows And Lucanis, damn, incredible how they try to make me believe that he is the most dangerous assassin, when he has the sensitivity and emotional condition of a little girl on edge. I can't respect him as such, he is miserable all the time. He's also nicer than my neighbor who is 78 years old and adorable. How can you believe that this guy can handle assassinations in a cold and lucid manner without losing his shit, in cold blood ? Unless of course he only kills bad guys as well and then everything is cool, everything is fine, he will obviously feels nothing when killing them, because he is the hero of the story, easy contracts to execute. He has never killed innocent people, not even a fly. Very convenient. We come back again to this utopian world where even assassins are submitted to the power of friendship, filled with love for their neighbor, who cook for everyone, are more passionate about coffee than their work, who think about offering gifts to everyone while barely knowing them.

You could remove Taash from the group discussion scenes and nothing would change. Might even be a little better without her piping in with nonsense. I do think the group cozily sipping beverages and laying on their seats like it's a movie night was a bit... I don't know. But that's really just nitpicking at this point, but it's part of a bigger criticism in terms of tone. Which is kind of sad. I was looking forward to her and then she is one of the worst companions, BioWare has ever written. I just saw a review of the game by a trans man and longtime fan of the series and he said, that Taashs whole story pisses him of. First: their mother was totally trying to be supportive in a bit of a clumsy way, but still. The reviewer said, that every LGBTQ+ person can wish for such a parent and I agree. Then the whole 'Pulling a Bharv' scene, where Isabela said, it was not about her and then totally made it about her. Taash being so moody and judgemental the whole time is quite annoying. And the modern language does nothing to endear me to them tbh. I think, the reviewer said, that Taashs writer is non binary and I begin to think, that this person has a lot of unresolved issues. Maybe they should write a book about it or talk to a psychiatrist, but putting your modern day experiences in a game, that never had issues with LGBTQ+ and suddenly make it an issue, is just wrong. I'd be so disappointed if they did this to ME

DAV continues its precipitous drop...now at 28th on the Steam world sales chart (1 day short of 2 weeks). The day it was released it had an 80% user base score...that has now dropped to 71.85. (Not sure how you get an 80% before the game has even been played). Metacritic scores continue to be abysmal: 2.4, 3.8, and 4.0 for PC, PS, & XB, respectively. Our own BSN poll scores the game at a middling 2.69 (5.37 on a 10 scale). I just don't understand it. IGN gave it a 9/10. Eurogamer gave it a perfect score. All the games journalists gave it an 84 collectively on metacritic, even though it deserves a much higher score. How can this be? It's the best rpg to come out in the last 30 years, easily. I don't want complicated and messy companions like in the other Dragon Age games and Baldur's Gate. Conflict is bad and it's scary. A co-worker disagreed with me at work and I went into an apoplectic shock and almost called the authorities. I can't take it. We need Dragon Age games free of darkness, conflict, and bad stuff happening. What we need is to sit around, drink coffee, and talk about our feelings. You just wait. Dragon Age 6 is going to be about The Maker and their panties. The start of a prequel trilogy. It'll star their lovable crew of rambunctious Andrastians and his/her pronouns and how they toppled the Tevinter empire with their feelings. Drakon will be revealed to have modern day pronouns, and that they did nothing wrong and were completely innocent. Can't wait.

I'm trying to replay the game but companions are so boring I just keep on making new Rook hoping it will motivate me. Doesn't work. Last night I listened to DAI banters on Youtube and just wondered what happened. What happened, according to a video by one Cosoman I just watched (link below) is the "age of accessibility". The claim is that the at the time incredible success of Skyrim started a trend of making games for broader appeal and broader appeal only, in order to make tons of money with relatively little work. Good old corporate greed, which explains why this applies mainly to the corporate entertainment complex. The live service fad was a part of the same trend. All this worked for a time, because the formula hadn't grown stale yet and the old writers were still there, but eventually things grew recognizably formulaic and generic as a result of appealing to the lowest common denominator. David Gaider was quoted saying that good writing was increasingly not valued by the designers (which is probably one reason why he left Bioware).
So here we are, in an age where most games made by publicly traded corporations are like gaming fast food. Fast food can be enjoyable, but not for long. Maybe the more surprising thing about DAV is that its Act 3 is as good as it is, and that Solas' story actually has some substance and depth. But of course, that is already a legacy of DAI.
Cosoman goes on to claim that with this years' failures, among which he counts DAV, the age of accessibility draws to an end. I am not so optimistic, but then the corporate entertainment complex is not the only source of games. He also downplays the role of blatant social commentary, which in DAV's case probably did some significant damage IMO, but BG3 got away with the same, albeit that was much less intrusive, so he may have a point here.
In any case, here's the video:

I didn't finally start playing until this past weekend, and I'm actually enjoying it so far, but I have to admit a couple things are bugging me and I'm wondering if anyone else has similar thoughts.
First, I have to say that all three previous Dragon Age games did a better job of setting things up. We get a little time with the Warden and Hawke before they're thrust into the main storyline, and while we meet the Inquisitor in the midst of a crisis, we also meet the other characters the same time as (s)he does. My impression has been that the Inquisitor was not playing a particularly important role in the summit and just happened to survive from being in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time. Here, Rook (who apparently decides to go by that name just because Varric came up with it as a nickname?!) has apparently already known Varric for a while and is up to speed on Solas and his plans.
But - and here the lack of imported choices is an issue - how come the effort to stop Solas has been outsourced to Varric, Harding, and a couple of northerners? Why aren't Orlais, Ferelden, and the Chantry - all of whose rulers presumably know about Fen'Harel after the events of Trespasser - doing anything about this (other than asking Varric to handle it, I guess)? What is Rook's motivation for getting involved? I realize that game protagonists are probably going to be more proactive and risk-taking than the average person, but I could still imagine Rook's initial reaction being, "Why are you asking me? Shouldn't the College of Enchanters or the various sitting governments do something about this?" Because it would seem like Solas probably would have, in fact, torn open the Veil if a squad of four people hadn't managed to distract him and collapse the building at the ritual site. Are all the other mages and soldiers in Thedas on lunch break while this is happening?
And while I've only gotten through the first few hours, so far the story feels a bit disconnected from the larger context in Thedas. Apparently our headquarters is literally in the Fade, as opposed to a real-world physical location, and aside from the first part in Minrathous, the rest of the action has been in Arlathan Forest and a single isolated village. This feels like it could be happening in pretty much any generic fantasy setting, with the religious and political structures that we know from past games largely absent. Maybe that will change soon - the scene where what I'm assuming is a Titan speaking through Harding was the first moment that really grabbed my attention beyond just going through the motions of fighting demons and activating artifacts.
(It also seems strange that the setup asks you whether the Inquisition was disbanded but doesn't ask who the Divine is, especially if, as I gather from the voice cast list, Cassandra is eventually going to show up.)

They have nothing to do with the crows, they are fake. Have you read Tevinter Nights? You could see the foundation for this in the crow short stories already. While I did enjoy most of the stories and thought they were well written, I am not surprised about this direction. I already forgot who it was, I think Teia? She only kills bad men, MEN only. Vile sexist rapist monsters. So naturally she's a good person. She's batman. Lucanis himself is a bleeding heart for the victims of the BAD PEOPLE he kills. At least he actually amasses a huge amount of collateral damage on that job you might disapprove of. And his grandma is a hardass and his childhood was not nice, but probably a lot nicer than Zevran's training. So I figured he'd be the biggest bad boy with a heart of gold cliche romance. But there isn't even any edge to his character in the game. He's straight up the nicest guy you've ever met. He's no Thane you could challenge about his work seeing himself as nothing but a tool and therefore free of blame and guilt. Ther is no grayness to any of the DAV companions. The case of Jacobus in the game is indeed almost comical. How much everyone cares about the kid's dangerous anger. Jacobus has endless idle dialogue. Compare that to Zevran and it feels like a massive retcon how ruthless the crows used to be. Sure, Lucanis is a member of the top dogs of the crows. He's basically royalty. So they ARE one big scary family who protect their own. But the scary part got brushed under the rug. In fact, Tevinter Nights still manages to illustrate how cutthroat the different families are, constantly trying to get the upper hand through assassinations and whatnot. There was still some realism in these short stories. Very little of that is left imo.

Love this. In fact, Tevinter Nights still manages to illustrate how cutthroat the different families are, constantly trying to get the upper hand through assassinations and whatnot. There was still some realism in these short stories. In Tevinter Nights Viago tells Teia that Caterina will probably wipe out the whole of House Kortez because of Emil's betrayal. The following conversation ensues: "She'll be fair," Teia challenged. "She be ruthless. Just like House Gaspari." "Who?! "Exactly." Viago smirked. "Mark my words, she'll bring her demon of a grandson back from Tevinter to do the job personally." A shiver passed through them both. Now that was consistent with the Crows we knew from previous games and World of Thedas. It was written by Courtney Woods, who also wrote the Wigmaker Job and subsequently left Bioware. I don't know if Mary Kirby taking over changed the nature of Lucanis and the Crows but it is clear that something happened after Tevinter Nights. Can you honestly see DAV Lucanis as the sort of assassin that even makes two Talons shiver at the thought of him exacting Crow justice on behalf of Caterina? The one in Tevinter Nights would have been dispatched to take out the leader of the Antaam and anyone else they thought a threat. The one in Tevinter Nights would not have messed up and missed his mark twice when in a position to end a fight. (Why was it suggested that it was the demon preventing him?) Nor would the Caterina from Tevinter Nights have spared the life of Illario even if he was family. She'd have cut his throat herself if Lucanis didn't want to do it.

In any case, here's the video:
The video is interesting, and I mostly agree. But the comment section is horrendous. '' But what about WOKE AND DEI? BUT WHAT ABOUT THE WOKE? THE DEI? WHY WON'T YOU TALK ABOUT THE WOKENESS AND THE INCLUSIVITY AND REPRESENTATION? '' That's really saddening to see. While there are issues with how they approach these topics in Veilguard, there's a much deeper issue that boils down to writing, presentation and tone, and Taash being a badly written annoying navel-gazing non-binary loser is merely one side effect of that. And once again, people would rather go '' lalalalala I can't hear you lalalalala '' than admit that Inquisition was an absolute success, one of BioWare's biggest, despite all the '' woke '' and whatever criticism they can cough up it's way (I'm not saying Inquisition is perfect, far from it, but it was a good freaking game). The same thing they do with BG3, instead of admitting that '' woke '' isn't really this one sole blame in the video game industry that all failures can be attributed to, they would rather pretend like BG3 was never a woke game to begin with. I am tired. Very, very tired.

I remember when Antivan Crows were portrayed as ruthless killers for hire that were essentially slaves recruited at an early age and living in a gilded cage of limitless debauchery that helped them cope with the fact that they're nothing but slaves, risking their life for no pay (not including drink and prostitutes, that was more like a honeycomb to keep them in their place). That was an interesting concept.

Speaking of the Crows - and I've already mentioned Lucanis's condition several times before - but I cannot get over how everyone reacts to it. Or rather, doesn't. The Crows give control of their assassin organization to an abomination. Willingly. With no objections.
This world truly isn't the same one we were in for three games prior.

I'm trying to replay the game but companions are so boring I just keep on making new Rook hoping it will motivate me. Doesn't work. Last night I listened to DAI banters on Youtube and just wondered what happened. Even character I thought were weak like Iron Bull are like masterpiece compared to what's in DATV. Motivate you? How about doing a laugh at my Rook playthrough? Create a qunari rook. Make him as skinny as possible. As short as possible. Have the silliest looking hairstyle and beard. Give the hair a very bright color and the beard with a different bright color. Use a paint tattoo for the body with all bright colors. Choose the mourn watch faction. Play as a mage. Every time you have a conversation, you can have a good laugh. It will give you reason to play the game. Hmmmm....I might do this for my next playthrough

Thanks for adding more details. I read TN only a few months ago and already the specifics are fuzzy because fuck my memory. It's ironic how I had zero hope for DAV being any good BEFORE I read Tevinter Nights. And afterwards I was a little hopeful because it was a pretty good read. My favorite story was a crow story written by somebody who no longer works at BioWare, figures. Maybe we're talking about the same person? I looked her up then (don't remember her name though) and she was a SWTOR writer mostly and I think never even worked on DA. Ironic. Just goes to show that good writers do not need to have an extensive experience with a franchise, they can still contribute something good if given proper direction. And those who DO can end up producing poorly written stuff. Agreed on Lucanis having this scary reputation in TN and funny enough they alluded to this in DAV countless times but you see NONE of that. Just endless therapy sessions on failing his job at a crucial point in there story.

Someone said there was a 4th and 5th import choice that were cut but still exist in the files.
It's who drank from the Well and what the Inquisitor's class is.

Honestly at this point it wouldn't matter how many choices carried over given the quality of the writing. So it's probably a blessing that they couldn't ruin more old friends.

Do you really want this game to ruin more characters and plot points with its abysmal writing? It seems very clear the people working on this game couldn't really handled the world they got to work with, so at least they didn't mess up previous choices.
