ah yes, the dialogue. I guess I know who not to talk to, and not to take on quests throughout the game. Don’t worry they’ve promised you’ll have an intimate relationship with them regardless. I think you might be forced to interact/do their quests, but I don't think they said you had to be close to them. There is some indication that it won't actually be possible to be close to all of them at the same time, or at least, that it'll be hard to do so.

Oooo-weee, if that is representative of the writing, dialogue delivery, and lip-synching...this game is going to get crushed...no matter how fantastic the combat may be. Just like Andromeda....except because of MEA and Anthem it isn't going to sell 5M copies and keep Bioware on life-support. At this point maybe it would be best to pull the plug. If only... Veilguard is the most preordered game on Steam now, I believe. People REALLY want another fantasy RPG. Doesn't matter if the writing is worse than MEA, this drivel will sell millions and EA will be happy, laughing all the way to the bank. And these delusional BioWare writers think they did a good job and will repeat that level of quality work with ME5. *shudders* Seriously, what happened to people like Weekes? Isn't he the one who wrote Taash?? Fucking hell, like invasion of the body snatchers or something... At this point I hope DAV is so bad it's funny. Like those trash movies we all watched that were so unbelievably bad that we had a good time laughing our asses off. MEA was sad bad to me, maybe DAV will be the most entertaining train wreck we've ever played. Right? RIGHT?! It's 13th in global sales...which doesn't seem that impressive to me for a game ready to drop in a few days. It'd be nice if we could see that translated to hard sales figures. I'm predicting 2-3 million in the first month...which is still 2-3x what the new SW pulled (still can't believe that). I'm convinced this game is bipolar. The cutesy Disney fantasy visuals with immature writing screams 12 year old audience vs. explicit sexual themes and nudity for the older "shipper" crowd. We gonna have ages 10-12 getting the "bang all the companions" achievement? As for Weekes...I don't know. It's hard to believe the guy entirely forgot how to write.

Short leaked footage involving Taash It's a link to a video, nothing in the spoiler box itself. Just thought I should anyway. But ma'am, this dialogue is giving me hives. Not to be one note or anything, but I got better dialogue with generic NPCs on Morrowind. You know, at least it was far more than "I get that". What the fuck man. lol
Neon Knight was wrong, this is not Guardians of the Galaxy 2022 at all, that game was at least self aware that it would be dumb fun at some points because it fits the characters and the universe.

The writing is narcissistic, amateurish garbage...or are we not allowed to say that anymore. In a criticism thread. We'll see how much of the game is like that, but "narcissistic" does not surprise me at all, coming from people who appear to think their perspective is the measure of all possible worlds.

A bit of food for thought from fextralife. It's going to be interesting when these reviews hit today.

I don’t think I’m going to check this thread much after today/when the spoilers are going to come out in full force, but I’m going to post later a review from a gaming site that has been quite skeptical about the game in the preview and the hands-on.

A bit of food for thought from fextralife. It's going to be interesting when these reviews hit today. Uuuff. Thats a punch in Bioware's gut. Just like I said before, they would have been better giving a code to fextralife knowing he might not give a glowing review, than actually cutting him off. Now many people will stay away just from the bad faith optics. Marketing has been blowing this from the first trailer all the way till launch day....

Going to bet that they may have given codes to a couple folks they knew would be negative on the game and the majority to their eights and tens. It's a smart move for short money. They're 'within expectations' pre-order wise. So long as they can sell enough out of the gate, they'll sail right on to Mass Effect 5 and BioWare will be back! And there is a small possibility that marketing accidentally showcased the wrong title and the game is actually good and the writing is actually better than Gaider's. We shall see.

Ah, my top sellers list was set to Germany, where it is 10, not 13. And DAV got kicked down a bit since I last checked because Hogwarts Legacy is on sale now. If you ignore the free to play games ranking higher, Steam Deck and of course CoD and Forza, DAV is pretty damn high on the list imo. Shockingly so actually given the negative circus on YouTube. So the rage bait negativity does not seem to have affected preorders. Which is interesting. So does that mean the name DA still has some pull even 10 years later or are RPG fans less swayed by rage bait? Maybe because there's not really much competition out there. Gotta take what you get? I wonder if BG3 actually made the sales go up because people have the fantasy RPG itch now. Well, 12 year old girls are big into romance and they'll be giggling their butts off at the nudity. I expect the romances to be super fluffy too. This really all looks like a kid's first RPG with training wheels. It's so bizarre. I get that a lot of players will be new to the franchise but come on! I'm not the biggest fan of gore myself but what they've done to this franchise is wild. MEA felt like it was made for socially awkward 17-20 year olds, and now DAV feels like it was made for little girls who like to play dress up kiss kiss dolls. Why abuse the Dragon Age franchise like this? Just make a The Sims RPG hybrid for that target audience and I wouldn't care and wish them well on their new path. But this is so horrid.

It's also noteworthy that their sales' expectations were seemingly matched when the game was 30, 40 positions lower on steam. Exactly! So by now DAV must be exceeding expectations! As much as I want to see DAV crash and burn if it's indeed as bad as it seems right now, I think it will be a smashing success for EA. BioWare ain't going anywhere. They'll march right on to ME5. And from what I gather from random comments online a lot of people are still excited about Mass Effect. Despite the track record of late. Despite few people liking MEA. BioWare is still beloved for their past glory and people still want BioWare to return to form and they'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Again.

Or some highly anticipated games have been released, which moved DAV up in the ranks without actually increasing sales. Has anything really popular come out recently? (I'm currently replaying Disco Elysium to let you know how up to date I am on current AAA games)

Gore wise I think it will be more violent than DAI (quite a tame game when it comes to that) Sex, it's moaning, grinding and fade to black with some boobies thrown in and maybe some butt. Nothing PG18, because sex wise PG18 is porn. But overall I agree with the made for socially awkward folks in their 20's...there's nothing really mature there as far as I can tell. You fight the big bad with your newfound family, you got a "grey" antagonist with the sad background, you play shrink at the lighthouse and the power of friendship will prevail. I don't even think with the Evanuris, mages that actually suceeded in turning Godlike, we'll get something deep about power and magic and perhaps it aren't such a great thing. Like templars and the Chantry were mayyyyyybe onto something. Or the Qun with their paranoia.

Sorry I just burst out laughing when I saw the pop up that went with this conversation. Way to go to push the modern message about the benefits of multi-culturism. Forget the gender controversy, this one takes the biscuit for imposing real work ideology on a fantasy setting where it doesn't belong. It even beats Cassandra asking why my Lavellan can't be flexible enough over gods to include the Maker in their pantheon and then in JoH it turns out that is exactly what Ameridan did. Yeah. It aren't the best. Like I don't mind the overall dialogue as a random chit chat. But this is not a talk of much substance here so the choice and pop up ...please. No. But this is not a talk of much substance here so the choice and pop up ...please. No. I have a feeling the pop ups in DATV are going to be meme'd like crazy. I had accepted the fact they were included to help the neuro-diverse understand and process what is going on but this example was really out of place and unnecessary. They're just having a chat about Taash's background but suddenly Rook is making meaningful social commentary. Sorry, no, please stop. Like I said - what they're saying isn't a bad thing, because as it was already pointed out, the Qun and Qunari society is....really messed up. But how they're doing it is about as subtle as a brick to the face. Oh so they're finally defanging the Qunari *Grabs popcorn* They were already laying the groundwork for this with Qwyddion, the "Qwnari" back in that anime thing on Netflix(?). Because according to just about everyone, she's not Tal-Vashoth and part of the Qun (because....y'know...they'll just let a mage run around free like that, no problem!). If she is Tal-Vashoth, then someone needs to explain that to them.

Somebody from RPG Codex is reviewing it, it's RPG codex so ...No comment. But yeah...I hope some thing are handled way better than they claimed. I'm just going to post the mechanics reviews. Keep in mind RPG Codex will trash DATV no matter what. Beware language. Anyway, point is, it's woke as fuck. Now, that's all well and good but it gets a lot worse because regardless of political and ideological agendas, if we're looking at this game from a purely mechanical perspective it still reeks. I can't give you an example of a single mechanic I enjoyed. The "crafting" is laughable, itemization is horrible, character builds and progression are meaningless and the combat is the worst offender. It's beyond simplistic with every class and sub-class feeling largely the same. The enemies all feel the same too and the only difficulty the game provides stems from enemies having an absurd amount of health making a lot of fights a real slog. New enemies appear out of nowhere, attacking you in waves. You may think you're going up against three darkspawn, but nah, have fun grinding down these six waves of teleporting cunts that'll never kill you but take ten minutes to finish off.
The absolute worst part of combat is the way the "party" works. You don't have a party, not really. Mechanically, it works like a retarded card deck builder. You see, your two companions are immortal (they have no health bars) and aren't targeted nearly as much by enemies in battles like yourself - they're mostly ignored and do little damage besides. Instead, they only serve one real purpose in battles: for you to use their abilities. They can have three equipped at a time (as can you), and these ability cards are the only stuff that does any significant damage. You're supposed to figure out combos, but there's nothing to figure out. Use ability X to give an enemy the effect Y, then use ability Z that does extra damage against enemies affected by Y. It's banal at best. Moreover, all these abilities come with a cooldown - a cooldown they fucking share, meaning once you use one all three go on cooldown (there's a few exceptions to this) - which means you'll spend most of your time simply auto-attacking and dodging enemies whilst waiting for the cooldown to end.
I could go on and on and on, but I won't (I've an actual review to make before the embargo lifts). This game is an utter mess and anyone giving it a positive review can never be taken seriously again.
....Stay classy, RPG Codex....
I get you're disappointed like we are...but...my dude (the article writer, I want to clarify is who I'm addressing, not you Reznore) - that language and word choice is not needed. You are no better than the journalists you claim to say can't be taken seriously if someone gives this an 8/10 or higher.

I would say, for me, there's a difference between sex dysphoria, as in you feel your actual body is the wrong sex. And gender dysphoria, you feel you don't fit your "gender" role. Sex dysphoria I have great sympathy for. Gender dysphoria ? Who feels like they are the pinacle of masculine or femine? I do not understand it because struggling with gender role; what is feminine/masculine do you fit the bill? is an experience I think a lot of folks have. Then you grow up and realise it doesn't matter. I can understand gender dysphoria in the Qun. As your sex at birth define your gender role in a fairly firm way minus some exception. Cf Sten "women can't fight, they are baker etc.." But overall Thedas like you wrote doesn't have so much of that. Minus the chantry. So what are we supposed to say to Taash if say they're struggling with being a female at birth who enjoys fighting and the Qun is weird about it? I mean beyond the Qun is a bit fucked, you're not the issue?Either way off topic, but I don't understand the current gender debate whatsoever. I got into weird circular argument with folks over the year, that just left me frustrated and I still didn't get it. But whatever I'm not here to punch down, or mock people. Yes, that pretty much sums up my attitude as well. I am not "typically" feminine, never have been, and always fought against being made to conform, particularly by my Mum, but never saw myself as anything other than female. Now that is how I would like to be able to respond to Taash because that is pretty much how I've always responded in real life. "Screw the Qun. You're not the problem, you're just different and it's okay to be different." However, if Taash is already living outside the Qun where's the issue? Sigh.

Yeah anyone whose review contains the word ret*rded isn't worth listening to lol.

A bit of food for thought from fextralife. It's going to be interesting when these reviews hit today. this is a triple edged sword. This will make people review poorly and also, user reviews are a joke. People give 1’s because they’re homophobic, or 10’s because they have one romance option they like. User reviews tell us nothing, the good ones are so rare that it’s almost not worth reading them. Not saying that BioWare curating its critics is okay, just saying that now that they’ve done this there isn’t really a review score we can trust

Not saying that BioWare curating its critics is okay, just saying that now that they’ve done this there isn’t really a review score we can trust Someone at Resetera said they gave out tons of codes so there's still a very high chance they won't be biased to be positive - Dantics got one and they were pretty skeptical. I think the entire culture of content creators getting this kind of exposure and access needs to change, to be honest if we're going to fix this. I'm also not going to base whether a person is trustworthy on whether they got a code early. That's a bit arbitrary, especially since the opinion on the game can shift entirely depending on what your actual stance is on its changes. I just going to stick to reviewers I know are reliable because they share my interests in such a thing.

I think it's early, and it's possible other reviews might disagree, but I think/fear the part about being a good RPG/not good DA experience is going to be present in quite a few reviews.
