andromeda sex scenes are the most explicit in ME I think the only good sex scene is with straight Cora Harper. Can confirm - having done it, Scott is the only one that can have an "explicit" scene. And it's only with Cora; hence why when Andromeda came out and Cora was revealed to be for Scott only, there was so much raging....they had to lock the Cora thread for a few days just to sort everything out and let everything cool down for a while.

Yes, they've tried other things obviously. But for 3 games in a row they committed to a formula and it paid dividends. Do you think Athletes repeat the same practices and drills over and over for fun? No, repetition leads to perfection of the action. Bruce Lee said "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." This is just common sense. Larian made those action RPG Diablo type games because that's what Publishers wanted them to make. Sven and Larian took a huge financial risk going their own way, including Sven at one point having to sleep in his car. It's not the most practical decision but it shows the passion of the studio and the passion of the owner to make compelling RPGs Yes, and Todd risked the future of Bethesda to go their own way and gambled the studios future on Morrowind. We know that Hello Games is a very similar story. Sean Murray sold his House to pay for the studios first game and slept in the office. It's not a common story, but it's not unheard of either. The point is, Sven was convinced "If we do X, people will buy it" He was right, Todd was right, and Sean was right. Bioware knew people loved KOTOR, or ME, or DAO, or Baldur's Gate. But even before EA they would basically never build upon anything they did before to improve and iterate. Did it work out for them? Sure, it worked for a long time. But ultimately they have no foundation to fall back on when they are unsure of what to do. The only thing people know them for is "cringey romances and companion conversations". Now, speaking only for myself, if that's the only consistent aspect of your games, then you better nail those things, and their last 3 games have utterly failed at it. So now, because they change literally everything else about their games every single time, now that they've been in a writing slump they have nothing else to lean on in terms of game design because they have no identity there.

Real actress vs in game...Just sayin...FYKYK. Sure, there's other presets you can pick from, but the CC in that game is pretty bad imo And yea, they are fairly explicit for Bioware...but the characters in question are so annoying or ridiculous you don't even want to. won't go off any further as this isn't the ME forum. I'm definitely doing a preset Sara Ryder run I did a custom job of Sara myself Sorry for the size of the photo...I have no idea how to shrink it. And before someone asks, this was on my old PS4.

It seems they have rewritten how the blight works now. In Dragonage origins we meet a charming little gremlin called ruck who is undergoing ghoulification which happens to all Dwarfs\Elves\humans ect that don't die from the blight. Now it seems they turn into Darkspawn guess Broodmothers are no longer a thing.

No, of course not. Did you think they would allow broodmothers to still be a thing, in this day and age?
Anyway, Fextralife posted an impressions video. Their take is that Veilguard is an OK action RPG, but a disappointing Dragon Age game.

They deleted Desire Demons from existence over a decade ago. They won't even let you RP being an elf racist or whatever.

I think the most damning thing about this game is that it didn't inspire hatred or disgust or any strong passionate emotion - but apathy. It's like staring at a corpse or a husk. It might vaguely resemble a dragon age game if you're half blind, but it's otherwise hollow and broken.

I put around 26 hours to the game already (I have no life) and the whole "modern girl / boy in Thedas" dialogue is HORRIBLE and will be the end of me. Not just Rook, but everyone, especially Harding. When I listened to her recounting moments from the Inquisition and it's crew I should've felt hype and nostalgia. Instead all I felt was pure cringe. NOBODY IN THEDAS EVER TALKED LIKE THAT!!! E V E R. This whole marvel-esque quippyness needs to disappear and stop ruining games. I cannot stress enough how many times my Rook sounded exactly like my Ryder. That should never, ever, be a thing.
I don't think they can ever match the tone and atmosphere of Inquisition. Despite the obvious story flaws, it's still miles better than whatever the monstrosity that is DA:TV's writing. I am beyond puzzled that so many of Bioware's veteran writers worked on this. What went wrong? they cannot blame the DLC team for this. Or visionless multiplayer project forced on them by EA. This was an established IP and a direct sequel. They had all the tools they needed. It seems to me the devs just wanted to make the game they wanted to make, not the game the audience wanted to play. "Community counsel" or not. Sorry for rant but I am at my wit's end listening to DA:TV's dialogue.. and I haven't even recruited Taash yet

I'm a few hours in and the game is... fine? Just kinda mid so far. I will say, and I haven't seen anyone else point it out how exactly does Neve have time slow spell? Seems the devs forgot that time magic was only a thing because of the Breach.

Now it seems they turn into Darkspawn guess Broodmothers are no longer a thing. There's a "lore" reason for that - it's the elven gods' brand of blight, or something. Solas says that the Blight that Thedas faced for hundreds of years was actually just a small fraction of "true" Blight, and the Tevinter Magisters only released that small fraction when they stumbled into his containment facility.

Getting away from dialogue or lore complaints, I got a flavour of what some reviewers mean by boring fight mechanics last night. There was a section of story on You Tube (which is what I was watching it for) and part of this involved a dragon fight. This was a good comparison with previous games because we had dragon fights there, particularly DAI. Now it was the sort of dragon fight where it flies around a bit, lands, you get its points down to a certain level and then it retires to a ledge to fire stuff at you whilst you run around dodging it. Then rinse and repeat. I'll admit I found those sorts of fights tedious in previous games, although often they were broken up by baby dragons attacking you too. However, I don't recall one lasting longer than 10 minutes at the most. Perhaps I'm remembering that wrong but honestly, I don't remember it being longer than that.
Now out of a 30 minute video I swear the dragon fight took 20 minutes. I had put it on to fill the time whilst my dinner was cooking. Well, during the fight (which I left running) I was able to get up put on the vegetables, come back, watch a bit more, get up and go to the toilet, come back, watch a bit more, get up check on progress of dinner, come back and watch a bit more, get up, serve up my dinner and come back with my meal on a tray to witness the last moments of the fight. Honestly, if I had actually been playing the game I would have got so bored.
The build of Rook was a Reaper and they had Lucanis and Bellara with them. Perhaps it would have been faster with a different build or set of companions but it just seemed repeating the same battle tactics over and over again, with Bellara healing from time to time. I also noticed that when companion hits were showing on screen they were often in just double figures (barely in one case - just 11!) when Rook's hits were in the high hundreds and still the health bar of the dragon only went down really slowly. I know dragons are meant to be challenging but did it have to take that long? It wasn't as though Rook ever seemed in any real danger of dying, although the hit points got down to about a quarter a one point. It just seemed you had to be willing to stay the course and not lose concentration. I don't know the level of difficulty they were playing at, so may be it would have been better on a lower setting because I can see why some reviewers advised you do this in order to shorten the amount of time you spend in long repetitive battles.

Seems the devs forgot that time magic was only a thing because of the Breach. Haste is a spell in DAI that you unlock through the Necromancer specialization, after closing the Breach. It's time travel that's not possible outside of the Breach's existence but a small form of time manipulation magic was possible.

Looking back Inquisition was the teaser to a lot of the BS in Veilguard
Inquisition still had good aspects, mostly saved by good companion writing, some quality story missions and the Tresapsser dlc
But its when Bioware slowly started to go PG with the series and also dumb down the RP options
They removed any dark elements, I can barely think of any heavy scenes compared to Origins and DA2. Freaking demons were coming out of the sky and it was all portrayed in such a safe way. The Inquisitor was just handed everything easily (huge army, top advisors, everyone kissing his ass) and also was bland as fuck.
The Mage Templar which was build up was wasted completely, much like Veilguard wasted Solas
You had more evil choices than in Veilguard but barely any compared to the others.
Cory was also a huge joke. Really without Tresapsser the story would be much worse

Especially with the rise of CDProjekt and Larian And BioWare's reaction was to give up and go "OK, we'll make contemporary cringe slop for the masses then since all our old fans have turned away in disgust long ago and we'll never get them back"?? Rather than try and make a good game again? Nobody makes a shit game on purpose. So I have to assume that those currently working at BioWare believe their product is good and that's terrifying, really. Bethesda is hilariously out of touch with their fanbase too at this point. I fought actual exploding husks like in ME3 yesterday btw. Made me chuckle. This game is completely derivative of their past games. It really feels like people with no talent and a surface level knowledge of the franchise wrote bad fanfiction for teens. Somebody said let's do ME2 missions and ME3 plot with a DA skin because that was our most popular game so that should be a winning formula again. Except you cannot reproduce greatness with a new team that just isn't good enough to pull it off. I guess I understand why they went with the ME2 approach. There is nothing wrong with trying to emulate their most beloved game. Hell, I wish Bethesda tried that instead of what the hell we got with Starfield. It's just sad that the current team can't get even close because years of Marvel influence has induced collective brain rot in society, it seems.

Lucanis is held in a prison where the crazy venetori woman was breeding abominations from slaves. You see the dead bodies on tables. Of course this game isn't dark looking enough to really sell the horror most of the time visually. But that mission location was a torture prison. There I was thinking the whole place was an inefficient version of what erimund did. which just underscores your point that the horror just wasn't sold well. Even Lucanis is just gritting his teeth about the experience without going into details to sell it. It really is the visuals and platformer level design that destroys any sense of dread and forboding atmosphere. This torture prison is underwater. The water is kept out magically, so you're basically wandering around a beautiful aquarium, lol. So instead of feeling dread and unease I'm being all "oh, this is so pretty!", lol. Oh right, there are corpses lying around, so I guess this should be disturbing. But it's not. It's BEAUTIFUL down there! The pretty vibrant visuals really destroy what the game wants to convey in terms of narrative. You CAN do colorful visuals and disturbing horror elements. That works for certain games like Bioshock Infinte or something, but not serious RPGs. And certainly not Dragon Age. Compare this underwater prison to the one in BG3 and it's just silly.
They did an open air beach resort prison basically. There are no oppressive dark rooms. No narrow corridors with horros lurking behind doors. It's just walking on platforms with no walls and sliding to the level below in every single location in this game so far. Nothing feels like a real place. It's all high fantasy fairytale stuff. It's a truly bizarre combination that does not work at all for me. And everyone looking like Pixar characters on top sure doesn't help.

OK, we'll make contemporary cringe slop for the masses Yeah except I don't think that's what they made. You look at recent games that have blown up that fit into that category...the two that come to mind: Black Myth: Wukong and Space Marines 2. BM did more than 20M in the first month while SM2 did 4.5M. I don't see DAV even hitting the lower number. They keep chasing the masses with each iteration...and continue to fail. It's been my biggest beef with Bioware over the past 12 years. The correct approach is to maintain the existing fanbase and look for small ways to improve the product. I like to use the Uncharted series as an example. Had Naughty Dog changed the gameplay mechanics with each iteration they'd never had cultivated the community the way they had. Or had they changed up the characters to fit modern social politics it would have damaged the product. I really think EA needs to clean house at the top or sell off/license the IP to a company like CDPR.

The pointless time skip is pissing me off more and more now that the full games out. The timeskip between 2 and DAI was fleshed out by two novels, tie in comics, and a bunch of expository information. Meanwhile post DAI we have a bunch of supplementary stuff that covers 1-2 years post Trespasser at best, and then an egregious 7 year time skip. There’s no good reason that the game should have taken place in the mid to late 9:40s other than that BioWare wanted an excuse to age out or retire other characters. imgur.com/a/eYSy3mA

I really think EA needs to clean house at the top or sell off/license the IP to a company like CDPR. Agreed, if that was the plan it failed. Again. BioWare can't seem to make a good game anymore to save themselves. It might be they have to chase the masses so much because of EA or it might be a case of THINKING they have to do this while EA just wants a game that sells well, and nobody made any specific demands. And they could have just done back to making the kind of games people loved. None of that explains the ridiculous agenda pushing though, so that's all on BioWare and as long as this is a driving force behind the writing team nothing will get better. Doesn't matter how pretty the visuals arey the storytelling needs to be good or they might as well stop making games. They have long been surpassed by other studios, and some of the best storytelling in years haven't even been RPGs. BioWare like Bethesda have completely lost any relevance. Everybody does it better than them now.

The dialogue lines in this game are mostly ridiculous, it's impossible to read. Here it is not even possible to speak of a drop in quality, but of a complete lack of it. Who wrote it and for whom ? I have seen better and more meaningful dialogue lines in recent Pokemon games.

I romanced the turian lady Vetra as dude Ryder and was actually relieved that there was a fade to black. Because let's be honest, nobody wants to see a Turian naked. Then again they gave us Jaal's wrinkled old man butt I can never forget, so eh. I never saw the Cora love scene but what I heard they poured all the budget into that one. I can't wait to see what the DAV version of a love scene is. I mean, BioWare romances we're mostly cringe before to me so I don't quite know what kind of horror to expect. I'm not sure it's even possible to have a sexy love scene when all characters look Pixar cute. There is something very wrong about the idea of Pixar sex to me, lol. Like these two things should never be mentioned in the same sentence... The romance scenes are very disappointing from what I have seen. Bioware was never good here unlike CDPR or Larian but still after Andromeda I was hoping for more spicy scenes especially since they were hyping that up before release. Idk why they hyped the romances. They talked about how spicy and raunchy they are, yet nothing of this is true. All of them fade to black and not naked. The only one that is naked is Taash which I'm not surprised given who's the director. Andromeda will remain their most explicit game for now, and i think the next mass effect will follow Veilguard's footsteps.

Starfield was still pretty successful, wasn't it? 100%, it’s also ahead of schedule on netting their 4 year sales expectations regardless of what those who don’t like it say. They’re also wanting about a billion in $$$ and they’re already more than halfway there with 3 years to go. At worst it wasn’t received well, but it’s very much a financial success.
