Do you have a source for this? I'm afraid not as I'm going by stuff I saw well over a decade ago, probably shortly after DAO came out, which showed approximately even distribution between PC/Xbox/PS and DA has only become more console friendly since then. The Dragon Age subreddit released a Google Doc study showing that PC is still the dominant method of playing the games. docs.google.com/forms/d/1vi-9XTyIx2kvu4hXb309b0NvdWL7Ub_Yj73le6WXzpI/viewanalyticsNow the question is, can this method be expanded to Veilguard? Judging by the target audience which is Redditors, I would say yes.

So those here who are playing the game as well, has anyone found a codex entry introduced in this game that is more than half the length of, let's say, this one? dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Codex_entry:_Andraste:_Bride_of_the_MakerBecause it is no surprise that every codex I'm seeing in Veilguard that is new info, is usually small enough that you can literally read it in seconds.

Wasn’t around when DA II launched. Was the reception similar to this game? Way way worst. This is all tame. Either way it's the third or fourth time, Rook said to Davrin "Turlum, DAvrin, Perhaps It mEANS You TWo Should HaVE Faith In One Another" Yeah Rook keep on saying the same old thing over and over perhaps DAvrin will take a hint. I can't believe it. Don't they have editor to catch when you're repeating things over and over.

Also who is surprised that neither of these companion relationship is a male x male. It's very modern liberal game development: we love the trans and the lesbians, but none of us want to write gay male relationships unless it's a completely irrelevant side quest where one or both of them die What do you mean there is no male on male gay relationship? Emmrich can get together with Strife. I assume it will be okay when he transforms into a lich because the Dalish no longer have an aversion to spirits like they did in the good old days. I'm just glad for Lucanis really. People were trying to ship him with Emmrich before release (on the basis of one screen shot which I thought was nonsense at the time). Still, Lucanis has enough problems with his demon, so he doesn't need any more complications. It was rather funny when Emmrich does his whole reveal to the team and Lucanis made some sort of quip about he hopes he won't look like a skeleton and then it turns out he does. However, that isn't really the tone you want for Dragon Age. The really weird part is the background music during part of the lich quest. It was really light and almost whimsical, like some of the background music when talking with Bellara. Mind you, if Emmrich opts to bring back Manfred from the dead instead of becoming a lich, the tone and music is even worse. I've never encountered a fantasy RPG like it before, let alone one that started out so dark and gritty as Dragon Age did. I watch the videos on You Tube for comedy value because I just can't believe what they did with the setting and not mean it to be an intentional parody.

Also I'm calling bullshit on the whole '' our companions are proud and open pansexuals and will have their own wants and needs and whatever whatever '' Nothing how sexuality is handled is much different from DA2. I haven't heard or seen much of anything about this supposed non-playersexuality outside of Neve and Lucanis getting together, and Taash and Harding getting together. Also who is surprised that neither of these companion relationship is a male x male. It's very modern liberal game development: we love the trans and the lesbians, but none of us want to write gay male relationships unless it's a completely irrelevant side quest where one or both of them die. Granted though, I'm sure I have missed tons of banter and at this point I'm tired of listening through quest dialogue. So maybe I'm the wrong person to make this argument lol. Possibly related is this 2022 extract from Weekes' blog, which is written as an internal dialogue between different parts of their psyche. Note that I think they are talking about their books, not their game writing: Source: patrickweekes.com/2022/07/15/of-gender-and-genre/

I'm mad. I found out something and have to vent. It's endgame spoiler,so beware So Varric is dead the whole time and Solas lied about it. Apart from the fact, that I'm mad, that Varric dies - and in this mediocre game of all things- how is it, that no one reacts? At least Harding should say something, she was close with Varric. This doesn't make a lot of sense tbh. I watched some playthroughs and it gets never mentioned at all. The companions talk about the most meaningless stuff and not once Harding or Neve say, how sorry they are about Varric? I might have missed it, but I watched Wolfheart, who is always pretty thorough in his playthroughs, so I doubt that. Despite it being Varric, I still could appreciate it, if it would have been well done.

You should really see what they have done with Isseya. She was one of my favorite characters from the books. One of the coolest examples of a blood mage done right. Yet Veilguard brought her back and I REALLY don't like it at all.
Same way I wouldn't want them to bring back Garahel just for some cheap tragic tale or whatever.
She deserved the honor to rest in peace at least, but no. She had to come back and do the opposite of all she did in life. Yes, I was pretty shocked they did that to her too. Not to mention there seems to be no explanation how she survived. Why she would want to harm the griffons, though, when she went to such length to save those eggs? Utterly stupid scenario. Still, at least you can get a happy ending for most of the griffons.

Judging by the target audience which is Redditors, I would say yes. Very interesting document. I assume the answers are all by redditors? That might skew things a bit but perhaps not much. Interesting that the PC player percentages go down every game but still much higher than I thought tbh. Unless most reddit people are PC nerds and not actually the majority but I don't think so. It looks like I've been in agreement with the fanbase on most things. Huh! Probably because BioWare games have a fairly black and white approach to conflicts despite attempts at grayness. There is always an ideal path that is easy to guess. BG3 is like that too, mind you. Not saying it's a bad thing. It's what makes for inspiring tales when the writing is good. The high number of non straight players is about what I assumed as well as about equal male and female players. The relatively high number of asexual players is surprising to me though. So there's nothing super surprising about this poll. But an interesting read nonetheless, thanks.

Overall, you are right. The tone is just bad. Yes, there's blood, corpses, blight and demons everywhere, but that is only set dressing, when much of the animation, voice acting and dialogue is just... cartoonish. But I have more thoughts on the matter once I've finished the game. I'm pretty close.. I think.

I might have missed it, but I watched Wolfheart, who is always pretty thorough in his playthroughs, so I doubt that. Despite it being Varric, I still could appreciate it, if it would have been well done. Ah, this is up there among the plot holes for the game. Not just their reaction but the fact they didn't recover him from the ritual site/mention they should send someone to look for him. Or if they realised he was dead rather than injured, why didn't they arrange his burial, or cremation? Apparently they left the dagger at the site, so I presume it was still stuck in Varric. So why was the dagger still there when they went back but Varric wasn't?
There is a really weird disconnect between how people react in game and how normal people would. Plus having Varric still narrating it gave it Sunset Boulevard vibes. I don't know who was responsible for the final "vision" of the product but they have a lot to answer for. Surely they didn't run it past the whole team because wouldn't someone have pointed out the problems? Mind you, if the whistleblowers on You Tube are telling the truth about how it was behind the scenes during development, perhaps they didn't dare.

Venting this here. Not really a spoiler, but it could color your opinion (if so, welcome to your very first online message board! I'm hookntackle.)
I don't like Neve. Yet. That really is a bummer cause she used to be the character I found most intriguing (you cannot overdo the noir detective cliché for me). When I listened to the podcast, I figured it was because the whole thing was maybe more rushed and unusual; but I just do not get her voice direction at all. Hard-boiled sure, aloof even, but her delivery is downright disinterested and for lack of a better word, detached. Which is inconventiently amplified to infinity by being directly next to high-energy-Harding and hyper-energy-Bellara, during the phase we're you're getting to know them all. To illustrate this further, Bellara can be annoying - because of the type of person she is. The acting works perfectly as intended. With Neve, I feel like something is "off". Clearly one hears the actress is a trained performer, but it seems like the director figured this would be "signature" thing for her to double down on. To me, it often feels like a continuity slip rather than "flair".
It's annoying in the same 4th wall kind of way as when in DAI everyone in a single conversation would read Thom Rainier's name wrong, yet completely differently, too.

What do you mean there is no male on male gay relationship? Emmrich can get together with Strife. I assume it will be okay when he transforms into a lich because the Dalish no longer have an aversion to spirits like they did in the good old days. I'm just glad for Lucanis really. People were trying to ship him with Emmrich before release (on the basis of one screen shot which I thought was nonsense at the time). Still, Lucanis has enough problems with his demon, so he doesn't need any more complications. Yes, there's blood, corpses, blight and demons everywhere, but that is only set dressing, when much of the animation, voice acting and dialogue is just... cartoonish. But I have more thoughts on the matter once I've finished the game. I'm pretty close.. I think. Oh yes, you're right. I thought they went together rather well. Then I saw the lich outcome and I thought, I hope Strife is okay with this. Of course if I'd been playing I have told him to save Manfred instead. Just as I would have done if I was romancing him. Better for everyone, even if I found the Manfred learning to speak for the first time rather cringe and laughable. As for how they get together, they seemed to hint that faction members come and go a bit from the Lighthouse and I think Bellara introduced him to the Veil Jumpers because of his expertise with spirits might help them with the stuff going on in the forest, so I suppose that's how it happened. It was also funny because when I first heard Emmrich mention having a date with Strife, I misheard and thought he said Spite. So I had this vision of Lucanis romancing Neve, then Spite romancing Emmrich. That would have been really messed up.

Wasn’t around when DA II launched. Was the reception similar to this game? Honestly the reception was pretty bad for DA2. The criticism was different but I think that was the first Bioware game that was trashed a lot online. In hindsight people like DA2 a lot more but compared to Origins back then it was underwhelming to say the least. The difference is DA2's biggest problem was that it was rushed, thats where most of its flaws come from. Thats not true for Veilguard which had tons of development time.

Wasn’t around when DA II launched. Was the reception similar to this game? Nope. Much much worse. And I think the comparison between these two games is fascinating because I think they are complete opposites. DA2 on the surface looks like an awful game with outdated graphics and bad environments and repetitive content but look deeper and you find a (very flawed but still a) masterpiece. DATV looks like expensive game with new flashy combat and great graphics that they spent years making. But once you start to play you realize it's not good, and that's to put it mildly. Edit - what I want to add to that is that I assume because they are like opposites I think the reactions to them are also gonna be opposite. While DA2 was initially panned hard over the years more and more people gave it another shot and discovered its awesomeness. My prediction is that DATV is a game that a few years from now, even people who insisted it's the best DA they ever played are going to admit it sucks.

I've been playing since Thursday evening on PS and wrapped up the game with 37 hours. Played on story difficulty and didn't explode everything, but has done ~ 85% or all quests. My critique so far: 1. Writing-wise, for me it was a game of contrasts. Every conversation with Solas is top notch, as is the main storyline and it's pacing. Harding, Emmrich, Bellara companion arcs compliment story and lore nicely. I really enjoyed Gray Wardens side quests. On the other hand, we have abysmal moments when I cringed SO HARD. Most of it in relation to Taash. Gosh, she has the coolest qunari woman design even, but every time she speaks I want to press skip. It got to a point that she is the only companion whose story arc I didn't finish, because I couldn't handle hearing her dialogues. Idk what is says either of me as a person, or of the quality of writing, but seeing her die during last mission made me relieved, since I couldn't kick her off the team or decline her recruitment. She has no hook whatsoever beside being an angsty, obnoxious teenager. Baffling, that Weeks has produced both her and Solas. 2. Rook as a character is both inconsistent and bland. No matter what you choose, it's most of the times positively neutral. Purple options is a fucking trolling: non of them are funny, rarely sarcastic. I can't understand HOW they didn't include property angry and emotional dialogue options, especially since the whole narrative is about the ending of the world. 3. Often I felt there was a disconnection between main story and what has been happening in Lighthouse with companions. You travel to location, see the blight, suffering, you can feel the stakes are high (especially in Anderfels). Then you go back to your homebase, and companions are planning a camping trip to Fereldan and actually take it. What the hell. Why do you cheapen their arcs? 4. Mission and level design has some fundamental issues. Half of the quests are: get a quest, go to the location, do something 3 times, return for reward. More enjoyable puzzles are kind of an exception (loved level with lst Solas statue for the murals), a lot of time (and I kid you not) it's bring the rock that's 10 meters away and open the door. Whoever decided that it's okay to arrange a conversation as a separate quest you need to travel to, instead of old fade to black screen, needs to be put in the cone of shame. Imagine the frustration when it happens frequently, you don't have a shortcut for a journal as it's nested in main map, and you need to manually do it every single time . 5. Armors are ugly. There, I've said it. whoever designed mourn watch stuff must really hate fashion. It's the stuff from the Alien movie. 6. UX/UI decisions were baffling and a nuisance. As I predicted, these disclaimers that pop up on the left when you take a decision are both: 1) distracting, as often your reading is interrupted as cutscene ends. 2) often do not reflect what Rook has said 3) spoil consequences quite a bit. It's a if someone thought "huh, we need to show them that we have a system tracking your replies and impacting future events". It has zero information weight, as it mostly reaffirm what has just been said and paraphrases it that you go "huh?" 7. They mistranslated Lavellan elven words. This one hurt, because how ending was executed was far from ideal, but actually following lore you previously established would give her words more grace. Game translation: There is no fate but the love we share Actual translation: Nothing is inevitable. I love you, my heart.

Oh, and about M/M ships I'm 95% certain Strife and Emmrich happen after the team meeting where they went "huh,we need to show that companions are pansexual, not plaersexual (which for the most part they are let's be fucking honest). Who s free...hmmm...or. let's put these two random older men together" Like what the hell XD Even Lucanis/Darvin would have worked better. It's just so out of blue, ffs

Then you go back to your homebase, and companions are planning a camping trip to Fereldan and actually take it. What the hell. Why do you cheapen their arcs? Did they actually say Ferelden? That's odd because the Inquisitor said the south was suffering badly from the Blight. Denerim had fallen and the people of Ferelden had fallen back and were holding the line at Redcliffe Castle. That would mean the whole of the eastern side of Ferelden was blighted and they were only stemming the tide with the help of Orzammar. You would think it wouldn't be a good time for a picnic.

Fereldan. Where Harding is from. Which is in the South. That is currently blighted. And amids hunting for gods, in third act when shit gets really intense. xD

Now I have to first pick the goddamn place I need to travel, wait for the loading screen, then pick the beacon closest to the quest, wait for the loading screen, and then probably go through some fuckery trying to navigate the map and of course there might be some enemies nearby that I don't want to deal with. And oh MAN do I hate navigating these maps. How do you make navigating and exploring WORSE than in Inquisition?! This is Andromeda all over again. The quest design had me almost rage quit. More than the bad writing it was the insane convoluted quest chains that made me almost stop playing. Andromeda was: You're on planet X, you are told somebody wants to talk to you. You have to leave the planet, fly into orbit and take the call from your ship like WFT, WHY?! Then you are told to meet on the planet you were previously on..... At the time I thought, OK, this is the worst quest design I have ever seen but this game was made by the C team and this was their first game. There is NO excuse that the A team that worked on previous games is giving us shit like that again. I started doing some side quests yesterday and I was so confused about the quest flows. It's the same fucking crap like MEA all over again. Wasting my time with stuff like that really pisses me off. Andromeda-like design was my first hint that this game was not for me.

Possibly related is this 2022 extract from Weekes' blog, which is written as an internal dialogue between different parts of their psyche. Note that I think they are talking about their books, not their game writing: Source: patrickweekes.com/2022/07/15/of-gender-and-genre/If as a born male you're not confortable about gay sex between men, it aren't because you're non binary, my friend. And you're fine with lesbian sex. yeah like the average dude. I can't with stuff like this, I really really can't. No offense to anyone but i don't understand people. That Weekes dialogue sounds like it came directly from DAV lmfao
