Barrier and Guard seems gone for the party. Enemies can still have barrier and/or armor on top of their health bar, but it's more like Mass Effect than DAI.
Also, ranged attacks are good against barrier, heavy attacks are good against armor. Yeah I meant like you use the new "Barrier" (via the parry button) to emulate the effect of casting a barrier spell on yourself. I hope they named the ability Spell Shield, since it's basically DAO Spell Shield against all attacks instead of just spells.

I'm so fucking stoked for the new combat system, I never played on PC so DA was never a tactical combat game for me, and I probably spent about 5x more hours on Mass Effect 3 multiplayer than I'd spent playing all Mass Effect singleplayer campaigns combined- I enjoy fast, real-time combat. More dynamic combat in DA is music to my ears, and it looks fantastic. Absolutely can't wait to try it.

Getting hyped by watching some of my favorite videos from Inquisition with my Inquisitor.

After reading all the stuff in the Game Informer article I am somehow even more stoked than I was before. Those skill trees look delicious, I need to play around with them immediately . I was going to go with a melee mage for my first character, but knowing our alt weapon is daggers and it's connected to the Crows, maybe I actually want to save that for my planned Crow mage and go with Evoker first. Too many good choices!

So now in addition to spending an hour in CC, I am going to spend another hour in the skill trees. And I can't wait to play it! It's also great that we can refund the skill points, so we can experiment around. I am going to play a mage Rook in my first run, because I like that mages have barriers that drain mana instead of parry.

Other thing I'm getting hyped for is the companions. Way too early to tell but maybe it can just stand up to Inquisition's well and its starting to get REALLY hard to pre plan an A team...like I usually do but SHOULDN'T do. Because I should just let that stuff happen in game, but I can't help it.
Either way I am now starting to have strong arguments for wanting Davrin, Neve, Lucanis, Harding, and Bellera in my A team...which would destroy how I do them and even thinking about ditching the whole concept of an A team for this playthrough in the first place. Can't wait to meet them.

I'm really hyped for the game generally and can't wait to play it. That's probably because story and characters are what really interest me and it looks like they are going to deliver on that front. I've never been great at combat, at least until I get used to it, and after a break of several years from playing the game, I would have to have familiarised myself again even if they hadn't changed it. Whilst I did occasionally micro-manage my companions in DAI, much of the time I did leave them to get on with it, so being able to tell them which abilities to use but they then act independently suits me just fine. I'm really looking forward to creating my Rook. I'm also looking forward to being a new character rather then bringing back the Inquisitor as my main protagonist. The fact that we have to recreate our Inquisitor at the beginning of the game does seem to point to them still playing a major role in it, so I am content with that.

Thankfully in DAI Varric's skill tree is quite powerful especiall yif you use it right. It's on eof the main reasons why I prefer t ous ehim over Sera most of the time as I d ofind Sera's skills a little moer awkward t opull off. I can use Sera' sskills effectively I jus tdon' tclick with her quite as well as I do Varric's. But I am planning on goin gdown Varric's route on m ynext playthrough.

There are a few games where I actually got into the CC, but they're pretty few and far between (but they are all RPGs)

Yeah there's often one or 2 things that your companions can do that the main character can't like for example on Thessia toward the end of ME3 when Liara uses her encryption knowledge t obreak through th ebarrier. That's why sometimes on some missions characters have to accompany you because you will need an abiiity they have.

That's why sometimes on some missions characters have to accompany you because you will need an abiiity they have. I don't agree with that. Remember what happened in ME2 on the collector ship? It was the hologram that was able to open doors without being on the ship. During the Thessia mission, t'soni could have sent the code to Shepard's omnitool to disarm the barrier, but because it was Thessia, t'soni had to be there regardless.
