First of all, the new building space was announced years ago, with the move only happening fairly recently. As I've said, I did not claim that Inquisition or Anthem weren't profitable, although I've done a lot of numbers work to say that Andromeda's earnings, on launch, were at around a $5 million US deficit. I'm not going to claim it didn't recoup that amount in the coming weeks or months, but in the 6 week launch window, ME:A did not make back its budget. Which is why Montreal was indeed closed. In addition, we had reports from Angry Joe about Bioware Austin being a ghost town and the Schreier article on Anthem, about how positions in Edmonton are not being restaffed. So I don't think EA is treating Bioware all that nicely and each new title so far has seen Bioware downsized, respectively. So no, I don't think Bioware is "special" to EA, at all. But I don't think you'll agree to any of this, or make any concession yourself. So I don't see the point of arguing on this, further. its a particularly annoying habit that I see around...well around...of posting a long arse spiel and then ending with "but I won't respond'...even more so when responses are continued to be made. In this case it's even more suspicious when the source is a comedy youtuber...who apparently forgot he was a comedy youtuber. The funny thing is, it doesn't even work as rhetoric. Nobody ever reads a post like that and thinks "yeah, that guy really knows what he's talking about; I'll just take his word for it." Thinking about EA, I still can't see a case for them being unhappy with the DA team. Whatever you think about the DA2 design -- I wish that experiment had worked, FWIW -- it plainly delivered the revenue EA wanted when they wanted it. (Nobody blamed Jay Leno and his team for the 10PM debacle.) As for DAI, while the extra Frostbite work was regrettable, and maybe somebody should have realized things would be that hard ahead of time, EA gets that money back as long as they continue to use Frostbite in RPG and RPG-adjacent spaces.

I don't disagree with the profitability of the title. What I disagree with is the health of the franchise, in terms of future market performance. I think, while these titles can be considered successes on various levels, they ultimately did a disservice to Bioware as a developer and DA/ME as franchises. They're not games that gamers particularly like or remember. They've grown to be sort of indifferent titles, that gamers may pick up on sale, some months down the line, where sales of the games won't matter to the publisher. I think that DA4 will be the Rage 2 of the DA franchise. Or the Mirror's Edge Catalyst etc. That's how I see it with the gaming public's waning interest in Bioware titles. That's my concern and how I see it. And I do understand that internally, the cost of manpower and talent drop off may not phase a big corporation like EA, as long as a release is made to fill in their FY projections, but I do think it comes at a cost to Bioware and future market performance. And I can't shake that feeling.

Isn't free-floating anxiety about DA a better fit for the Skepticism tread?
Still, it's a reasonable position. I don't personally care to expend any mental energy thinking about whether or not we'll be playing DA5 in -- 2028? -- but there's a significant chance we won't be, sure.
