Well, it's going to be Earth, depending on which one I'll use while the reason for the aliens arriving at Earth in the first place is because they are looking for prothean beacons, with the one on Mars being discovered by humans before the bombs dropped and was moved to Earth for study. But it was never fully studied, because of the bombs. That's pretty much what I came up with for the start. Well that sounds cool The only thing I am struggling on is how to strand them on Earth. If I went for Fallout it would be that a gang of raiders or Super Mutants attacked their basecamp, which ends up destroying their ship. Or Metro which ends up with their ship being shot down by an automated anti air system that was still active around Moscow, or that a radiation strom cripples the ship and causes it to crash land.

Getting eaten alive by a fellow human often creep more rational people. Most people consider being eaten by either predators or fellow humans nightmare fuel. Also That idea will work with all the possible player characters you can imagine. Well One of my nightmare ideas is that a New Player Character and their team goes to a Turian Prison Planet within Turian Space to rescue a Team mate. One of the new Reaper Husks is the Feral Turian Ghoul husk. It is a reference to Reaperized Saren, Geth Hopper, Necromorph Twitcher(think the insanely fast Necromorph), and Dead Space 3 Necromorph Feeder. A barely Sane Turian that is under going Reaper Husk transformation that can speak and taunt you while chasing you down in order to eat you and your team. Because it is a dead space reference character, of course it is just as messed up if not moreso than you think. If I was task to do Reaper Husks within Mass Effect, Cybernetic Space Zombies should be scary as hell.

I think they could stretch to allowing the player to be able to play as an Asari because they basically are human from appearance to voice. Turians and Salarians seem a little difficult to do justice though. It’s a fair bet that turians would be the only other option on the table, judging by their general appeal. Salarians would likely be the least popular choice by a wide margin.

If they did 4 like DA, I see the options being: Asari Human Quarian Turian
Though if resources were an issue, there are other options like Drell since they use same skeleton as humans/asari.

Turians and Salarians seem a little difficult to do justice though. Play as an asari with no option to play as a male, no option to choose what hairstyle the player wants for their character, and a very limited choice to skin color? How many styles of painted eyebrows will there be? If it's an option, then sure, why not. What would the background story be. A former thief who stole armor from dead bodies? A stripper who will stop to dance every time she walks by a pole? Will the character not do anything leaving all the work for the squadmates? Will the main character have information that could help with the mission, but wait until the last minute to reveal that information? Is the character banned from setting foot on asari ships because she likes to do stupid crap like using the escape pods for her own personal use? I for one would like to play as a non-human species in a Mass Effect game, if only for variety and to get away from a human-focused story in a galaxy full of races. In another thread, I had proposed a side story (during the time between ME1 and ME3) where you could play as an Asari Spectre. If you keep a similar class-based combat system (Soldier, Adept, Enginer, and so on), then you may not have biotics on an Asari. You could side-step that problem by having her be a merc in her pre-Spectre days instead of her being an Huntress. Codex would have to mention -- if it does not already (I forget) -- that most Asari are born with biotics, allowing for a few to be born without because of birth defects or whatever. But if you want male-female playable options for alien races, your next best bet would Turians.

I would be ok with playing one of the other races in a ME game. Meaning, you are set to play as a turian or something like that.
What I am not a big fan of is the ability for the player to choose between 4-5 races at the start. I just think to do it really well would swallow up too many resources and quite severely impact the amount of content in the game. Or they would just boil it down to a few lines of dialogue that change per race in which case it's pretty useless as well and not worth all the extra voice recordings they'd need. I think there are better ways to spend those resources in development
Don't get me wrong, I think they did a pretty good job with DA:I with the different player races but you could still see the compromises and I doubt they could spend as many resources on such a feature again soon.
So if we can play as a particular other race, nice, but if that means that we are stuck with a human, i am ok with that as well.
