While Mass Effect takes inspiration from Star Wars, Star Trek, BSG, and even Babylon 5 there are also a lot of call outs to irl human space exploration as well. Shepard is named after Alan Bartlett Shepard, the first American astronaut in space. There is the Armstrong Nebula and mentions of a Gagarin station. Yuri Gagarin was the first human in space. Admiral Grissom and Grissom academy are named after Gus Grissom, one of the original Mercury seven astronauts who died in the Apollo 1 tragedy. A Soviet probe can be found on the Moon in the first Mass Effect.
Elon Musk is referenced in Andromeda. Having the player work for Cerberus instead the Council in ME2 can allude to private efforts in space through SpaceX.
It seems like interest in space has seen a massive revival this year. I remember back in 2013 and 2014 there was not one single show on TV with space travel in it. Now there are huge numbers of astronaut shows, sci fi space adventures, and even documentaries about NASA history.
With the remaster coming out and a new ME in the works should BioWare use the new excitement around space to promote Mass Effect?
I already know a few people who never played the trilogy who are seriously thinking of picking up the remaster.
Can the remaster and the new ME contribute to excitement for space this decade?

Ryder is also named after Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. There is also a system in the Milky Way named Tereshkova, after Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space.

Hopefully the remaster can help create excitement and fill the budget for more Mass Effect. BTW: I think it's funny that people always think about Star Wars and Star Trek first when comparing Mass Effect to other sci-fi. My first thoughts were always Stargate because of the relays and Starship Troopers because of the Rachni. No matter what, I hope that the sci-fi resurgence (looking at you, The Expanse) also helps to bring back Mass Effect on its feet. More interest, mo money, more games? Another BTW when talking about Mass Effect and other sci-fi: The Jaardan being created by a seemingly missing race gave me vibes of this: Maybe the Angara are the last ditch effort of the Jaardan to stay alive as a species?
