So for the past few months, I have noticed every now and then my monitor flashes...and then everything on the desktop is whiter and more washed-out than it should be. Like when I first boot up and get the "WELCOME screen" where I enter my password, that picture for a brief moment is a lot brighter and lighter in contrast, then in the blink of an eye it darkens down. Well, this process happens every so often, and totally at random. I have tried three ways of correcting it and none of them are permanent fixes. I always resort to going into the Nvidia Control Panel under the "Changing Desktop Colour Settings" and toggling from Use Nvidia Settings, to OTHER, then back to Nvidia...and clicking "APPLY". That fixes the problem. But the fix is not permanent.
I have followed both of these links.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/7k8vxh/how_to_fix_nvida_control_panel_colors_resetting/
https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/7b0kpb/fix_for_windows_10_resetting_nvidia_color_profile/
They both work....But not permanently. Eventually after a week or two, the problems begins again.
My dad says it's an issue with my GPU (which I hope it isn't because I paid 1500 dollars for it back in August, September. It's an expensive GPU (EVGA RTX 2080 Super FTW 3 Ultra Gaming), I don't want to have to RMA it so soon.
Please help.

This may or may not be an age old problem, where Windows resets the color settings at logon. I remember first encountering this with WinXP. I haven't had it in Win10, so I don't have first hand experience of it of late. The solution is (if I remember correctly) pretty much the same, though: Disable the Windows Calibration Loader: 1. Click the magnifier and type: Task Scheduler 2. Click the app 3. Navigate to Microsoft\Windows\WindowsColorSystem 4. Right click Calibration Loader and go to properties 5. select Triggers -Tab and disable: At Logon After this your settings should persist. If not, I'm at a loss.

Hey Rewind, I have already done that step, and it iddn't seem to have any affect. But I have solved the problem by selecting "Use Other Applications" in Nvidia Control Panel, and disallowing control over Desktop COlours to be controlled by Nvidia. Instead, using "Other Applications Decide" I have given permission to Windows and my Monitor together to control the picture settings. This seems to have solved the problem. I have not had any issues in 2 days since using this setting.

So apparently it was a case of Nvidia drivers overriding the Windows settings. I was afraid of it, as it can be a real PITA to troubleshoot. Luckily you found the right setting, good job!
