Nine Months...
Just picked up the BioWare Stories and Secrets Book, was sifting through it. A lot of neat stuff in there to talk about, but one thing that caught my eye for Dragon Age 2 was this little gem.
A nine month production schedule for all of Dragon Age 2. Nine Months!
I knew it was tight, it was about an 18 month development period, but less than a year to develop a 40 hour game is terrifying, insane, and frankly impressive at the same time.
It also explains a lot about Dragon Age 2, like why they have the vignette style with Varric as an unreliable narrator was to simply make that the thread of the game. Apparently everything for the script and quest design was also first draft only too.
A lot of what they had in Dragon Age 2 is pretty damn good. It is kind of sad it didn't have the time to incubate to make it grand. But honestly, for nine months of production, it is still one of my favorite games in the catalogue.
