OK, so I have put in major work over the years on the series (over 10 full trilogy insanity runs, multiple other playthroughs of the individual titles etc) but I only got about 20 hours into Andromeda then a life event stopped my gaming for a few months (Mom had a stroke so had to move city back home to help out) so now I'm finally relooking at finishing that first playthrough.
There seems to be a better vibe around the game of late, a cult like status even I've noticed, my question to BSN is: how's the state of the game post patches etc, is there any mods that you 100% recommend for a better experience?
On a side note I'm absolutely frothing at both the Legendary Edition and ME5 news, my heart is reinvigorated once more (my Krogan 2nd heart that is).

So yeah, at least these are recommended (at least by me ): - Better Squad - Shut Up SAM - Asari Tweaks - MEA Fixpack - Faster Kadara Doors - Multiplayer powers in Singleplayer (for that sweet, SWEET double WARP) There are SO MUCH mods so I'd say, if you want visual ones, go and browse. I only used Asari Tweaks, which works nicely.

I would recommend to focus on the main story arc in your first full playthrough, then check the rest thereafter and add what you liked in future ones.
Another tip, I think could prove useful: if you do Nexus quests, do them while doing other stuff, don't fall into the 'go to operations, go to the docking bay, go back to operations, go to planet x, scan this, scan that, go back to operations'-trap.
There is a lot of good stuff to find in Andromeda, but the in-between can be frustrating, because not all great parts are put well together.
So I would say, hurry to get on your own ship and then enjoy great combat, nice level design and some great challenges. You'll find out what I mean.

There's a couple of cool pew pews towards the end and Reyes is pretty cool. Spend some time around him and you may enjoy the game some.

Between this, eagerly anticipating the Legendary Edition and theorycrafting ME5 (so many threads)...well, Mass Effect is back, baby.

Another unspoilery tip just came to my mind, because I also felt that I should play ME again after the trailer for ME next: in Andromeda (or specifically on the Tempest) you can get new dialogue by clicking on greyed out options again. They are greyed out once you have chosen them for the first time, even if new dialogue content pops up later. Sometimes worth it.

I feel into this idea just about recently. Being hyped up about new Mass Effect in the making and the Legendary Edition I was like let's give Andromeda a chance even though people criticized it a lot. And I liked it very much, surely today I am playing a patched version and there still were some very minor glitches but the overall experience was very positive. The only thing I would complain (but that probably comes from the fact that I am a girl and I do enjoy romancing) is that there is too little interaction with LI. I really liked the whole idea of party banter but I was very curious how it will change after I lock in my chosen relationship and... I was craving for more. Like it felt it's out of balance, if someone does a completionist playthrough there could be more interaction, it took me around 100 hours to compete the game, I was simply enjoying my time in the game and a huge part of time in Nomad was silent because my squad members have already run out f the banter. I liked the story a lot, surely you won't get the same impression twice as it was when I got to know the Mass Effect universe but I don't regret playing Andromeda and I am glad that, by the time new ME is released, I will have a more complete experience and knowledge of both galaxies' stories.

I am playing MEA right now and find myself enjoying it allot more then I ever did when it came out because I understand more. Seeing the new ME trailer it would seem it's a sequel to both the original series and Andromeda it seems imo.
I hope so anyway because MEA has allot of good lore and they shouldn't waste it plus the combat and gameplay are beyond fun and addictive.
