Which one you prefer? Which one you use? Which is better?
Confession: I hate the PPR. I hate having to wait full 2 seconds for ramp-up each time I stop firing, I hate not being able to use emergency ammo packs, capped range and impossibility of continuous fire frustrate me, piercing difficulties don't help. Typhoon >>

Which is better
Eh.. both rifles have their highs and lows so its hard to say. On paper the Typhoon is hands down better. Better damage, faster ramp-up, innate piercing, 1.5x damage to armor and the ability to insta-reload with emergency ammo packs are huge advantages. On the flipside the Typhoon also blooms like crazy, has moderate recoil that has a way of sneaking up on ya and has built in "immersive" screenshake, whereas the PPR is literally a laser beam that doesn't recoil or bloom so keeping it on a head sized target, even a moving one, is a point-and-click adventure. Something that would be tricky to do with a Typhoon unless you're shooting from hard cover. Unlimited ammo is also a plus. Especially on platinum on a shit ammo map like Haz Dagger or Condor.
So yeah, both have their advantages and their downsides. No clear winner in my opinion.
Which one you use
Both actually. I use a Typhoon on my volus and a scoped version on one of my human soldiers and have been using it for the longest time on my Destroyer until recently when I found out you can skip the overheat animation on the PPR on the Destroyer by toggling DM on and off (Thanks Vormav!). I tried it in a few games and fell in love with the loadout so now my Destroyer sports a PPR.
Which you prefer
Typhoon, but strictly out of rule of cool. I like the aesthetic of the gun more, and prefer the Typhoon's RATATA-DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA over the PPR's laser sound. Also Typhoon is the only weapon in the game that ejects spent shell casings, how cool is that !

- Typhoon ramps up considerably quicker than PPR and isn't range limited. Quite useful on all characters except the destroyer with DM. - It has innate piercing and damage bonuses vs shields, barriers, and armor, giving it a bit more flexibility in terms of ammo and double hits. - Using TCPs for damage bonus meshes a lot better with typhoon because it doesn't have the cooldown. And also, reloading/popping a TCP instantly regens ammo on typhoon but with PPR, even the ammo ramps up. - Typhoon sounds pretty amazing, and the animation of ejecting shell casings is pretty neat (even though it isn't very lore-friendly in the MEverse). PPR, on the other hand, sounds pretty lame.
So, I prefer the typhoon EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. To be honest, I cannot stand the PPR.

Typhoon. It's not even close for all the above reasons. The only build I consistently prefer the PPR is the no-sphere ACA where I try to follow dark channel around, but that requires playing without dark sphere. So, aside from comic relief, novelty builds, or AR challenges, I tend to avoid the PPR.
The Typhoon's innate piercing and decent clip size make it desirable for a number of fun builds.

i love ppr (sound, visual and damage too), but dont use it that much, as continuous shooting is boring in my book. Recently discovered its the only AR which ask 200 k points for its challenge instead of 140

Typhoon - Like others have stated, i love the shell casings, sound and damage output is impressive. Just point and squeeze and it shreds bosses and makes short work of lesser enemies. I love it on the demolisher...and onslaught of grenades and the typhoon?....that girl will pack a punch. Just put some cyclonics on her since she can be a bit squishy. I absolutely luv it on the the destroyer...a heavy tank that obliterates anything in its path....
Not really fan of the PPR.....sound is a bit on the weak side and eh, just never really was my cup of tea....not a bad gun by any means tho.....just prefer the raw sound of the typhoon...

PPR is boring. If the laz0r was capable of cutting enemies in half, that would be fun. Plus the ramp up and cooldown is bleh

I remember the Brophoon before the Dark Days of the Empire. Before the nerf. Now that was a thing of Glory. Also, the old Piranha. *sighs*

Typhoon, hands down.
PPR feels a bit OP and noobish. Just point and hold the trigger.

PPR is lame and doesn't feel powerful at all. The Typhoon looks and sounds powerful. I even like the recoil and being able to reload. I dislike having to ration my shots with the PPR so I don't overheat. However, I am spoiled by Destroyer/Typhoon so it feels just ok on everyone else. Though I find it strange that I have seen Turian Ghost/Typhoon maybe once by a random.

After Brophoon and Flamerless GT with Typhoon, it just feels lackluster everywhere else. Kinda like PPR on ColDept (pretty much the only way it makes sense).

Typhoon Quarksman is pretty dumb too and so much fun. Stability III, Geth Scanner, and Drill Rounds III are just silly on gold. It's also funny that if you fire the Typhoon for too long the game is just like, "Well that's enough sound effects for you!"

GI//Typhoon is all about the business. Even Phantoms hate that combination.
It's light. The handle's adjustable for easy carrying. It's good for righties and lefties. It breaks down into 4 parts, undetectable by X-ray, ideal for quick, discreet interventions. A word on firepower: Titanium recharger; 3000-round clip with bursts of 3 to 300. And with the replay button, another Zorg invention, it's even easier.
