This thread is going so fast I can't keep up! I'll just make a few general comments. - illusivechad has a point about convection, but since the case is laying flat, this shouldn't be an issue. He's also right about making adjustments after the build, if the cooling isn't up to snuff. - to balance the fans, check the manufacturer's spec sheets for cfm ratings. - I like the split design, it's the best one yet and gives you more granularity. Dell used to make cases like that.- you'll always get turbulence when the air flow hits a wall. In the case of the split design, it shouldn't matter much though. - I thought you were going to cut the bottom of the case open? This leads to so many questions but maybe you Professor rewindbutton have some more insight. Would doing it the way I showed before: cause air fan intake problem into the cpu section?
The exhaust out the top panel would rob the cpu fans of air wouldn't it?
Would this make it worse or better: Or this be better: Since the CPU is orientated the wrong direction to do something more normal with that: ? Also upon more thinking on this would the convection be worse or better if I use cardboard instead of a metal plate for the seal? Or would the fact that cardboard have air pockets create a heat sink type zone in this plate design? That said you got any links to the Dell designs like this so I can do further research? Sorry if this is a lot I am a thorough planner of planning before I do anything -Batman on steroids and amped to 1000.
Also what would be a good record this: film or video? I don't have anything to show this when done. Please don't say cell phone -all I got there is old fashioned classic land-line.

And the "normal" setup doesn't seem to cut it anymore, not in a high-end gaming rig. better if I use cardboard instead of a metal plate for the seal? Definitely do not use cardboard inside the case; with the fans it's a fire hazard. Use plastic or metal, I recommend using aluminium, it's easy to cut, bend and drill. I searched, but couldn't find any pictures of the old Dell case. It was ages ago, but it had a separate section for the PSU, only wires came through to the MB side. Please, take pictures of your project and post here.

#1 step for choosing motherboard: CHECK DPC BASE LATENCY! - After its done and its very very low (I'd say it needs to be under 200µs by default), you can be sure the mobo is not the culprit in message passing, especially for audio.

Any cheap -sub $100 camera or video camera that would work without buying excess bells and whistles?
I was thinking about this for the plate: Or worse probably could just use aluminum foil. Wish it was in black though...
Thank you for the advice. I will stick to the original plan layout then so... That means at least 5 intakes and 5 exhaust: Considering I will be putting door screen mesh for the case fans for the exhaust and intake fans.
Thinking Noctua P12's for intake and Nocuta F12's for exhaust and A12x25's for the GPU fan replacements. Does this sound good or have they got better choices now? Would like to stick with Noctua.

Ok on the pictures side... how and with what? Ok, so you weren't kidding about the land line, huh? Maybe shoot a video with a webcam and take screenshots? Assuming you have a webcam, of course. I was thinking about this for the plate: Something like that should be easy to modify, yes. Thinking Noctua P12's for intake and Nocuta F12's for exhaust and A12x25's for the GPU fan replacements. Noctua makes good fans, so I'd go with those. Like you said, P12s for intake and F12s for exhaust fans. And the more powerful A12s go to the GPU. That should do it.

Ok on the pictures side... how and with what? Ok, so you weren't kidding about the land line, huh? Maybe shoot a video with a webcam and take screenshots? Assuming you have a webcam, of course. I never kid about electronics -though I wish I was in this case -however... Where I live - 1700ft up the side of a mountain in east US. Its kinda of hard for cell phones to work reliably. That or they just so buggy to get a signal that I don't waste my time on them.
So I have seen no reason for spending hundreds of dollars for something that will only get sporadic use -if at all. I also am very truly sorry to say that I don't have a webcam either.
Any other ideas... preferably cheap but still will give adequate resolution -want to save money for all of these components.
I was thinking about this for the plate: Something like that should be easy to modify, yes. Then in the cart it goes. Also going two of these:
For when the bottom and top are eviscerated.
Will the P12's and F12's still pull and expell enough air for that? Actually found the Noctua redux version of the P12 that is 1700RPM
Maybe should make all P12's? Or should I keep it F12's exhaust and P12's intake? Taking note I will be putting screen door mesh between the fans and the outside world.
The irony is I picked up 3 noctua industrial 2000 RPM fans a month ago for the D15...
Yes I know the D15 only uses two fans... Well I intend on doing this: Replacing the stock fans for the industrial ones:
Oh but I am not stopping there. Remember the side panel will have fans blowing down right on the heat-pipes end points? Though they are probably called something different. Anyway I have done the same thing on three other builds and it leads to faster temperature drops and quicker at that.
Plus wouldn't it give a bit more cooling to the CPU second tower and third fan?
Thank you for the continuing advice.

Only buy Redux if you really hate the look of the OG Noctua, or are on a budget.
Chromax is an equivalent to the OG in terms of performance and build quality. Redux is a good fan, but it isn't the same as the original (neither is the price, but I don't mess around with fans, I prefer to pay for quality).
The only real caveat with Chromax (and this exists with Redux as well) - you have to use extension headers, as the connected header is an inch long. OG Noctuas come with long headers, which is pretty great usually.

I got the chronomax F12's
The P12 redux doesn't come in chronomax but is 1700 RPM vs the 1300 of the regular P12
For me color matters little its all about performance. That said... As much as I hate RGB I got some of these after researching that certain colors flashing against the fan blades can make them look like they disappear:

I've never really liked the whole "RGB Craze" where people just go nuts and make their entire PC, top to bottom, inside out, back to front light up and flash so much you could see it from Space. But I will admit the RGB DDR4 from G.Skill does look nice. Though for me....I suppose because I am using a glass panel, I do try to coordinate the colour of my DDR4 with a main or accent colour of my motherboard. For example, my Phoenix SLI is black with orange and white accents, and orange internal lighting......So I thought the best looking RAM would be black. I wouldn't go with bright blue or yellow for example. But that's the builder in me raging who has an eye for subtle details. In the big picture however...especially if I had a case that was solid all around where I would never see the innards of my PC, it is all about performance and how all the components perform together. Visual aethetics is a small detail that, I suppose only matters, for those who have a sizeable amount of cash behind them and who can afford to be picky about little details such as 'colour coordination'.

Agreed. RGB overload has little appeal for me either: HOWEVER using deep blue or cyan...
Getting this:
Viola!
Noctua Fan blades disappear.
Makes me feel that it is not all bad anymore. Performance and practicality matter more than wanting to be the leprechaun at the end of a rainbow.

I'm currently testing out the new fan setup for summer. I've basically added three more 120mm fans on the bottom of the case as intake, and they are synchronized with the fans on the 360 AIO but at a much lower custom fan curve. That gives me six 120mm intake fans (three on bottom and three on side) and the three 120mm fans on the AIO as exhaust mounted on top of the case. Oddly the noise level has been pretty much the same even with the extra airflow. I guess by adding three extra fans means the rest of the fans don't have to work as hard. Hopefully the dust build-up won't be too bad given the more positive pressure inside the case. So far the average temperature reading is about 1 to 5 degrees lower. It's not much but it's an improvement. If I decide to keep this setup, I'll need to use a different video card support bracket instead of the one in the picture.

That said how did you take this picture? I assume by cell-phone.
I only have a land-line and no webcam... So what would be the cheapest option that would give adequate resolution without being forced into getting a cell-phone? Otherwise I will not be able to show mine when I get all parts.
...Also as it is near the end of May... maybe the thread topic name should be changed to PC building 2021. Though as it is now is just fine to confuse and keep those consolers out of here complaining and starting wars...

Maybe instead of a different one maybe just get a second one. Support it with two versus one. The one that I'm currently using is basically a stand. You don't really need two of those. It's only there to prevent the video card from sagging too much. I don't like to put it on top of the fans. It just looks too "ghetto." I have another GPU support bracket that looks like this but it is currently in my other PC. I'll swap them because it is much cleaner looking.

More cases should have built-in GPU support bracket or support arm. Some video cards like my old Zotac GTX 1080 AMP Extreme flex way too much without it. The good thing is that manufacturers now just make the coolers so large that your entire video card just sits on the motherboard (basically leaning against adjacent PCIe slots and chipset cooler) without flexing or sagging too much.

You could have macgyver'ed it: Guess this would define as true ghetto: Waste not. Gulp not. Drink for GPU? :
A true Macgyverism if I ever saw one: Also the bracket below looks more robust and could most likely take more vibration of the GPU over the years with less wear and tear:

Or another free solution to remove gpu sag would be to turn the case on its side... Or get the Silverstone Grandia GD08... The 80mm fans over the motherboard I/O shield made this one not worth it -thus I got the Thor V2 and placing it on its side.
Though now I wonder if those exhaust fans being in the side panel will produce an air stream that will allow me to suspend something... Like this: .... I digress...
If only cubes were big enough and still in style but oh well.

Also the bracket below looks more robust and could most likely take more vibration of the GPU over the years with less wear and tear: That's $50. Mine only cost me like $7.99 with free shipping. It's just there to hold up the video card and it's a solid piece of metal. There's no wear and tear. It will last you pretty much forever and it will never break.

Anything can break eventually even if it takes a billion years. But as long as it works in the interim I guess that is what matters.

Almost every piece of your computer will break before that thing ever does. It's just a video card support bracket. It's cheap and it works. Don't think too hard about it.

I overthink everything. Perk of my personality I guess.
If anything breaks on my system it will be fans dying. Though only had 3 die so far in each system.
Replaced those back then with Noctua's and that is all its ever going to be.
This current rig has been running over 10 years so far 24/7. Though this is only my secondary system its big brother has been up for about six years now.
I build for low to no maintenance and longevity. I mean I use a starter button for crying out loud:

What do you mean by starter button? Like a remote?

Like a remote? Yes every intel system I have had or built has been a dumpster fire. So let me clarify. I build only AMD Systems.
And they are built to last.
Both of these current systems are built on the FX -series. Now do they perform to the Intel equivalent processor?
I don't know. I haven't tested. But I am sure I could increase the performance better than others have with FX processor by using the tricks I know.
Some of these actually still work with Ryzen as well. And according to Cinebench R20 those tricks get it better results than the default Ryzen 3600 that shows up in the system.
Love it/me or hate it/me Intel will always be in my opinion only good for cooking your eggs in the morning.
As to the remote... Yes I use that exact model of remote as in the gif.
