The launch of the 4070 Ti Super came and went. Results? Well, there is a single GPU that sells at MSRP, the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Ventus 2X OC (920€/1000USD), but that's not a very awe-inspiring card. What should I buy then? I'm thinking my options are go for broke, and get the Asus GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super TUF Gaming for 1070€/1165USD, or settle for the Asus GeForce RTX 4070 Super TUF Gaming OC, for 830€/900USD. Thoughts? If you are going for broke, wait for the 4080 Supers and buy one or a 4080 (hopefully slightly discounted).

wait for the 4080 Supers and buy one or a 4080 I was afraid, I'd get sensible advice. All good options, and I appreciate the answers, but I went with the Asus GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super TUF OC. I managed to find one for 990€/1075USD. It's not that I can't afford a card like the 4080, but I don't feel comfortable paying that much for something, that's practically worthless in three years. I mean, I could buy a watch for that price!

How true. Theyre probably already working on the 50 series with, Im guessing something like 48GB GDDRX7, 20,000 Cores, a 3.75 Ghz Core Clock, 3 Ghz Memory Clock and a 1 Ghz Memory Bus and 756-bit Interface that requires a minimum PSU of 1200 watts.
I can totally see that. Imagine if something like that actually came out this summer after all these people just broke their banks to buy a 4090 Super Ti that just released 2 weeks prior...
UGH!

requires a minimum PSU of 1200 watts Funny you should mention that. I tried three different PSU calculators, and they were unanimous: the range of PSUs I normally go for, isn't considered overkill anymore! They all recommend I get a PSU in the 850-1000W range. I'm thinking of getting the Seasonic Vertex PX-1200. As for the waterblock, Alphacool Core 1 looks promising.

I've tried PSU calculators myself and most recommend the 850 watt range, but I had an 850 P2 that was an amazing PSU but when I upgraded to the 10900K and the Z490, I needed one more addition plug that the 850 didn't have....so I upgraded to the 1000 Watt P2 and it worked like a charm. In the event that I eventually upgrade my present 2080 Super FTW 3 Ultra Gaming to a 4080 Super Master....the recommended is 1000 Watts, so I think I may still be good....But I'm tempted to go up to the 1200 range. But those PSUs 12, 13 or 1600 are all 600 CAD ++ So I would be spending 3000 CAD on just a GPU and PSU when I could actually buy an entirely new PC for that cost. It almost doesn't seem worth it; I might as well stick with what I have until it totally gives up the ghost.

I could actually buy an entirely new PC for that cost Yup, prices are absolutely ridiculous. I made a spreadsheet of the parts, and oh boy, this is going to be an expensive build. And we are talking about a mid-range gaming PC. I bought a bunch of stuff during the weekend; no turning back now. I got the EKWB Velocity 2 instead of the Alphacool Core 1. I'm not comfortable with the Alphacool's build quality; the block seems a bit iffy to me.

I'm still using my 1000w Seasonic with my 4090. The RTX 40-series are the most efficient GPUs on the market right now. When I upgraded to a 4090 from a 3090, my entire system power consumption actually decreased by 100-200 watts.

Since I'm reusing the water cooling parts in the new rig, I need to switch the old one to air cooling first. Luckily I've got a spare NH-D15 for that.
This gives me an opportunity to run benchmarks in the current setup, and compare them to air cooling. Stay tuned!
All in all, it's going to take a couple of weeks for all the parts to arrive, and to get the new rig built.

Noctua NH-D15 certainly is a glorious cooler, check the results below: Full dicsclaimer, the 2024 WC results are fully as is, no vacuuming or even topping off the coolant. In fact, all I ever did was vacuumed the filters, and thats it. So the results are as authentic as can be. I'll post pics later how the rig looked like, after all the use and abuse. Oh, and I'm pretty sure the graphics card got better over time due to improved drivers.

That's two years' worth of dust. I hadn't opened the case, because there was no reason to; everything just worked. And I forgot to add coolant, oops! There was dust everywhere, far more than I anticipated. To me, this is a clear indicator of turbulance; top exhaust and front intake are not the way to go, if you want the airflow to be laminar. Don't expect the filters to keep the dust away, even when you have a positive air pressure. The Chipset fan hasn't spinned much, by the looks of it. Not sure if you can see it, but the rad had a nice layer of dust on it. Probably why the temps were higher now, than two years ago. I put a piece of paper behind the reservoir, to illustrate how clear the coolant was. And here's the drained coolant. No sign of growth, whatsoever. Just to remind you, there never was water in the loop, just coolant. I did clean the rad with hot water before assembly, but afterwards, I dried it thoroughly. And it's copper, so it has antimicrobial properties. The tubing doesn't look too great though. I'm thinking the colour comes from tiny particles of dissolved copper, maybe? It kind of has the same tint. As the above table shows, there's very little point in water cooling a budget PC; you'll get the same results with a Noctua NH-D15, or similar cooler. But I did get a ton of experience from it, and I'm definitely doing it again. One thing that's hard to measure, is how the system sounds. The NH-D15 is so efficient, that I set quite low fan curves, and the case now has a solid top panel, but there's still something different about the loop and pump. It's very hard to describe; you'll have to experience it yourself.

I can't believe you didn't clean it for two years. Haha. My PC is due for an upgrade as well but I think I'll wait for AMD's Zen 5 with 3D cache instead. If Zen 5 has a good chunk of IPC upgrade plus better efficiency over Zen 4, it will be a no-brainer for me. As much as I like the 7800X3D, I think AMD's DDR5 memory controllers still have a lot of room to improve.

True.
Equally true. But the memory should work ok @6000 MHz. I'm certainly going to play with it to make sure.

I'm still waiting for more parts to arrive, but in the meantime, let's talk about fans. I've never believed any of the static pressure nonsense, but it was a very difficult subject to disprove, without any evidense. Besides, who was I talking against some of the big boys on YT. But things have changed: here's FanPhys to the rescue. Fans have characteristics, yes. They are different, and usually best suited to different roles, yes. However, there is no such thing, as a static pressure fan, they all are just fans. All fans do, is they move air from one side to the other, thus creating a positive air pressure on one side, and negative on the other. As to the airflow, once that air starts to move, it has momentum, which is affected by many things, like blade aerodynamics etc. The next video demonstrates airflow quite well. Notice, how the suction is fairly weak, while the blow is strong. Jump to 6:00 to see the visualization. Finally, there's this video: That gives a lot of food for thought about fan and rad placement. If you want to cool something, you'll place fans so, that they blow at the target. But PC cases are not that simple, and water cooling and radiators make it even more complicated. In the video above, an all-exit configuration is the most efficient, but is it practical? In most cases, probably not. I plan on making an all intake build; we'll soon see how that goes.

Canada Computers has one single 3080TI FTW3 Ultra gaming GPU (12GB) for 980.00 Clearance price 1, 112 after tax).....I'm very tempted to upgrade my 2080 Super FTW3 Ultra Gaming. OR should I buy a much newer 40 series such as the 4070 Super TI Aorus Master (for 1,318 after tax). Question is....Which would fit beest on my Z490 AORUS Master motherboard and play well with my 10900KF?
Note: I play games at 4K and have generally been able to get a solid 60 FPS (preferabbly on ULTRA Settings which I've so far been able to achieive in all the games I own using a 2080 Super FTW 3 Ultra Gaming) Games like ANTHEM, Fallen Order, Jedi Survivor, Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy, Battkefront II, Horizon Zero Dawn. I have a 10900K, 32GB DDR4 @ 3000 and a 1000 W P2 80+ PLatiunum PSU from EVGA all inside the H500M from CoolerMaster. Though because of the 60hz limitations of my present monitor I always use V-Sync.

^Sorry, quotes still not working. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the step from 2080S to 3080Ti rather meager as upgrades go? So definitely get the 4070 Ti Super. But like I said before, you have to have a specific goal in mind. I'm upgrading, because A) I now have the money to do so B: I want to see that RT goodness with my own eyes. Well, eye, but you know what I mean. For me, 60FPS @4k would be quite enough, and I'd probably wait a bit longer. But if you decide to upgrade, your rig should be fast enough to handle the 4070 Ti Super without bottlenecking.

But if you decide to upgrade, your rig should be fast enough to handle the 4070 Ti Super without bottlenecking. I do have a specific goal in mind: PLaying Forbidden West on ULTRA at a rock-solid 60FPS with RTX ON (if they have it and it is implemented well) Shadows of the Tomb Raider did it well, I thought. The difference in the Jungle was amazing. Jedi Survivor, not so much....I only saw some minor differences in the neon lighting on Coruscant and I actually didn't like it. I preferred it without. But as for specifically the 60 hz +++....I honestly don't SEE the difference or the point in going above 60 because my eyes aren't perfect 20/20 (more like 20/30 or 20/35) plus I also have other visual deficits to overcome such as depth perception (not that I"m Legally BLind or have Low Vision by any means whatsoever)....I can track a golf ball in the air a good 300 yards on a nice day, but my point is some people say they can literally SEE the additional, individual frames and I just don't think that is possible. Then again, I've never gamed on anything higher than 60 hz so I really wouldn't know. So I wouldn't ever go any higher than 60hz...But now that I"ve used 4K for the past four or five years, I would not go back down to 1440p and certainly not 1080p. So it's like you said Rewind, 60hz/4K is quite enough. Thanks for the reply, bud.

I do have a specific goal in mind: PLaying Forbidden West on ULTRA at a rock-solid 60FPS with RTX ON But as for specifically the 60 hz +++....I honestly don't SEE the difference or the point in going above 60 because my eyes aren't perfect Then again, I've never gamed on anything higher than 60 hz so I really wouldn't know. So I wouldn't ever go any higher than 60hz...But now that I"ve used 4K for the past four or five years, I would not go back down to 1440p and certainly not 1080p. So it's like you said Rewind, 60hz/4K is quite enough. I had to google those Ultra settings, and apprently Forbidden West is using DLSS3, which would require a 40-series card. So there's that.
I haven't seen higher than 60Hz refresh rates either, but it seems, that 60Hz<<140Hz<<240Hz. So there's that as well.
That said though, my son is playing ranked games in Fortnite, and he's practically gaming on a potato, so IDK. And I am going to upgrade my monitor asap.
