I know it isn't technically Q4 yet, but I've started the build. Some parts are still in order, but I expect them to arrive soon. First impressions: Fractal Design Define 7 isn't all that big. I'll post pics later, but let's just say that, if you're planning a custom loop with a large GPU, buy the XL instead. My problem: optical drive + a 280 cooler + pump-res-combo + two 140mm front fans equals a lot of space already used. I may have to ditch the optical drive, we'll see. To free up some space -you could replace with this:

I can find some that have the Ethernet port but they are all older verions with not enough ram etc. Grump grump grump You can look up Acer Aspire 5. It's a good laptop that's relatively inexpensive and it also has an Ethernet port. It is an older laptop design with a mediocre screen and keyboard, but you get a lot for your money. Now I think of it, they also come in 14" model. So it might be what you're looking for. I stopped dealing with Acer long ago due to sneaky tactics they would pull in model lines. And it seems they are at it again.
Some Aspire 5's seem to be being sold as: "Windows 10 in S mode". When you configure it out of said mode your asked for a license key -which isn't being provided and you gotta buy.
Seems the A515 version of the Aspire 5 is the most notorious for this. The A517 seem the most unaffected but still if going Aspire 5 be sure to TRIPLE check the OS and not get had.

Grump grump grump Yep. They seem to want to streamline and RJ45 has no place in making that a possibility. If you end up having to get one that doesn't because it has what you want versus those that do. You may be forced to get something like this:
I have shopping bags full of computer chords from 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago, 20 years ago. Actually probably not as many now as I took a bunch of stuff to recycling a while back.
5 years from now hdmi and usb ports will be replaced by the latest awesome sauce tech.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure you can just switch back to Windows 10 Home for free without buying any new license.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure you can just switch back to Windows 10 Home for free without buying any new license. I would hope so... Though I do see a scenario where it won't work and you would be stuck.
And may even create feedback loop: Windows Store is required for part of it.
If you delete Windows Store -you may end up in this sort of feedback loop. Maybe that is what these reviewers -looking on Amazon reviews of the AA5's models have done...
Or they are just whiny crybabies... who knows.
I am not an aficionado of laptops -so I will leave that in your capable hands.

Nah, it's very easy to switch out of Windows 10 S and it shouldn't cost you anything. Even Acer has a video that shows you how to do it. Not a big deal at all. By the way, I wouldn't recommend manually deleting Windows Store from your Windows 10. Because if you ever need it again like when you need to update one of your apps, it's a pain in the ass to get it back.

I believe those reviewers may have removed it. I certainly have: Though I would think that it being the S mode would have the power-shell locked down. Can you confirm? If so they definitely pulling legs and creating fear mongering.

Windows 10 S can ONLY run apps downloaded from the Windows Store. If you remove Windows Store from your Windows 10 S, your device is now a useless piece of object. Good luck fixing that yourself.

Remove a crucial component a step too soon and a borked system they have.
Though once they had it as home or pro from the SMode then they should feel free to remove Windows store.
I actually condone Windows Store removal -along with Bing, Edge, Cortana & Skype. There are such better 3rd party options out there than those abominations of programs.
For me though I will stick to Win 10 Enterprise in this new build.
I don't want Win 11 if no Enterprise -- please no Star Trek puns -heard them all B4

You actually removed Cortana completely? What do you use? Classic Shell? All of those programs and Windows Store -I have indeed removed. They are located here: C:\Windows\SystemApps
I showed the hidden files and used the TakeOwnership context addon and deleted them. Cortana was a nusance but if timed right she is completely removed.
I don't use Classic Shell since it has been discontinued for Windows 10... I use: MS Word 97 -yep it still works in 10 -otherwise I use the Open Office suite. I use Explorer++ for hard drive searches -Windows search function in Win 10 is a broken joke. I use: DuckDuckGO for web searches -No Google - Yahoo -for email. I also used THIS to get back the MS Win7 classic games.

My loop is running, my loop is running! Just a test run, but no leaks so far. Pretty good stuff that soft tubing. And the EK D5 pump is impressively quiet I must say. Only way to make everything fit inside the case was to dump the 140mm rear exhaust fan. We'll see how it runs without one.

What do you guys think, would it be too much overlap if I started a thread about overclocking? Or just keep the testing in this thread?
I don't plan to do any serious OC (budget build and all that, besides, there are more entertaining outlets for that) but I aim to do a lot of fine tuning and was thinking of reporting it here.

First off I can't tell if your serious but thank you for making me realize I need to update my signature's first hashtag. Second it is a shame you never heard of it -its actually more secure -at least for now than Brave's search.
I think it was here in this thread where I said I value my privacy. And google is no where near private:

Though maybe a thread name change would be appropriate: PC Yearly Builds -with Odds & Ends? Other than that I don't see issues.

[Build results] Memory timings prior: And later: Later values are XMP timings given by Crucial. I also raised the voltage from 1.20V to 1.35V. These are pretty basic values and should work just fine. Ran MemTest64 without errors.
Edit: You'll notice that the frequency was all bonkers before.

Well the M,F and U clocks along with the main Voltages were all bumped by the XMP profile. Though I question why they halved the ProcODT... Was it to remain stable?
