I actually had to manually disable the Power Down option for the RAM in the BIOS. I think it was casing some stability issues in some games early on. I'm also testing out the new 32GB DDR4 3600 Crucial Ballistix kit that I got. The Hynix CJR on my G.Skill Trident Z Neo run uncomfortably hot @ 1.35-1.36v. They can easily go above 60C in games. Hopefully the Micron E-die on the Ballistix are a bit better. AM4 is a relatively old platform at this point. AMD has since fixed most of the USB connectivity and PCIe 4.0 related issues, but it seems like there are still some bugs that they need to iron out. A lot of Ryzen 5000 owners are still having random restarts and WHEA errors. I'm lucky(?) that I don't have any of those issues, but then again I don't overclock my PC because I really don't feel the need to.

In rewindbutton case its disabled in both the before and after cases. Most of those restarts have to be from one of two things: Either from the overclocking -where the Motherboard can't keep up or BIOS needing an update. Not to mention Ryzen 5000 is still the newest of the line so the errors are bound to be there. Still Ryzen 2nd gen's bugs seem all but gone from my interactions so far. While it may be old -I like old since the bugs do indeed get worked out.

PowerDown is a power saving feature that lowers the usage of the RAM at idle times. It can create issues for certain people who don't put computers to sleep or turn them off often or... Playing certain games for extended periods that are GPU heavy usage but not CPU heavy usage ->50%+. In these cases some games to the OS can actually be seen as running the computer at idle. This can put certain games into an unstable state when the ram basically takes a dump so to speak. And thus get instability as it takes the RAM a bit to catch back up.

I doubt it we just know what we know you know? I'd say it's this. I mean I like to test and push the rig to the limits, while keeping the temps at a sane level. That was the whole reason for getting a water cooled rig. But afterwards, it's back to basics, because it's more than likely fast enough as it is.

Cleaned the fans with some canned air but the fan directly over my graphics card starts at max speed and never stops. its a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760. I'm wondering- do I have to replace the whole unit? I'm not finding just the fan part. The graphics card itself seems to play Baldur's gate 3 on lower settings fine. The fan just sounds like it's going to die while it's doing it

Install MSI Afterburner and check your temps and GPU load, just to make sure the card hasn't been hijacked by mining malware.
Hardware failures are usually due to either PWM module or cable fails. You can probably find replacement fans on Amazon.

However don't fret there are fixes: Just get 2 120 MM fans and do this: Then connect them to a molex power connection via this type of device and have complete fan control: www.amazon.com/dp/B091GVD4J9

I have another pre built desktop I bought in 2010, maybe I could make some switches I had the 760 Dual FTW from EVGA, and that is the only card I've ever had to RMA-- but it wasn't for a fan issue (to behonest I forget what the reason was). But again, I've only ever had one card RMA'd and what I got in return was a brand new card. Not an already used and refurb'd card, not even my own card refurb'd and shipped back to me....But a brand new card directly from EVGA. I've heard a lot about MSI (people the Service dept at Canada COmputers tell me that MSI doesn't always used solidly built parts for their stuff. Bearings and fan often have high coinl whine and burn out more quickly than competitors', and the PCBs in their motherboards don't have the copper and gold count or the same solid build. I've heard that the PCBs in MSI Boards often have quite a bit more 'flex and bend' to them than say, Gigabyte or ASUS. So for that reason, I've tended to stay away from MSIs products. And then there's the 30-series card scalping scam.....and on and on it goes. But like everything else I suppose they build both good and not-so-good quality stuff.

My only concern is that the case is very tight That's an understatement; it's practically a laptop. Can one move the guts of this computer to a standard sized case? I found very few pictures of the inside of the case. It would require quite a lot of tinkering. If you are a seasoned PC builder, then.. maybe? If the MoBo and PSU are standard ATX or ITX, for sure, but they don't look like they are. The good news is, that GPU looks to be a fairly standard GTX760, so you should be able to find a replacement fan for it.

For your current case maybe some streamlined fans: Like the Noctua-NF-A12x15-PWM -which has a maximum of 1850 RPM: IF you can get past the color -its the fastest and quietest of the slim-line fans I have found: www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-A12x15-PWM-Premium-Quiet/dp/B071W6HJP6Most default GPU fans spin at about 1800 RPM minimum and have a max around 3500 RPM. So sound at 3500 RPM would be expected. Since the efficiency of default fans isn't the best.

I have another pre built desktop I bought in 2010, maybe I could make some switches However in my opinion it SHOULD fit in a standard case but case mounting screw locations may not all fit. Duck-tape may be necessary to make sure it is snug and tight in the chassis: Motherboard: ASUS H97-I/G20AJ/DP_MB AND IF YOU can transfer it successfully to a bigger case... Try and get two Noctua NF-A12x25's instead -since they will get even closer to 2000RPM: They are the best fans period for cooling a GPU -aside of the Noctua industrial -but those can get loud. I used two Noctua A12x25's and lowered temperatures 10*C -even under load. Problem is they are not slim fans and would make things in a tight place even worse. For like all Noctua's A12 fan line they are higher speed, quieter and more efficient than almost any competitor of similar value...

I'm liking the new rig quite a lot. water that will eventually have to be replaced I plan on changing the coolant once a year, no biggie.getting rid of the gooey gunk and mess of a draining There's no goo in the loop, unless you put it there. It's just water and additives. I'm going to make a small change to the loop, so I'll be able to tell you more about draining it soon. More build news and pictures incoming. Well if you never changed the coolant there will eventually be goop there -after 5 years or more. And having to replace it is just so... inefficient -I don't like down time. Again probably comes from my philosophy: build it and forget it. Having to drain and refill would look promising to me if you could use the PC while doing so. But if you like doing this yearly maintenance I won't stop you. I just realized changing the fluid is like the PC's got a diaper that needs changing -UGH!

No not lucky just either smart or dismissive of overclocking because of your system... Why would you even need overclocking with your system being what it currently is? I feel the same way... are we being arrogant of over clocking? I doubt it we just know what we know you know? I was thinking that perhaps it had more to do with the silicon lottery. Considering that the 5950X is a little bit more difficult to work with for some odd reason. A lot of people still have stability issues and WHEA errors with their 5950X even without overclocking. Maybe they should underclock and undervolt the 5950 a little bit to gain that stability back? I know. I know. Underclock! How dare you! The irony is it sometimes can increase performance -especially if you bump the other CPU modifications.

If a hardware is unstable under stock settings, it is defective.

Still some people will not RMA who have actually been burned worse in that process.

Maybe so... The question is which is defective the CPU, RAM or the Motherbaord? I think it's the CPU since these are well documented issues among 5950X owners. People have reported that the problems simply went away when they swapped the CPU with a 5600X or 5800X. Some have also reported that the replacement CPU from their RMA didn't have these issues. It's one of the reasons why I would refrain from recommending the 5950X to any of my friends, even though I love mine to death. Still some people will not RMA who have actually been burned worse in that process. I mean there isn't much to do if you got a defective CPU that you couldn't fix. It's just like what you said before. No way was I going to to be using that in a machine that I can't allow to be compromised.

It is still running in the machine my brother is using but should anything fail -I will expect it to have troubles. If I had not been able to repair it -I would have stored it for later when I could use the metal for something. RMA is something I would only ever do in person and not online or at the store where I got it. I would go straight to the manufacture's door step -which something that just can't be legally done.
