Gah, me unhappy. The Cablemod custom cable arrived and it has a loose wire. I can probably reattach it, but honestly, this is not something I am comfortbale with. There is a lot of power going through the thing. Don't want my DIY efforts to screw the whole setup. And their factory is closed for the next few weeks, so the RMA would be done some time after February 6th. Ah, well, more time to reconsider the future bad purchase of a 4090, lol. Sorry to hear that. You should definitely contact CableMod and have them replace it. If you still plan on getting a 4090, I can give you a tip. Once you've fully inserted the 12VHPWR cable into the card, it is gonna be VERY difficult to pull it off because of how tight it is. So if you must disconnect it, do it very carefully or you'll risk damaging the card. For me, it's actually far easier to disconnect it from the PSU side.

Still someone managed a 30% overclock... if true that would put it in 4090 territory would it not? Only if that 30% overclock actually translates to 30% performance increase. Most of time, it doesn't. I don't have any experience with overclocking the 7900 XTX, but the current widely-accepted overclocking method seems to be a bit more complicated and unorthodox. First, the 7900 XTX already run very hot compared to Nvidia's RTX 40-series GPUs. Second, the AMD reference cards aren't very good for overclocking due to their power limit. Third, there are also MANY reports of defective reference 7900 XTX coolers causing overheating. We are talking about a problem that is way more widespread than Nvidia's melting 12VHPWR connectors and it might require a recall. So you're much better off with a more expensive board partner card with a 3x8-pin custom board design, a beefy custom cooler, and an increased power limit. Unlike traditional overclocking, you don't touch the clocks at first. Instead, you increase the power limit to maximum and you slowly undervolt the GPU until it is no longer stable. Once you've reached that point, you increase the voltage a bit to keep it 100% stable. Now that you've found the lowest stable voltage, you can begin to increase the maximum GPU frequency. After you've reached a stable GPU overclock, you can then start raising the VRAM frequency. Keep in mind that higher clocks don't necessarily mean better performance. So just keep testing, benchmarking, and adjusting the clocks until you get the best benchmark numbers without crashing. The thing is if you're spending more money on a board partner 7900 XTX, you might as well spend a bit more on something like an RTX 4080 which offers similar rasterization performance, slightly better power efficiency (10-30 watts lower at the same framerate), much better thermals, significantly better ray-tracing performance, better upscaling with the DLSS, and Tensor cores for your CUDA apps. Remember that the RTX 4080 is already a terrible value even compared to the RTX 4090. It's mind-blowing that the $1600 4090 actually offers better performance per dollar than the $1200 4080. In conclusion, they are all terrible value for the asking price. Both the 4080 and the 7900 XTX need to be priced at least $300 lower. $900 MSRP for the 4080 and $700 MSRP for the 7900 XTX. First off I found that guy and turns out he was talking 30% on the 1% lows -however found another that has good results in Timespy. I digress though for I would never buy from reference for GPU's -its common that they are under designed just to meet the lower specs. I would recommend only going with the best designed PCB -F&HS don't mater they can be removed for better. In this ironically enough AMD heatsinks used to be -don't know if still are easier to remove than Nvidia Reference designs. That means if I am going to to get a card it better have a good PCB... While the 4000 series and the 7900 series are the new generation I would be more inclined to get another 3000 series or a 6000 series GPU and let these fiasco generation become dust in the wind. As far as I am concerned if I ever need RT, DLSS or more CUDA I will just set my PC to do the job and go to the go cart track for the day while it does the job needed to be done. I think it probably be given a new name if this is what overclocking a GPU is gonna be like from now on maybe: OUV Clocking sounds good? That said I would just use this guys' OC as a starting point for both the XT and XTX versions: That all said I would say if they want it to really sell then they need to take your suggestion and another $150 mark down.

You really need to take your own advice and stop playing games while having your PC doing encoding at the same time. Yes, go drive some go kart or something and let your PC do the work. If you MUST play a game like STO, use a separate PC. Or better yet, finish building that PC so you can finally speed up your work. You have a brand new Ryzen 5900X. It's time to retire that FX-8370.

Just a thought to add to this good idea.... Caulk it GPU side so you don't accidently try to disconnect it maybe would work as a reminding tool... My Seasonic isn't a native PCIe 5.0/ATX 3.0 PSU. So the PSU side of the cable is actually very similar to the 8-pin PCIe connectors. So you can't mistake that for the 12VHPWR connector.

Must I? This CPU has been quite a workaholic these last 5-6 years and still running like a champ even in sub-zero temperatures outside. Even though 5 of my 16 or so fans in this system are dead it still runs fine at 9*C to 20*C on air. So the rush is on true to be done before the heat arrives. Sarcasm aside I am indeed working on this. The more I think about building this pine desk the more I think I may be asking for more than I can actually do but still wanting to try. Though I guess anything is better than those "gamer desks" I need something like this but for 1/4th the cost: I said I would start looking to Amazon for hard drives. As such I began looking and found the drives I have researched and decided on but the thing is I don't know much about the reseller. I looked at reviews -some good and then some deplorably bad. Do you know anything about Hyperhawk they got a good or bad reputation?

I don't think so. You don't need to waste money on a CableMod cable if it's the PSU is PCIe 5.0 native. Just use the cable that comes with the PSU. The only useful thing in that case would be CableMod's 90 or 180-degree 12VHPWR adapter.

They have the 16TB Seagate Exos for $250. Yeah they got them. A few things however. After further research I found that I do need non-OEM drives. Say what you will about Newegg but lately they usually ship OEM drives despite listings saying otherwise. One reason is of course OEM drives are a gamble from third parties and like PSU's and GPU's -I don't gamble. I research and research and research hard drives more than any other computer component. The other reason is most OEM drives usually come in an anti-static bag and NO protection whatsoever. Still too wary of Newegg and their poor hard drives shipping practices. At least when I got these two WD Blacks sometime ago they came "boxed with end feet" but that was from Amazon... I think I will test Hyperhawk first. Also 16 TB has a lower shock threshold, bigger platters and more write heads than the lower Exos capacities. To some this may not be an issue but for the endurance minded -decade long endurance -it does. The more moving components -the more parts of failure -no this won't make me go water cooling for this applies there too. That said I am going to do this bit by bit -testing the Hyperhawk company -supposedly they are a verified reseller of Seagate products. I will get one -verify and if good get another and another till all eight drives are acquired. I will bend the knee and stay with two sizes: 4TB and 12TB as much as I wish I didn't have to. That is the good thing about waiting on hard drives till last -if your needs change you can change.

True and your right they are the dual adapter connections so and I don't see the 90* or 180* on their website either. These are the 90 and 180-degree adapters. You don't want to bend the power cable too much or you risk damaging it. So you need one of those angled adapters if you have a smaller PC case and you don't have enough clearance for the 12VHPWR connector. This picture shows you how little clearance you have with some of the PC cases. It is also one of the reasons why so many RTX 4080 and 4090 owners are vertically mounting their video cards.

At least if anything happens like damages during shipment, it's far easier to contact Newegg and have them refund or replace them. I've bought dozens of HDDs from Newegg without any issues, but I know nothing I say will change your mind so you do you.

I'm sure you've already seen this but, yeah. Yeah its not the Afterburner Program but RTSS that is the issue here. And shame on MSI for being so stuck up not to pay someone who has done so much for them. I don't care what anyone says: they work for you -this is the bottomline -there is no discussing this: YOU. PAY. THEM. Otherwise they should take their talents to someone who will pay. ZOTAC or Gigabyte I am sure would gladly pay for his services. Though if Afterburner closes down we will be left with only two semi-good GPU tweaking tools in my opinion that has come a long way: Gigabyte Xtreme Engine Utility and Zotac Firestorm. Still HWInfo64 -if you run AOT mode or if you run a in window -or want the info in the taskbar -with HWINFO64 RTSS DISABLED it can still do what RTSS does:

\Source? MSI owns nothing but the license on Afterburner. Afterburner and RTSS code are owned by Alexey Nicolaychuk if he terminates Afterburner it is most assuredly that he will terminate RTSS. No RTSS no OSD -unless the other way I mentioned or Steam Overlay suits your fancy. Exactly, it's because of losing funds. RTSS is a separate project and it doesn't carry the MSI name. RTSS also doesn't get any funding from MSI to begin with. So it will continue to be supported and will also receive future updates. Just watch the one of the videos if you need sources. MSI also claim that they're coming up with a workaround to keep the Afterburner project going.

Still no one should pay attention to that if MTBI rating is below 90% overall in my opinion. Yet I do since the average of all four is still 95%. Still my earlier comment does stand. If AB is nuked that will leave us with Gigabyte Xtreme Engine Utility, Zotac Firestorm and maybe EVGA PX1 -if EVGA still decides to support it.

Don't worry about that. As for now, Afterburner still works even for my 4090. You should worry about building your PC instead. That's your priority.

Since July 7th of 2021 Ive been running a 10900KF with 32gb DRR4 and a 8gb 2080 Super FTW3 Ultra Gaming, and Ive been running 4K at 60 FPS or more.
I try to run my systems for a minimum of 5 years....But with the recent advancements in hardware and insane Game requirements like Forspoken requiring a 3080 just for 1440p....I wonder how long I'll be able to run my system before I need to upgrade to a PCIE 5 and DDR5 system. . . ?
I have recently dreaded upgrading because I cant off-load old systems so okd hardware that is perfectly good is just sitting around collecting dust...so new systems feel like a waste of money.

I've been dragging over upgrading. Should I upgrade? My present MB is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 3192 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s). GPU is a 3080ti.
If I upgrade, it'll be the MB with ram increase to 32 along with a new main drive. Ram is 16 at present.

3080ti is still a damned good card, OG.
May be worth looking at the rest of the setup, especially the RAM, given how things appear to be heading with soon to release games. If I were in your position, I’d upgrade the base box and just put the 3080ti in the new system. Unless you’re wanting 4K gaming, of course.
