So my dad and I have the same monitor, the BENQ PD3200U, a great monitor, we both really like it...But two years ago when I was testing Dad's monitor to see if I liked it before I bought the same one....I accidentally dropped it. The plastic casing and frame was noticeably cracked and over the last two years there has been a growing amount of light bleeding from the left side of the panel and now it is pretty bad, and only getting worse. Dad had mentioned that he was looking to buy a new monitor to replace his, and since he likes the monitor so much....I have offered to sell him mine for $400.00. It's in perfect condition, but it is four years old- hence the family discount, but I do think that 400 is still a good price and a fair price. One that we can both live with. Not sure the Canada exchange rate but it is on sale for $579 or so dollars US -regular of #899. So a $180 discount isn't unreasonable. Still if its damaged and if your father is of the old guard and heard that flat panels have mercury and is concerned with it leaking out tell him BenQ doesn't use mercury. To my knowledge no company uses mercury anymore. Thank god for advances in technology. All that said -Is it legal in Canada to sell damaged products -even if only aesthetical damage? I found this but not sure how current or if it even applies or not: www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/consumer-product-safety/reports-publications/industry-professionals/industry-guide-second-hand-products-including-children-products/guidance-document.html#a3Don't need to loose a fellow builder to bars... no not the after hours kind... you know what I mean.

I would then buy a new monitor to replace the one I am selling my dad. The monitor I am seriously considering is the BENQ MOBIUZ EX3210. 32 inches, 4K 10-bit IPS panel 144hz Refresh Rate, 98% Colour Gamut, 1ms RT and HDRi600. THe only downside for me is that it is native AMD Freesync Pro, not Nvidia's G-Sync. But the one monitor I had with G-Sync was a flaming heap of trash from the day I bought it (the ACER HK3321). So I am just as well to stay away from Gsync or Freesync....And I don't think I will need either given the 144hz refresh rate and 1 ms Reponse Time, which I'm sure my RTX 2080 Super Ultra Gaming GPU can more than handle. Let me settle this for you... ACER monitors are junk -period. As to the syncs' when you start getting into the upper monitor eccheilons I would rather leave it disabled. Its not really important -just another gimmic -unless you like that sort of thing. It also in my opinion takes away from the value of the inside components having to be devoted to sync operations instead of even more accurate colors that IPS are known for.

So this BENQ MOBIUZ EX3210U is 1249.99 at both CanadaComputers, Best Buy and Amazon.ca but with the sale of my PD3200U I'll only need to pay 849.99. I think I will buy it from Amazon because this is the only spot it is in stock. I am hoping to buy it for my birthday, which will be just in time for Jedi Survivor! When any monitor makes it to a desk and its a flat panel then the monitor itself is a Survivor. Irony aside. If you buy from Amazon the last week of the month is always best. That seems to be the time that Amazon usually puts things on sale.

Its not really important -just another gimmic -unless you like that sort of thing. It also in my opinion takes away from the value of the inside components having to be devoted to sync operations instead of even more accurate colors that IPS are known for. I actually bought an Acer Predator XB273U GXbmiipruzx for my CS:GO rig. It is a 1440p 270hz IPS panel that supports backlight strobing with ultra low response time and also very low input lag. The color accuracy is also great after calibrating with my Calibrite ColorChecker Pro and the free DisplayCAL software (100.2% sRGB gamut area). It is probably the best 27" gaming monitor on the market right now. The IPS glow is minimal and the color uniformity is also excellent. However, Acer's user interface is pure garbage and it is really a pain in the ass to set it up. So if you want better color accuracy, you really need to calibrate your monitors and your TVs with a good color calibration hardware like a Calibrite ColorChecker. That's like a $200-$300 investment but I think it's worth the money since most monitors and TVs don't have the best color accuracy out of the box. As someone who uses variable refresh rate like G-Sync and Freesync, I don't think it's a gimmic. You probably don't need it for competitive gaming like Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 or CS:GO, but it works wonders for everything else. If you want the best gaming experience without any screen tearing and minimal input latency, you need to use variable refresh rate. Once your framerate goes above your monitor's refresh rate, you'll be getting a lot more screen tearing. So it's important to cap your framerate a couple FPS below your monitor's maximum refresh rate. Using variable refresh rate tech like G-Sync and Freesync will further reduce the screen tearing. The traditional Vsync increases your input latency significantly, but G-Sync and Freesync don't. So it's basically the best gaming setup. That is also why many new TVs like the LG C2 OLED support G-Sync and Freesync. That's just coming from me who use these features everyday. I also thought they were a gimmic until I tried them myself.

They however used to be know for a great many problems one of which was unit failure within weeks to months of warranty expiration. Not to mention their deplorable customer service. I know they used to use ECS motherboards in EVERYTHING so if you check the monitor's motherboard and it isn't ECS most likely they have indeed changed. They still burned a lot of people back in the day saying they were going to honor warranties but never did or tried to get out of it.

So they are finally putting GandF on the same monitors? At least companies have learned that lesson. That said I will take your word for it that it isn't gimmicky... though does it still hold true if you run in Windowed mode with the tearing being less?

Freesync and G-Sync both support windowed mode. Generally speaking, they don't work well in windowed mode. It really depends on your monitor, your game, and your setup. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't work well, and sometimes they don't work at all. I play all my games on fullscreen mode because they generally run smoother and stutter way less.

Weird. I have the exact opposite problem. Tear full screen but not much windowed -even if fullscreen windowed has less tearing than full screen. You're using G-Sync? Because I was talking about G-Sync. If you want to reduce tearing, you have to either use Vsync or one of the adaptive-sync methods like G-Sync or Freesync. Most games run better and smoother on fullscreen mode but that doesn't mean you get less screen tearing on fullscreen mode over windowed mode. Screen tearing isn't the same as game stutters. If you want to reduce screen tearing and don't want to use Vsync, G-Sync, or Freesync, you can just do what I said in my previous post. Manually cap your game's framerate a couple FPS below your monitor's refresh rate. You'll still get some screen tearing with this method but it's less noticeable.

I know they used to use ECS motherboards in EVERYTHING so if you check the monitor's motherboard and it isn't ECS most likely they have indeed changed. They still burned a lot of people back in the day saying they were going to honor warranties but never did or tried to get out of it. The Monitor I bought back in 2019-20 was the ACER Predator HK321. I did a lot of research and everything I watched said this monitor was the best of the best. Excellent build-quality, beautiful picture, fast response time, fast refresh rate, plus all the best tech for Gaming including HDR and G-Sync. So on paper it was everything I wanted. I paid 1500 and change for it, and from the day I got it....I was completely losing picture. *Black Flash* (ON/OFF). So I swapped out 5 dfifferent cables both HDMI and DP (same issues) three different video cards- even bought the new 2080Super Ultra Gaming (I was using a 1080 FTW3 at the time, which I thought may not have been powerful enough to support 4K at 60hz at a 32" screen size)....and even the 2080 showed the same problem. I stress tested and bug checked all of my hardware....and everything came up with 1000% PASS. I then called ACER and they troubled-shot things for me, and I walked them through everything I had done myself before calling them.....and after running their own tests.... THEIR conclusion was "the only thing that has not been tested is the G-Sync Module itself, and though it is rare for one of those to fail or be defective...it can happen, and it will produce exactly the issue that you are experiencing. So we will refund your money no questions asked. A full refund. Just take the monitor to your nearest post office or UPS to ship it back to us and you will receive your full refund three days after we receive it." So after that I bought the monitor I have now, the BENQ PD3200U and it has been amazing. Plus, *Bonus* it was only 849.99 and it is still going strong. Great monitor, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to do Creative/Content/Editing/CAD kind of work or even 4K/60hz Gaming. It's great for 4K/60 Gaming. Just a beautiful monitor. But in 2005 I also had another ACER monitor, I forgot the model but it was a 19" LCD. Dozens of dead pixels from Day Damn 1, so I sent it back to Staples. Also had troubles with LG, too....so not hyped on them. The 2010, W2453V LCD monitor from LG. My sister has it now and has not had any issues with it as far as I know....But when I ran it, it continuously went into power-saving mode at random times for seemingly no reason. Especially right after turning on my PC. So then I bought my Dad's old samsung.... a really nice 27" with a resolution of 1920x1200. Very good monitor for the time. I forget the model name but it was a good one, used it for years. Then I bought the S27D850T (which I still have and it still works great) but I now used the PD3200U from BENQ and it is my favourite of all the monitors I have used.

I don't think I've ever gotten a monitor that doesn't work properly or has a dead pixel. My last couple monitors and TVs have been fine including my LG 27GL850, 65" LG C2 OLED TV, and the Acer Predator XB273U. However, I've been trying to order expensive hardware like monitors and GPUs from Best Buy lately. Just in case if something went wrong, I could easily return them to one of the stores instead of mailing them back.

Just take the monitor to your nearest post office or UPS to ship it back to us and you will receive your full refund three days after we receive it." But in 2005 I also had another ACER monitor, I forgot the model but it was a 19" LCD. Wow, you sound like you have the worst luck when it comes to monitors. Hey BMW. Yes...of all the hardware and peripherals that go into building a PC, you could say the one I have had the most trouble with is the monitor. As you can no doubt tell from my post above, I've had bad luck with several major brands, ACER, LG namely....so now I am hesitant to buy anything from any of them even if quality really has improved. The one brand I've always had success with in the past is Samsung, and I would buy another- except I don't like the curved screens. Can't stand'em. Yet that seems to be the only thing they produce these days in their mid to high end gaming department. And after using 4K @ 32" with beaitiful colour and brightness in the BENQ, as much as I like it I don't think I would be able to go back to the smaller S27D850T (27" @ 2560x1440/59hz, 5 ms RT) from Samsung that I was using previously. And as for BENQ, I think this is my new go-to brand. My dad has had at least two othe BENQ monitors over the years and they have been very good all around. And presently I am very happy with the PD3200U. Yes it is designed for things like Animation, CAD, Graphic Design, 4K Video/Photo Editing etc etc (and that is where it truly excels and really showcases its best qualities)....But I have found it makes quite a good 4K Gaming monitor (if 60hz/60 FPS is all that you are wanting). AND it is far less expensive than many of the top-tier so called "Gaming Monitors" out there (*cough* ASUS PG32QX @ 3499.99 CAD), even the ACER XB321HK was close to 2000.00 CAD when I bought it three years or so. NOW (I just checked Amazon this moment) it is 3,000 CAD! So, if my dad agrees to this deal of my Pd3200U to replace his damaged one.....then I hope I will be able to buy the BenQ Mobiuz EX3210U.

No G-Sync. Not using Vsync either. I get more screen tearing with both the G and Vsync off in Fullscreen and less in Windowed mode. Don't understand it. Maybe its the multi-tasking but it should be the opposite in that case. Probably just Windows 10 being Windows 10.

Maybe Acer has changed since they put Predator in their naming scheme. I understand your blight. I have seen similar. Like you I fair off ACER. It doesn't matter if its in-store or straight from the factory Acer never arrive trouble free for me either. Not saying their newer stuff won't circumvent this -maybe... I have never had a BENQ monitor... Since BENQ was a part of ACER till 2001. That said if they are as good as you say I may take a look at one as a backup later this year. My usual go to for Monitors and TVs used to be Westinghouse. One of their monitors lasted 10+years at 24/7/365 with no problems. Seems though that they may have gotten out of monitors for the most part. I can't find any of their monitors that fit the LG 27GL83A-B the only IPS they have is a 32 inch and curved -barf. I did forget though about AOC they are the only company that promises NDP -should have remembered them sooner.

CDPR have finally added the frame generation option in Cyberpunk 2077 and wow. DLSS 3.0's frame generation feature actually works great, as long as you have a relative powerful GPU that can produce high enough normal frame rate to begin with. So you need something like an RTX 4080 or 4090. For demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, I don't think the frame generation will work well with a less powerful GPU like the upcoming 4050 or 4060. By enabling frame generation, you introduce some graphics artifacts and also more input lag. It is a bit noticeable for me, but I'm also capping my framerate only at 140 FPS and my 4090 is already powerful enough to get more than 100 FPS most of the time. Less fake frames generated by motion interpolation means less artifacts and probably less input lag as well. Another downside is that you have to enable hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling which actually decreases the performance in some games. Still, I think it is worth the tradeoff because it makes a big difference in busy areas like the markets where you get the most framerate drops. Now I can actually max out most of the graphics options while getting a steady 140 FPS most of the time. It is an unbelievable experience and I might need to replay the entire game again with it. So I'll keep testing.

Just an update on the build... The desk got switched around. It will take about three hours to build: Problem is even with the feet its too short. Yes. Too tall for my own good. Guess I am going to have to go IKEA Alex after all. -------------------------------------------------------- Drives are ordered and here is something bmwcrazy is going to laugh at me for: I ordered the 12 TB drives -they were out so sending me 3x14 TB drives at no additional cost. Along with the 14 TB ones I am getting 5x4TB.

These things depreciate in value faster than a half eaten ice cream cone. Since I'm already hitting a bit of CPU bottleneck with my 5950X and RTX 4090, I'll see if it's actually worth upgrading to a 7900X3D or 7950X3D. Otherwise, I'll wait for the 14th-gen Intel and 9000 series Ryzen.

All that space for storing your porn, eh?😄🤣😂 Here is the loadout: Drive 1 -4 TB Main OS drive Drive 2 -4 TB: AUDIO/VIDEO EDITING Drive 3 -4 TB: AUDIO/MUSIC/VIDEO FILES Drive 4 -4 TB: COMICS Drive 5 -14 TB: ABANDONWARE/CLASSICS/STEAM GAMES Drive 6 -14 TB: WORK MK 1 Drive 7 -14 TB: WORK MK 2 Drive 8 -4 TB OVERFLOW As can be seen the majority of the space is for work. The final 14 TB is for my steam library which will soon exceed 500 games. That does also include classic games from my childhood like Museum Madness. It will also included abandonedware games like Project Nomads-which Mass Effect Andromeda ripped off with the floating islands. Project Nomads vs Mass Effect Andromeda: Project Nomads: ME:A: Not much else to say there -I am a nostalgic gamer. My game library should be close to maybe 800 games or so when done maybe more; maybe less. As to the 4 TB's... The first is obviously for the OS -for some reason having a big OS drive makes things load insanely fast if you got massive free space -kinda like a SSD even though its a basic HDD. The second of the 4 TB's is for TV shows and movies -4TB is kind of overkill though. The third is for Video and Audio editing. Such editing can take A LOT of space. I have found a way to convert comics via scanner to PDF -though 400MB for a 25 page comic is not right still that is the forth 4TB role. The final is as its name suggests OVERFLOW -if any drive fills to max it overflows to this drive. This drive is locked however if less than 75% compacity on all drives. As to your statement... Har Har Har. You haven't looked at my signature have you? I fall on the far end of the spectrum labeled: "I don't need that in any form. Its a distraction from getting work done.

It isn't just the PC being built -I have had other things that need to be done: Chief among them is getting this building resealed -it is flooding in wet times -snow and rain. Which led to this desk being rotten and needing replacement in the first place -something only doable post March. The flooding led to that desk linked above indeed getting axed in favor of the Ikea Alex design.
Its a bit more expensive though but it will be easier to assemble and lighter than the rotting one I am using now. Though to get the strength I need I am going to double the countertop thickness -which should give a 600LBS weight compacity: go two tops screwed together on to Oak cabinets -if that even correlates to strengthening the weight. Doing it this way can let me tear it down quickly to get to the sealing -unlike the above shown desk or the one I am still using. Satellite is becoming more expensive than cable so I am manually rewiring for cable.
Phone company goes poof so getting phone rewired too and no I don't nor will ever use a cell phone and no it isn't because of conspiracies' -though some do give pause. Its just the stinking things are just too expensive and too long term to pay off. Not to mention the spotty reception in this area anyway. 1700 feet up incline isn't the best area to be building cell towers safely -I think they are but I will always be skeptical till a phone is $15 bucks period with no gimmicks and is monthly $0 -till then I will stay landline. There are other issues but those are rather personal and nothing related to computer or hardware... lets just say insurance woes. I understand your annoyance it may be annoying to someone who is go go go. I prefer to be methodical and take an endured approach. Remember I built my last personal system in 2015 but "the process" started in 2011. Still that system as antiquated as it is -still runs fine. This new system is being made to endure LONG term -10-15 years not just be a fad one off system to be replaced when the next generation comes out. THE DIGRESSION: It is getting built ever so slowly but quicker than the old one did -wouldn't that be considered progress? LOL.

I suppose it's progress, but you could do a lot better especially if you were more methodical with your planning. You should get the basic things like your house, wirings, furnitures, or whatever done before you start buying parts for your new PC. It's about priorities. Especially for things that depreciate and become obsolete the fastest. Like the CPU and GPU, you can always buy them in the last minute. So you end up with newer and better products or more savings if you chose the previous generation instead. Making money isn't easy. Spend smarter.
