It's on 4k so the colors will be more saturated. Imo it looks better (foliage etc).

While I agree the atmosphere on Eden Prime with the dark red sky is a bit better, the lighting is just so much good looking now with the new version. It's more realistic, there's more details and there's more foliage and stuff around. I just finished Mass effect 1 'cos I wanted to have a more fresh memory of how things were and from what I've seen so far, I'm pretty happy with the changes.

They changed the whole atmosphere here. Seeing them now, the lighting was better on sovereign. They could have kept the red sky but I don't have much of a problem.

I like the red sky better for Eden Prime. They could have just added smoke and fire in the distance to make it seem more real. It's a planet under attack and Sovereign leaves a huge crater. It seems similar to something that happened in the Halo 1 remaster. Played the campaign in December as part of the MCC. It was great but they really killed the mood of the 343 Guilty Spark level but making it too bright in the improved graphics when it needed to stay dark, foggy and gloomy for the atmosphere.
I guess they wanted to make it more in line with how Eden Prime is talked about before you land and then when you go back in ME3. I love how Feros looks though.

I find that scene gorgeous. Better shows Eden Prime being a garden world. I don't think it's supposed to. There's a comment Kaidan makes when he, Jenkins and Shepard touch down about how Eden prime smells of fire and death. Something like that. It shouldn't look like sunshine and rainbows. Not to mention that the destruction by Sovereign, would have shot up dirt and fires/smoke to blot out the sky. The point was to have Eden Prime look apocalyptic, especially with the imagery of the husks. Not be a cherry orchard. It effectively undermines the menace and might of Sovereign.
But that's just me.

it might technically look better now but the OG set a better atmosphere for the story.

it might technically look better now but the OG set a better atmosphere for the story. It's something I've been saying from the start. 4k rez, 4k textures, improved lighting that fucks up the look and feel of the games. It was guaranteed, day 1. It's literally every remaster ever. Except TLoU.

Admittedly Sovereign looks a little more intimidating in the original shot but overall looks better in remastered shot.

I agree that in the original looks better in terms of atmosphere and lighting....the remaster does look improved, with cleaner visuals and better lighting, but Sovereign looks a bit more menacing in the original due to the color pallet....couldn't they have captured that same feel with with the red sky and darker feel in the remaster?......i think it looks better overall, just that things are cleaner and brighter....
I guess what i'm saying is that with the remaster we should have improved visuals, but we shouldn't lose the dark themes the original had....

It's not just a matter of "too colourful", the colour palette is completely wrong. The comparison pic I took including the system's star. I love colourful when it's done right, but in this case looks like BW is abandoning lore and visual story telling for a quick remaster cash grab. Quoted from this article: Why Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Doesn't Use Unreal Engine 4"As an example, Walters pointed out how Kismet--a visual scripting language in Unreal 3--has no exact equivalent in Unreal 4. "Which means every moment, every scene, everything would have had to have been essentially redone from scratch and we knew, at that point, that we'd really be taking away from the essence and the spirit of what the trilogy was," he said."
From what I'm interpreting that's a not-so-subtle way of saying "we didn't have enough time and/or money to do better"
lol why am I taking this so seriously even though I love OG ME1's aesthetics. Who cares about mise-en-scène in this day and age right? Just give the game HD textures and reuse the same lens flare over and over again. As long as it still looks sci-fi-esque and cinematic it's good.
Will still keep an eye on future screenshots. Go crazy with bloom and particle system and whatnot just LEAVE THE COLOUR PALETTE ALONE

I like this human, s/he understands. Maybe BioWare can include an option to swap back and forth between the OG graphics and the new stuff? Halo: Master Chief Collection did it. Command and Conquer: Remastered did it. Why not Mass Effect?

The comparisons remind me of the contrast in colour palettes from DAO to DAI...not that they are the same games but the bright colours seems like an art style Bioware is leaning towards now. I personally like brighter colour palettes with a wider spectrum but I can see why it might change the atmosphere of the original. I'll reserve judgement til I see some actual gameplay of these locations though.
