So I just completed my playthrough of Mass Effect 3, one that I started several months ago using a saved import from ME 2....and when I was finally finished, I was pleasantly and very contently both satisfied and reminded of the amazing emotional journey that the ME OT is; for me, it is especially the third installment. And with the Extended Cut....the more I play even just 3 on its own as a standalone game, the more I like it. Not that I didn't love it before, but the Extended Cut does bring more fullness, more closure to the entirety of the story for me. Is it perfect? No. But then again no game is truly perfect. Yet I am reminded that the perfection of this game and the enjoyment of this game (and the previous two installments like it) lies not within the merits of any one installment on its own, but the strength of all three together telling a complete story that when taken as a whole....tells (what is for me) the most emotional, most enjoyable, most engaging story of any game I have ever played. The frustration and spite (towards the Illusive Man), the laughter and tears.....those moments that pull at your heart and even cause you to cry. All totally worth it.
I know there's a lot of hype (some good, some not so good) around the Legendary Edition (and the changes it has brought to the franchise)...But for me, the best will always been the original releases...even if they are between 10 and 15 years old, they still look and play great and these are what I will stick with.
Such amazing characters, such fantastic writing and fun gameplay. I enjoy these games for the emotional journey that they take me on as a player.

To this day, the Mass Effect trilogy is the one series in existence that has positively and irrefutably changed my life. To many fans who played, it was simply a great journey and game. Which is great, but it remains nothing more. For me, it was everything. It saved my life. It got me out of the closet. Commander Shepard taught me the phrase "I will not let fear compromise who I am" and mShenko showed me further what a successful, happy and beautiful gay relationship could look like. I wanted that for myself in this life and I have Mass Effect to thank for giving me a second chance and allowing me an incredible relationship with the man I love.
Emotional is an understatement!
Thanks for sharing.
