All-
Does anyone know if Bioware plans to host an official fan forum for Mass Effect Legacy? After they shut down BSN in 2016, many abandoned fans seemed to have ended up here. It would be irritating if, after everyone has moved here, Bioware decided to respawn a competing forum for the remaster. I hope that they instead they see the value of this community, and direct the traffic here!

If it happens, I guess we'll all decide then how to proceed, in the meantime though, welcome to the new unofficial BSN!

The problem with sponsoring a forum is that you need to maintain and moderate it. Otherwise the spamming and trolling will make your brand look bad. Despite having dedicated Bioware employees, the original BSN had a widespread reputation for being 'toxic'. This was largely unjustified, but the perception was there. A reboot would have all the same old problems. It would require hiring or moving personnel to handle it. It would require policies to be adopted and that requires some one to think about it. Time is expensive in games and there is no direct benefit to the company for incurring the additional expense. If EA made the decision to reopen the BSN then they would need to confront the problem of brand protection. As much as I loved BioMod7, I think she/he has moved on and a replacement just would not be the same.
[Edited for more response]
Additionally, these sorts of forums are rather old school. Proboards itself is having some financial trouble. Almost all message boards are seeing declining traffic over the past five years.
And to hammer home the problem with message boards, one of the big Science Fiction/Fantasy houses just shut down their message board because of 'cancel culture' concerns. From a business perspective, it's probably best to let amateurs (especially reddit) do the heavy lifting. If it gets too out of hand, that's what 'cease and desist' letters are for.

^Thanks, that explains the situation much more clearly. It strikes me that one role of the forums is to give a medium for fans to interact and discuss the games in real time. This probably could take many forms, and perhaps Reddit (or steam, etc) is generally fine for this. However, to me a second important role is having an archival body of knowledge about game mechanics and strategy that players can refer back to even years later. I'm not sure Reddit really satisfies this as well as old school user forums. But you have an insightful point, which is that there needs to be a business case for maintaining this archive.

Yes, forums are great as an archival resource. Of course you could also argue that sort of stuff might be better served to be in a wiki. Although... the thing missing with the wikis is the user-to-user communication, and while they do have that sort of thing for discussion when talking through edits/changes, it's not the same as a forum. I guess that's why a lot of subreddits also have a wiki that some people tend to maintain. I'm stuck in my old ways, I like a good forum.

It is somewhat ironic that the issues that resulted in the official forum being deleted were caused by switching from volunteer moderators (who historically had done a good job) to "professionals" brought in by a third party company (who did an atrocious job.)
It was kind of funny to see the old volunteer mods join the chorus of people blaming the BioBots in the forum's last days.
